I'm wondering about if there was some dispute between Paramount and Arnold Stang. In the Herman & Katnip cartoons "Robin Rodenthood", "A Bicep Built for Two", and "Mouse Trapeze", Herman has a slightly different voice, which sounds a little deeper, and has more of a Bronx accent. Oddly enough, "Rail-Rodents" is almost a no-dialogue cartoon, except for Herman's cousins song about going to Florida, and Katnip's one line: "Oh boy, a real diamond ring!" :p

Can anyone explain this? In "Mousieur Herman", Herman's voice is changed back to the old one. Did someone else provide the voice of Herman in those three cartoons, or did Stang just have a sore throat?

I'm guessing Stang just had a sore throat. In all the references I've seen, Herman's voice was still by Stang during that period.

Could it be that Stang went to Hollywood to act in THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN ARM? That probably explains his absence from those cartoons - but who was his replacement? I have no idea.

Maybe Stang himself would remember, since he is alive still, right?

Herman's voice is also diffent in the earliest of the Noveltoons -- 1943's "The Henpecked Rooster," 1944's "Scrappily Married" and 1945's "Cheese Burglar" even though Famous was already employing Stang to do the voices for Shorty in the Popeye series and Tubby in the Little Lulu series. Whoever did the voice of Herman on those cartoons may have been called back to handle the job during Stang's absence.
