View Full Version : Something bothers me with Superman TAS. (Astronomy bugs may like this.)

Superman shoots off into space and discovers all of these weird planets and star systems. He is pretty much always able to use his powers. That begs the question what powers Superman. The answer the sun (in Earth's case our star is a class G2 yellow star.) However, Superman always goes to these other worlds. Are we to assume that all of these alien planets have yellow suns? I see this as kinda taking to much liberty, I mean okay we can assume that life can really only happen when we have stars like our own big Sol, but I personally don't think this is the case. When the Preserver mimicked Lobo's planet it had a blue sun, and that huge monster that fed on heat seemed to come from a planet in a binary system (both of the suns where not yellow, orange if I recall, and heck Krypton had a red star. So we've established that life exists in Supes universe besides in Earth like Star systems. So then how come, despite the incredible odds, he always lands in a yellow star system. Better yet how come he can use his powers way out in interstellar space, (against Lobo for instance.) does his spacesuit have artficial yellow sunlight?
Anyone?

That'd be my guess. (the suit having solar powering, that is). I wonder though if it has to do with how LONG he's in a given area. In both 'Main Man' and 'Legacy' his powers were seriously weakened due to the use of concentrated 'solar power', but when it comes to an actual sun, he's been exposed to Earth's for 30 years (give or take) so he's absorbed quite a bit of it into his cells. So, with that in mind, when he journeys to a different solar system he would be affected by the different star, but it would be a gradual decline. If he was to spend an extended time their he would surely notice a decline in his powers.

He's essentiallya big solar battery that's been recharging for about 25 years. I think that's why he can be away from our yellow sun for long periods of time. It only makes sense. He's been on earth since he was a kid, and he's probably been on "full" for quite sometime.

but if your guys theories are true, then how come red sunlight zaps away his power so quickly? Like a couple of hours or so.

Maybe it takes too much for him to keep up power when he's in a solar system with a red sun.

Sometimes I think it's like the deal with Kryptonite, even though the red sun thing has happened more than once. When Superman got his first dose of Kryptonite it hurt the most, and lasted the longest, but later on, the effect eventually goes away if the Kryptonite isn't near him.
Plus, just because he's a battery doesn't mean he's set for life. He can store some of his energy, but a large portion of it goes away when he's in an other world without a yellow sun. He'll still have some of it, but if he wants to be at full power, he needs his solar fix.
I think it's perfect because it weakens him just enough for the fights and story to be a bit more interesting, since he can't fight at full strength. :)
