The Game suggested that the Batman Beyond Commissioner Gordon didn't belong in my Best Batgirl poll. I disagreed with him then, but now that I'm on to the Commish poll, I realize she was better suited to be here. However, since she was already on that poll, I'm not including her here.
Who is your favorite actor to play Commissioner Jim Gordon.
Lyle Talbot as Commissioner Jim Gordon in Batman and Robin (1949 cinematic serial)
Neil Hamilton as Commissioner James Gordon in Batman (1966 TV series)
Ted Knight as Commisioner Gordon in various Filmation animated versions including The Batman/Superman Hour (1968 animated series)
Lennie Weinrib as Comissioner Jim Gordon in The New Adventures of Batman (1977 animated series)
Pat Hingle as Commissioner Gordon in Batman (1989 feature film)
Batman Returns (1992 feature film) Batman Forever (1995 feature film) Batman & Robin (1997 feature film)
Bob Hastings as Commissioner James 'Jim' Gordon in Batman The Animated Series (1992 animated series) The Adventures of Batman & Robin (1994 animated series) The New Batman Adventeres (1997 animated series)
I completely forgot to post a Pick The Best 'Batman: The Animated Series' Episode - Poll discussion thread this week and it would be pointless to do one now, with less than 24 hours till it starts.

I really did like Pat Hingle from the movies (well except that last one  ), but I just had to vote for Bob Hastings. One of the great things about BTAS is how awesome his voice of Commissioner Gordon is. I don't have too much more to say other than Hastings always performed very well.

Unfortunately, I only know Hastings, Hamilton, and Hingle. Hamilton did the part he was given well, so I do like him, but I was raised on the modern, more serious Batman, so he didn't get a vote from me. For that same reason, I've always hated Hingle. He's old, wheezy, bumbling, and incompetent, and would be more compatible with the old 60's series than with today's Batman. Gotham is a tough town these days, and needs a tough, no-nonsense Commissioner just as much as it needs a tough, no-nonsense Batman. Bob Hastings always delivered that. His Jim Gordon is not an idiotic windbag stumbling along in Batman's wake. He's a tough, dedicated, fully competent soldier, fighting a war to save his city from corruption. He's a partner to Batman rather than a parasite, someone who has earned Batman's respect and friendship. And despite his tough-as-nails attitude at work, he's also a compassionate, loving father, another aspect in which Hingle was lacking (though only because he wasn't given the chance to try it). IMHO, Bob Hastings is James Gordon. Period.

I thought Hingle seemed pretty tough in Batman(1989)

I liked Pat Hingle's performance in Batman and Batman Returns. Bob Hastings is the best, but I felt I needed to give a shout out to Pat Hingle whose portrayal of Commisoner Gordon has kind of been degraded by Batman Forever and Batman & Robin.

Hastings, without question (or competition, for that matter !)
Has any other version of Gordon, other than the comics, even mattered ??
The "Movie" Gordon was unnecessary. They could have called him Chief Ohara !! Wouldn't have made any difference. That "Character" was not Gordon... not by a long shot.
The only non-comics version of Gordon that has been portrayed accurately in the B:TAS / TNBA Gordon, at least in my opinion... and Bob Hasting is PERFECT in that capacity. I could't imagine anyone else doing it.

Totally agree with Hingle = O'Hara equation. I like Mr. Hingle, he's really nice, I met him a while back, he was doing Our Town at my University Playhouse, but he's not Gordon because he's so nice. I've seen him as the nice guy in all these roles and I can't get him as tough as nails ex-Chicago Cop Gordon. I've seen him be psycho in movies before, and still nothing, it's like My Grandfather, but psycho.
Hastings voice is what I associated with Gordon because it has this soft gruffness to it. As much as I like continuaty in films and I hate recasting a character, I really wish they would recast Gordon in the next sequential Bat-flick.
Of course Year One comes out next, and I've run through a few guys but haven't come across the perfect person. I think Dale Dye Jr. (whom I've also meet, he was sans the Mustache and well into a case of Rolling Rock at the time....) has the LOOK way down, but not for a year one deal. I used to feel the LA Confidential trio for an earlier Year One-ish cast, Russell Crowe as Bruce, Guy Peace as Gordon and Kevin Spacey as Harvey Dent. Though I don't know if it fits well anymore.

Bob Hastings. The closest interpretation of the comics. Hingle was a little too removed from the comic version - I didn't feel there was any relationship with Batman.

Hastings, hands down. I hated Hingle as Gordon, the guy just didn't have it, you know?
