"Jerky Turkey" (MGM)
One of my favorite Tex Avery shorts of all time...but the edit is a desecration and so painfully obvious. The pilgrim sounds a lot like Droopy (it may have been Avery himself as the voice, I'm not sure) and the turkey is Jimmy Durante, voice, big beak, and all. My favorite bit is the music played as the bear enters. Does it have a name, perchance? Dubbed.

"Let's Get Movin'" (Popeye)
The weirdest thing about this one is that when Popeye or Olive sang, the words weren't touched--I suppose it's hard to translate English rhymes into coherent Spanish ones--so it gives a really weird contrast to the dubbed dialogue. Popeye's dub sounds okay, if a bit mumbley, but Olive's is really high and whiney. Not the worst ones I've heard, though. Fav scene--Popeye and Bluto fighting inside the stove.

"The Hungry Wolf" (MGM)
This wolf reminded me of the one in the short the other night about the sheep-guarding ram...but this fellow fared better. Though starving to death, he can't bring himself to eat a rabbit who shows him kindness and kicks him out rudely...but feels bad about it and rescues him from the cold. Subsequently he's rewarded with a hot meal and companionship. Dubbed except for "For He's A Jolly Good Fellow" at the end. Fav scene--the wolf mistakes a rolling pin for corn-on-the-cob, and we're treated to a wicked close-up of his splinter-filled tongue.

"Fagin's Freshman"
Undubbed. Naughty kitten has a nightmare about falling in with a bad crowd. DYN Fagin looked a lot like Disney's Pegleg Pete? Watch for the incompetent cop with the pop gun and the bit where Fagin orders the cops to stop shooting so he can hear during a phone call.

"Wee Willie Wildcat" (MGM, Barney Bear)
Dubbed. The first words of dialogue I heard were, "Ay, demonios...!" ("D*** it...!"), which made me howl with laughter. But the next few lines were rapid and garbled, so I didn't catch what the poppa wildcat was so mad at his boy fo. Barney stops him from spanking the boy and instead uses psicologia de los ninos (child psychology), which repeatedly backfires. In the end it's Junior who gets the most use out of Barney's textbook. Watch for the author's name on the jacket--"Helen Highwater". Fav scene: Barney unwittingly kicks a rock inside of a football skin and shatters every bone in his body.

"Dog Tired"
Another short with the duo of Spaniel and Boxer, as I've come to call them. How many shorts were made with these two, and were they all Jones-directed? Watch for the scene with the lovebirds. Undubbed.

I think that the music is from the Grande Canyon Suite by Grofe. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Yep, all are Jones cartoons. The pups are sort of officially known as the "Two Curious Puppies," but you can call them whatever you want. They were in....

Dog Gone Modern
Prest-o Change-o
Curious Puppy
Stage Fright
Snow Time For Comedy
Dog Tired (This one is most likely my favorite of the bunch)

I think that is all, but there may be some more, I wrote them all down someplace...

Also, what all was edited from Jerky Turkey? I think there was a "half breed" gag, but were the battleships in the beginning cut? That's a favorite of mine too!

Let's see now...it has been a while since I've seen this one, esp. uncut. The turkey dives behind a bush or a rock, and the Pilgrim shoots at what he thinks is its tailfeathers, but it turns out to be an Indian headdress on a very angry Indian, who I believes pops him one. Then the Indian then turns to see a "half-breed"--that is, the left half of him is a brave in buckskins, and his right side is a white man in a business suit. They did leave in the scene with the more modern ships around the Mayflower, though--aircraft carriers and such. "Don't eat at Joe's."

The thing I never understood about "Fagin's Freshman" was its abrupt ending. They get to the first 2 or 3 gags, finally, then stop. This is a cartoon where 2 or 3 extra minutes could've really made a difference.

There was another edit as well to JERKY TURKEY that nobody ever seems to mention. There's a part where the pilgrim tries to shoot the turkey, but accidentally points the gun towards his head and blasts his own head off. He then opens up his coat, and his head peeks out of there. This is prior to the half-breed scene.
