I was wondering if it is better to draw directly from a tablet or to scan your artwork into the computer and color it with photoshop. I was wondering if anyone here does either one. I am trying to decide whether to draw from the tablet or to scan penciled work. Need advice?

Most of work these days is 98% with a tablet. My pencil skills probably are a tad rusty. As for advice, a tablet does take some time to get used to as you are forced to watch the screen and not your hand as you draw, so do what feels most comfortable to you.

I use a tablet. For animation, I find it much faster and easier, since you don't have to scan all the drawings in. Doing it in Flash also means you can use the onion skin features, which are easier (for me) than flipping the pages.

I don't freehand draw very well using a tablet. I only use it for inking and coloring. I still use pencil and paper for the original artwork. More and more I'm discovering that I don't really enjoy tablet art as much as traditional art. I feel the interface is mistranslating the strokes. Like Bic says, it depends on the particular artist's preference and way of doing things.

I was fortunate--thanks to the Video Painter, VTech's greatest invention, I was trained in the art of lap drawing from childhood. As soon as I got a tablet, I never went back to paper again except during power failures.

Thanx people, I am actually getting the hang of using a tablet. I could do my first tablet drawing soon. As you said, it's a little difficult if you are used to using paper. I have already learned some of the basic functions of photoshop like lighting and shadows.

The only times I would use a tablet for drawing is when I don't have a scanner available. I use it mostly for coloring on the computer.

And as CaptainPunJab said, it's great for animation as it saves time scanning drawings in.
