That plot sounds.......interesting.
I haven't watched South Park in a while, and I think a fresh episode will be good to wet my tastes. :)

Watchmen parody? Or Dark Knight (w/ Cartman's throaty voice)?

To tease us some more.
I hope Mysterion makes a reappearance.
This season really has my hopes up. Both this and "The Ring" are hilarious, whereas last season started out fairly average and just stayed that way... I really hope this continues from here on out, because I haven't laughed this hard with South Park in ages.
A+ For The Coon
A For The Ring
Also maybe this season there's a theme in titles... too early to tell.

If we were going by continuity, Kenny shouldn't have been in this episode since he died of Syphilis last week.

Ha ha.
In my experience if you don't think the premise of a South Park episode is funny then the entire entire show ceases to be funny. Even a weak episode of Family Guy will include several fall-on-the-floor funny jokes.
Luckily, I did think tonight's South Park was pretty funny. It wasn't fantastic but it was clever and reasonably entertaining. Season 13 is off to a mcuh better start than season 12, that's for sure.

I just KNEW that the SP creators would screw with us in the big reveal in the end. I just didn't know how.
I liked the scene at the convention, where the hotel staff remembered Cartman from the Ginger rally and the AIDS benefit concert.
I was dumbfounded over the scene with Mysterio and Kyle, though. Really, the only reason it was there was just to show that Kyle was not the masked hero.

Mysterion was Clyde. The classroom scene where Cartman is giving his report on the Coon, and he tells Clyde to wake up? Clyde was sleeping due to...that's right! Being out all night as Mysterion.
Thought that was pretty obvious...

Yeah, Clyde seems to be the most logical answer. I was hoping for it to be Kenny though.
The reality of it all is probably Matt and Trey knew all along they were gonna use that cop-out ending and actually didn't even come up with anyone in particular.

I was really hoping that this episode would have a great Watchman Spoof in it. With the idea of a superhero appearing in town and all and Watchmen just appearing. So I am glad for the opening. But I also like how this one had a lot of The Dark Knight as well. With Coon and Mysterion appearing in the police station, the whole blow up the hospital plan, and the entire ending as well. So yeah this was defintley a mix of the two greatest super hero movies as of late. But it was more then that. There were a lot of dramatic camera angles but at heart this was just another great Boys/Cartman focus episode. Aftearll knowing Cartman's ego it'd make sense that he would try and create his own alter ego and cash in off it and obviously being Cartman fail at it when his biggest success in supposedly stopping a rape that was just a couple kissing. I also like how really he had no reason for being the Coon as things are actually more decent are despite his supposed narration. I also liked him calling out Mysterion who had one of the funniest Batman/Rosarack scratchy voice parodies I've heard. Funny stuff with them conversing and Cartman being distracted with a fireworker. And of course there was also great stuff with continuity as well: the airport hilton stuff, Cartman pointing out Fireworks are illegal (from "Summer Sucks") and of course a great appearence of Professor Chaos and General Disaray since hey every good superhero spoof needs a good villian. There was just a lot of funny lines in general: Cartman's appearences in the station, the hilton guy saying that Cartman is kind of a d-bag, the guys reaction to Cartman saying f*g is an insensitve thing to say, Cartman questioning the boys, Coon punching Disaray, everyone thinking Mysterion was dead when he was knocked out and a pretty clever twist on how everyone knows who Mysterion is just by lifting his mask which is a good gag on how pretty much all the boys minus Cartman look alike based on body type yet are really only identifable by voice and attire. But change that and who knows who it is. I also liked the Coon ending as well. I'd say about as solid as the last ep. Could of used a bit more Watchmen mocking IMHO but otherwise excellent stuff.

Eh, the episode seemed really average. At least they didn't lift the plot directly from either movie. There was a nice balance between Watchmen narrative and The Dark Knight allusions.
Figures Mysterion wouldn't be unmasked. I admit I chuckled a bit when he simply removed his masked and everyone seemed shocked. I don't really care if he ever gets revealed though, since he's most likely a one shot guy.

This isn't an argument you want to get into, no matter how polite you stay. DG could probably out-argue Matt & Trey on this point.;)
I thought it was funny...Cartman as "The Coon" was funny, plus, any episode that has Butters as "Professor Chaos" and his friend as "General Disarray" is awesome in my book....Also,loved Mysterion's "reveal" at the end (I figured they'd just cut away, but it makes sense, considering most of the kids are identical when you just see their faces)....

Usually when I see South Park, there is usually a few miss moments.
This one almost didn't have any of those moments, and this was really a great episode..
Am I the only one that felt that wasn't screwed from the ending? Of course it would be impossible to have a recurring or main character be Mysterion, so a random kid being Mysterion seems like a good idea.
However, this leaves a plothole; why did Mysterion go to Kyle's house?
Anyways, my only problem is that the script was too loose. They don't think of any creative insults or stuff like that, just "hey, let's just call them f-heads or anything that seriously offends people", I know it's South Park, but it's just not well-written sometimes.

South Park made fun of the Watchmen, hopefully this season South Park could make fun of Land of the Lost (the upcoming motion picture based on the 1970's Sid and Marty Krofft kid show) as Cartman, Stan, Kyle, Butters, and Kenny go into a IMAGIONATIONLAND style prehistoric world.

I think you guys are missing the point of the scene with Kyle and Mysterion. Right before that scene Cartman said something to the effect of "I know Mysterion is sitting, plotting his next move", then we go to Kyle sitting there thinking, looking like hes plotting something. That right there makes you think its Kyle. Then Mysterion shows up and we realize its not Kyle.
Does anyone understand the Kyle/Mysterion scene, now?

03-22-2009, 03:49 PM
Not necessarily-- it's entirely possible that, like Cartman, Butters simply assumed incorrectly that Mysterion couldn't be a girl. (Unless someone in the "unmasking" scene at the end specifically referred to Mysterion with a male pronoun-- I'd have to watch it again, I don't recall.)
I think we can assume it's not Wendy, though, because Wendy wouldn't have had to go to Kyle for help; she's plenty smart on her own.

Too true, which is exactly what makes pointless speculation about it so fun, since none of us will ever be definitively proven wrong! (-:

The episode took off once Mysterion appeared. Before it was just another Cartman scam episode. It actually reminded me of the ATHF ep, "The Drizzle". But Mysterion turned out to be a great character; he looked out for real crime and he could do the cool superhero bit down pat.
I thought the ending was well played. Mysterion did reveal his face, in a clever satire about how SP faces all look alike. Let's see, Mr. Garrison said he was one of his students, Cartman said he called him out before, and it's obviously not Timmy, Jimmy, or Token. That previous scene indicated that he's not Kyle (though what if they switched costumes after that scene?...) I'm guessing that it's Clyde, followed by Kenny, followed by Stan, and just maybe Wendy.
So why didn't they demand the Coon unmask as well?
I still think it's Kenny. He probably made up this alter ego just so he wouldn't be just a prop. And he died and then came back to life in one scene. Only Kenny could have done that. I rule out Clyde because the scene where he's sleeping in class came before Mysterion's first appearance.

Is that kid in their class? At most elementary schools kids interact with kids in other grades. Anyway, I still think it's Clyde, as Mysterion's voice sounds almost exactly like Clyde's. I really don't think it was Kenny, Stan, or Wendy simply because Mysterion's voice didn't sound like any of them.
