The flashback into Balsa's childhood continues in this week's Moribito.

Last time on Moribito:

Winter arrives and the mountains become impassable. Balsa tells Chagum the story of her guardian, Jiguro, and how 24 years ago he defied the kingdom of Kanbal in order to protect her after her father is forced to poison the previous king. Jiguro is forced to kill two of his closest friends in order to protect Balsa, and 14 years ago the rest of his former comrades catch up to him to challenge him once and for all.

Expect another dramatic spearfight, and possibly further insight into Balsa's character. Winter will not last forever, and when spring comes . . .

Well . . .

Doom, basically.

Hope you all enjoy this one.

Previously on Moribito: We meet the Mr. Miyagi of the show and boy does he kick arse. Hopefully we'll get some sweet juicy vengeance against that jerkoff emperor this episode.

Whoa! Spear to the chest.

Dang, and that "Stay Back!" was friggin' scary.

Last time: Eerily familiar backstory part one.

"STAY BACK!"
Can't argue with an order like that.

I had a feeling those were the eight lives she was atoning for.

Hmm, I'm reminded of the old saying "He who saves one life saves the world entire."

Ah, so Emperor Loathsome (seriously, that's what it sounds like XD) is dead. He didn't get his arse beat, but at least he's dead.

I gotta say those final Balsa/Jigoro scenes were really touching.

Not only is she a hero, she's also a client!

There be Good Samaritan laws in these parts.

Zeniba wants to go to the hot springs, while Chagum wants to go down swinging.

And now it's time for Chagum to take up the spear so he may one too one day atone for the lives that were lost on his behalf. And the cycle continues.

Don't train too hard, Chagum. Baby on board, remember?

All right seriously, if Balsa and Tanda could just get 10 minutes alone together during this winter I'm sure they could find a new way to, uh, keep each other warm :D

Ooh, maybe this is it.

And maybe not.

Pop the question! Pop the question!

I think his water just broke.

Oh, guess not. Just his grasp on reality.

See, this is why water spirits don't reproduce in large numbers, due to the devastating symptoms that the mother goes through.

Ah, Shura. So tell me, does anything ever happen with this guy other than obscure symbolic speeches?

Well, th-th-th-that's all folks!

One guy dying of karoshi on this show is sad enough.

Now is the springtime of our discontent.

I'm actually glad nothing big happened between Balsa and Tanda, considering Chagum was still awake at that point. I can only imagine how uncomfortable he would become pretending to be sleeping...

As for Chagum suddenly screaming: thank you. Just when I thought it was safe to turn the volume up....

Good episode, though. We get the rest of Balsa backstory, Chagum wanting to train, and spring approaching with everyone freaking out about it. Especially Chagum.

Balsa's backstory went exactly as I thought, but it was still touchingly done. And with Chagum wanting to train, that was also touching. But with his screaming about stuff he sees in his mind, I can see that none of that physical training will doing any good. Guess things are going to start heating up soon, and I don't mean Torigai going to the hotspring.

The last two episode were really well done. I was thinking Balsa would have more blood on her hands. Overall one of the more dynamic and dramatic scenes of the series.
