Thanks to Wounded_Dragon for making me aware of this. I can't believe a new one is coming so soon, especially considering Halloween II is suffering.

Current rumour is that the Weinstein's are trying to get Steve Miner in the director's chair. Miner previously directed what was generally considered to be the best 3-D horror film until this year, with Friday the 13th 3-D. He also directed Halloween H20. Hopefully this goes through because he's a really good choice for it.

Oh, yikes. Steve Miner? Not sure about that. Halloween H20 was awful, though lately I've been thinking that might have been because of studio pressure to make it more of a Scream knock-off, so Miner was just doing what he was told. Maybe things would be different now, but who knows? It's not exactly like I'm expecting anything good after the two-film set-up Rob Zombie has given us.

SOunds good. I know a lot of people liked H20, (sorry Michael24) THis could turn out okay.

I have no idea why they're doing this. Whatever you think about what Rob Zombie's done with Halloween, they're better than all the other terrible horror remakes that have been coming out the last few years. The only one I have any interest in is Nightmare on Elm Street.

Haha, I thought this was a joke when it was brought up in the H2 talkback.
When they say "different take", do they mean different from these two remakes or from both sets of movies? I wonder if it will even be in the continuity of either the originals or Zombie's takes.
And 3-D? I'm sure it's not some rash decision because of being beat in opening weekend by a lame 3-D teen horror flick. But whatever. Good or bad, I've seen every one of them, and this one will be no different. Except for the glasses.

This just in: Dimension Films is dying. (http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/33366/dimension-dying-a-slow-death-chaos-studio) What does this mean for Halloween 3-D?

Sorry for the double post, but it's needed. The director of "My Bloody Valentine 3-D" is in talks to write and direct H3-D.

Well there goes this franchise. I've never seen Bloody Valentine 3D but it was completely useless back in January. It was just another remake that everyone would've passed up had it been not for the 3D gimmick which I had said before, is being bruised and abused by all of the films using it this year. Even Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is using the 3D schtick to get families to sit through another 90-minute hodgepodge of a 30 page book.

We have a director.
Patrick Lussier.

And what's wrong with that? A lot of people really enjoyed the MBV remake, a lot more than most of the other remakes that have come out. Plus if they want to make it in 3-D, then who cares? 3-D is a pretty fun way to watch the movies so there is nothing wrong with it.

I'm among those people, the money I spent on the 3D version of My Bloody Valentine was well spent, since they DID take advantage of of the 3D and I'm sure Lussier will make a godarmn fine Haloween movie with Michael Myers back to the basics as the Shape we all know and love
After all, one could consider Rob Zombie's Haloween continuity finished with H2, considering how it ended and all

I don't know anyone who did. Even a friend of mine who normally loves just about anything horror-related thought it was crap. The ads did nothing to excite me personally, but then again I didn't care for what I saw of the original one, either.

I thought MBV was one of those movies that if you went in expecting goofy fun, kind of on the level of Freddy vs Jason, you walked out happy. I haven't seen it myself as I thought it looked like another mediocre horror movie/remake.
Jason X was just pure, unadulterated crap.

Not really missing anything. They deserve to be in those low-priced bins found in Wal-Mart where they belong.

Those movies don't really pretend to be anything else than pure entrainment, I mean, Jason X has the highest body count of any Friday the 13th movie ever and while My Bloody Valentine might not have set the world on fire it was genuinely fun and took advantage of it's 3D format, if you can't understand that then stick with whatever you watch :ack:

I thought the whole reason Zombie's Halloween movies didn't get released in October was because they didn't wanna get slaughtered by the Saw juggernaut. And you just know there will be a new one next year too.

I know. It should at least be released in late September.

Pre-production has been put on hold. (http://current.com/1vude4c)
Bob Weinstein cited the project as being rushed, so instead of the projected 2010 release, it's currently frozen.

I pretty much saw that one coming. Just seemed way too quick.
Heck, Halloween 5 rolled right into production and was released just one year after Halloween 4, and many fans hated that one, with even Moustapha Akkad later admitting they should have took their time and waited another year before starting up again.

I know it's just wishful thinking, but I think they should go back to the ORIGINAL franchise. I mean, yeah, Meyers killed Laurie in the last movie, but there's her son that's still out there. It shouldn't be too hard to get Josh Hartnett (or a new actor) to carry on family legacy of taking Michael down.
Either that, or use III to do 'Season of the Witch'.

Already a thread. (http://www.toonzone.net/forums/showthread.php?t=235158) Sorry. For my thoughts, I don't think it's a good idea. First off, I HATED H2. I had started a thread for it, which made it even more of a disappointment. I don't like the idea of bringing Michael Myers back, at least not as a sequel: that continuity has been cannibalized. Going back to the original series is a bad idea to. Are we forgetting how bad Halloween: Resurrection was? That series does not need to be continued. Besides, the average moviegoer would be confused as to why it doesn't fit into Zombie's movies. Internet hype readers like us would be aware of this continuity, but most people wouldn't know. And I can't see a trailer declaring itself part of the old continuity, that would be pretty awkward. The only way I could see bringing Michael back would be in another remake/reboot. But, even that probably wouldn't work. There does not need to be a new series, at least not so soon. It would have to be another ten years or so before rebooting Halloween could even be considered, but under the eyes of respectful writing and directing who can make a decent movie that is unique but stays true to the spirit of the original.

Even a couple years ago, they were saying the third film would be Halloween 3D.
Frankly, while I didn't see Rob Zombie's sequel, I absolutely hated his remake and thought it was just a dreadful, dreadful movie. I know Dimension will never continue the original line of movies, but I would prefer that more, even if I didn't like H20 or Homecoming.

So I guess the producers have zero intention of making back their money in theaters unless this movie is dirt cheap, cause they only have 5 days to make a hit. Come November 1, no one will care about this movie.
Tobias

It depends on how well received it is. Horror movies have survived after opening on Halloween weekend before. Heck, some horror movies have opened in November and did fairly well.

Plus, I think all the early Halloween films opened in mid- to late-October. (H20 was the first to get a summer release, which makes no sense to me.) Heck, Halloween 4 opened on October 21 and was the #1 movie for two weeks.
In any event, I'm still not excited for this movie, even if it does look to be ignoring the two garbage dumps that Rob Zombie made, which just makes it the lesser of two evils. For me, the franchise ended at The Curse of Michael Myers.

Outside of Killing off Jamie Lee Curtis at the beginning I had no problems with Homecoming, so I really wish they'd write these last two movies off as a 'bad dream' and just go back to the original franchise with Laurie's son taking over as the film's hero.

The only think I liked about Homecoming was that it had the best Myers House since the original one, and that Brad Loree was a definite improvement over Chris Durand as The Shape. Otherwise, I thought it was pretty bad. It didn't help that Busta Rhymes(!) was the star. Ugh.
