Some things about it:

1. I have no access to HD channels, but will have standard def.

2. I have a TiVo.

3. I cannot decide between normal Blu Ray or PS3. My PS2 died a while back and now I have no way to play the games unless I take them to my boyfriend's house.

Any advice?

Get a PS3. It's a blu-ray and a good gaming system. Win-win.

You really should get HD cable or satellite to get the most out of it. SD looks very unimpressive on an HDTV. If you live near a city you can also get HD OTA (over the air) channels if you get an antenna. OTA HD is fantastic and it's free. Oh, and if you do have cable try just hooking your cable into the back of your TV, bypassing the boxes. On some cable systems you can get their HD channels that way.

You should get the PS3 because it's a great reasonably priced BluRay player with good features and easy updates, but unfortunately they've taken backwards compatibility out of it so you won't be able to play your PS2 games on it. You might be able to track down a 60 GB PS3, the original model, that does play PS2 games, but it'll be used and expensive. They might eventually add backward compatibility in through a software update, but don't count on it.
