I was looking for an encyclopedia of sorts that catalogs the merrie melodies/looney tune cartoons; one that talks about episodes, characters, directors, ect. I've heard of a book called "Merrie Melodies & Looney Tunes: A critcal Histroy of Warner Brothers Cartoons" by barry Putterman. Are there any others?

I think what you're looking for is Jerry Beck and Will Friedwald's "Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies: A Complete Illustrated Guide to the Warner Bros. Cartoons." The authors had access to the Warner Bros. archives, and it lists every cartoon with a complete synopsis (including most if not all of the gags) and credits. I was in the bookstore today and saw it on the shelf, so I'm fairly certain it's in-print.

However, there's very little editorial comment and virtually no history. Stefan Kanfer's "Serious Business" and Charles Solomon's "Enchanted Drawings" (newly in-print) both have lengthy, very interesting discussions of the Warner Bros. cartoons. I've also read Chuck Jones' "Chuck Amuck" which is not as straightforward but very anecdotal and amusing. I believe the definitive Warner Bros. history is Steve Schneider's coffee table book "That's All Folks," but I'm still trying to track it down myself (it's out-of-print), so I can't vouch for it.
