Well he's basically a being of destruction that was stopped by superman(resulting in his death, like most comic book characters, he came back.)
That comes directly from DC Comics, and it said Doomsday was imprisoned on the Moon. Something happened imbetween here, I remember seeing a fake Doomsday made my Mxy-whatever (Ill never get that name) not too long ago, actually I think back in Electro Supes days, and that was defeated and I thought vanished the way Mxy made him appear, but maybe thats the one. From the sounds of things, this is the real deal though.....man, this stuck on the moon thing just makes me think of one of the christopher reeve movies for some reason, the cover even looks like a movie poster. I dunno, Im psyched, thats why i put it up there.

I think the JLA helped Superman put Doomsday into a series of transporters that kept him constantly teleporting, never materializing more than 25%. And only Superman had the code that could free him from the transporters. I believe that this happened on the moon, although something might have happened to Doomsday after this...I'm sure one of you will feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.:D

There was another miniseries AFTER "Hunter/Prey," called "Superman: The Doomsday Wars." Yes, Doomsday was stranded at the end of time by Waverider at the end of "Hunter/Prey".... in "Doomsday Wars," Brainiac travels to the end of time and plucks Doomsday away, and takes telepathic control over him, so now Doomsday has Brainiac's smarts.
I don't think Doomsday still had Brainiac's intelligence by the end of the story, though... I am not sure about that point. But Doomsday is indeed trapped on the moon, they sent him in some kind of sequence in the transporter pods, that would constantly be bouncing him from one to the next so fast that he was never fully "reassembled" in one spot, so he couldn't break free.
And the fake Doomsday that Mxy created was "BadaBingBadaBoomsday," in Man of Steel #75. I don't think he's coming back any time soon ;)
