Having only seen bits and pieces of this show, I need to ask you all what you thought of it. What was it like? How does it rate? Was Dr. Doom done well (as compared to the crappy movies)?

I liked the show. It had its highs and lows and I think it took a little while before they finally chose on the tone of the show. I liked the character designs, the voice acting, animation and effects, and the comedy was good.

On the negative side, the action was for the most part under par. Only the episode with the Hulk had some nice action beats. And I think they should've tried harder with balancing the serious with the goofy. After awhile they just stopped trying and they just went all comedy. One time it really irritated me was with the episode with Terminus.

As for Doctor Doom...sad to say he wasn't very good here. I think he had a good design and a good voice actor. But too many times he came off as not much of a threat and just pointless. He was just kind of there.

Overall though I liked the show. I would give it a 6.5 to 7 out of 10 overall. I wish I could find the series DVD somewhere.

That's what I would like to know too. I've been meaning to start this thread for awhile.

I, for one, enjoyed Fantastic Four:WGH. It was my personal favorite of the various FF series we've gotten over the years.

It didn't take itself too seriously, which I felt was a plus, as I'm weary of dark, brooding, angry and tortured hero shows, the characters had actual personalities; they were each flawed and quirky, unlike the cardboard cutout characters on previous FF shows (I know a lot of people hated this show's version of Johnny Storm, but I personally thought he was a hoot. I'll gladly take him over the bland pretty boy Johnny that we got in the Marvel Action Hour version).

My only real complaint about the show was the team's costumes: the white suits with the blue shoulder pads and that black '4' set inside an orange circle; they made the team look like human pospicles. Many, many people have remarked on Ben Grimm having a '4' spray-painted on his bare chest, so there's no need for me to go into that.

I enjoy it a lot. Initially Johnny turned me off to the show, not do to his goofiness and wisecracks (I always liked a funny Torch) but he was just such a wuss and I wasn't really feeling the voice. Eventually that became a minor complaint after I gave the show a chance. I thought that this was a pretty good look for the FF. This show definitely had my favorite Sue and I'll take this Doom over movie Doom anyday. I thought all of the guest appearances were well done and it was awesome to see Squirrel Girl and Flatman make it past the comic pages. It was pretty odd to see all of the romantic relationships downplayed so much but I could live with it. After getting used to it, I had no problems with the comedic angle. They were able to stay away from the melodrama that kind of dragged the otherwise brilliant 1995 season (If I have to hear Johnny groan over missing Crystal one more time, I'm hurting somebody).

After the raw deal the show got from CN, I can only imagine what an eventual Sliver Surfer or Galactus crossover might have been like.

Dr. Doom, while coming across as a generic, recurring villain, is still leaps and bound much better than he was in that movie abomination. He's more akin to the comics.

Man, it really pisses me off that Doctor Doom -- the quintessential regal villain/monarch/overlord -- the forerunner of Magneto, Zod, and Darth Vader -- can't get represented in a decent, respectable depiction (updated or otherwise) in any form of medium beyond comics.

There was an ep when he was stuck in the Negative Zone where the cowardly act was a bit overboard I thought all of the guest appearances were well done and it was awesome to see Squirrel Girl and Flatman make it past the comic pages.Which ep was this? Did they have speaking roles?

To the OP - The show is actually fun. Nice designs, great humor (the show's strong point) and a few revamped classic stories. Only negatives that come to mind are:
1) Horrible fight scenes. I don't think we ever saw a punch connect in the entire series.
2) Galactus and Silver Surfer storylines were omitted because of the movie.

Which ep was this? Did they have speaking roles? That was The Cure, the episode where She Hulk joins the team after they hold auditions for a Thing replacement. Flatman got about 2 sentences out. Squirrel Girl wasn't so lucky.

I loved this show - if you accept it for what it is, a superhero comedy, not an action show then I think you'd like it too.

The DVD set is very much worth a look - I think it was too hard for American audiences to appreciate it too much because of CN utterly abysmal airing of the show (inconsistant schedule, wrong order, full screen).

Dr. Doom pretty much sucked but the remaining villains were pretty good - you get more of a sense of the storyline watching them in the correct order. The chemistry between the team is what makes the show - I wasn't sure how Reed would work as a comedy character but he pulls it off perfectly. Special mention must go to Johnny Storm - arguably the funniest character Marvel's ever animated.

Highly recommended here mate.

Not to mention the show actually got a good DVD release, with all 26 episodes and in-depth bonus material and stuff.

I dint like it, Doctor Doom was lame and the fights/action wasnt really very good. And Human Torch was always trying to be funny (and he wasnt funny at all, just annoying).

I liked the show, but Torch got to be annoying after awhile. The stories weren't always the best written either, but overall great designs and a pretty decent show.

I got the box set from Best Buy awhile ago, but some stores still have it.

The problem with Doom is that...well, his origin sucks. His whole thing is that he blames Reed for some accident Reed had little to nothing to do with and as such he's going to kill Reed and everyone he loves. It just doesn't work that well.

Are you talking about Doom in the show, or Doom in general.

I'm talking about shows that try to retell the old 60s stories in present day. Basically Doom shows up and we get this backstory told to us either by him or Reed over how they knew each other in College, there was some accident Doom blamed Reed for even though he was innocent and now Doom wants him dead.

Doom in general, well for the last few decades they stopped with the "revenge on Reed" thing and focused more on him being King of Latveria who is out to rule the world one way or another and made him a Greater MU villain.

I bought the boxset when it came out and it was actually quite good. Johnny did get annoying at times but other than that it was very e joyable
