I've been talking to a guy on the ASMB about potential expansions for Adult Swim should they get say... The Simpsons (which probably wont happen ever but it is possible).
With CN's PT ratings being notably bad and not looking better despite a few recent successes it seems likely that CN will consider the 9PM-10PM hour more worth Adult Swim's time. John over at the ASMB thinks they may as well take 7PM until 6AM but if they actually did that... what would be the point of evening sharing a channel with CN's demographic anymore? CN needs at least 7PM-9PM of prime time for their new show premieres and such. Having them in the 5 or 6 hour would be a death sentence.
However, the fact remains Adult Swim does very well with it's demographic and CN from 9PM-10PM struggles most days.
I'm not expecting Adult Swim to suddenly program their schedules with more variety with the extra time of course it'd likely be more of the same which I suppose does more than well enough.
So the question remains... does anyone think Adult Swim will take over 9PM-10PM daily as well? Or do you think they might go even further while CN's PT ratings are in dissaray?

Well any earlier expansion would no doubt be relegated to PG shows like King of the Hill so starting an hour earlier isn't going to be a concern in that regard.

I remember years ago when I had Direct TV and got AS on from the Eastcoast feed Watching eps of Big O Season 2 premiere at 8 PM in the Summer (still light out and for a noir show) it was truly a strange and great time.

Any chance they'll bring back the good, old school anime in a timeslot that people will actually watch?

I think Adult Swim has expanded to their limit--maybe even past it. They're really pushing their luck if they think they can get away with a 9PM time-slot without parents (or the BS&P) complaining.
Also, what good would another expansion be? Back in Adult Swim's earlier years, an expansion actually meant something--mainly, more slots for a flood of new programming. Nowadays, they just relegate any new hours to a single show instead of replacing any of the numerous reruns which take up the rest of the block. Any chances of the block having variety or dynamic programming are dashed out the window with each expansion.

You know, if Cartoon Network has to give up another hour to Adult Swim, it's time for Cartoon Network to step back, reevaluate itself, and get rid of the people that actually put the channel in that position and start over again. Seriously, if decreasing Cartoon Network programming by seven hours is an solution, then Cartoon Network has a huge problem. Something they really have to solve aside from handing over seven hours of programming.
And if that's the case, it'll be the end of Adult Swim. I believe that they would actually get rid of the Adult Swim branding if they expand to 9 PM and rebrand itself as CN Night or something. Of course if they rebranded Adult Swim as CN Night, there would be a bit of confusion for those who like to use initials rather than writing the whole name out.

I could actually see them doing that as an excuse to remove Williams Street's influence from the block. Let's face it, a lot of the moves they've done since Snyder took over from Semples have marginalized WS in a lot of ways.

Isn't Adult Swim its own channel though? Seperate from CN, the only tie they have is they share channel space and the same parent company owns them?
I doubt they will ever change Adult Swim's name. That would be like MTV changing their name.

This arguement again? As far as CN is concerned, Adult Swim is a block that can be lengthened or shortened to suit their ratings needs. It's also the most successful part of CN as a company. It gets it's own ratings in order to not dilute either CN's 2-14 or it's 18+ which is smart really but it like Nick at Night is not truely a seperate network, just counted as such for ratings purposes.
BUT
Let's not argue about this again it's been done to death.
Now Jeff has a very good point, if AS expands further it's truely time for CN to re-evaulate itself and get back to what it was good at.

Isn't Adult Swim its own channel though? Separate from CN, the only tie they have is they share channel space and the same parent company owns them? For Nielsen purposes, it is its own channel. However, it's still Cartoon Network. All trademarks of all Adult Swim original shows that they outright own are attributed to Cartoon Network, Inc., not Adult Swim. Adult Swim is its own network the same way that Nick @ Nite is its own network, not like how TBS is its own network or TNT is its own network. It's a block that evolved into a network clearly for ratings and advertising purposes, which is why Adult Swim can air ads for nearly everything except beer.
I doubt they will ever change Adult Swim's name. That would be like MTV changing their name. Not really. It'd more or less would be like the recent renaming of Teletoon's Adult Swim-like block The Detour, which is now Teletoon at Night. It begins at 9 PM EST.

I never watch Cartoon Network (except for the occasional Tom & Jerry episode), so I wouldn't oppose an expansion of Adult Swim's hours. I would like to watch Family Guy at 9PM when nothing else is on. I usually don't stay up later than 10:30 or 11, since I really can't operate on less than eight hours of sleep. I've been staying up until midnight most of the time since school's started, and I've been falling asleep in Earth Science every day. Something tells me I should go to sleep earlier . . . yet . . . something else tells me I would fall asleep regardless. :p
Content schmontent. If Nickelodeon can get away with airing a TV-14 rated episode of Malcolm in the Middle at 8PM, then Cartoon Network should be able to get away with airing Family Guy at 9PM. Cartoon Network's audience is generally older than other kids' networks, right? Plus, Family Guy on Adult Swim sometimes shows up on the top ten most-watched shows with kids 12-17 - something that Cartoon Network almost never achieves.

I don't know if this will ever actually happen, but I have to agree that if it ever gets to the point where [adult swim] starts airing at 9 PM, then the folks at Cartoon Network would seriously need to step back and re-evaluate things.
Any chance they'll bring back the good, old school anime in a timeslot that people will actually watch?
Unlikely. CN doesn't seem all that enthused about airing anime right now, least of all old school anime. If a huge, guaranteed money-making property suddenly comes down the pike from Japan, then sure, but otherwise I doubt it.

I remember Trigun and Inuyasha coming on around 6pm on Dish network.
