I've personally felt that modern NFL Films have lost the true heart, grit, and passion of the game amidst the spectacle and fireworks. Watching old Super Bowl highlight films and enjoying the x/o's and hearing the unique figurative language ("The Autumn Wind is a pirate...") is a thrill, and today's programming lacks that classic heart. Just my opinion...
Until America's Game. I love the program. I love how candid, at least within tasteful limits, players and coaches are with their interviews and I feel each episode does a nice job of capturing the heart of a championship team. Each of the 42 NFL champions has a segment, and normally alongside the narrator, 3-4 players (typically 3) or coaches are interviewed to overview the story of the season. Recently, America's Game: The Missing Rings aired on NFL Network, showcasing the stories of teams who came tantalizingly close to winning a title, only to finish so agonizingly close, yet short. Sometimes I feel the interviewees could be more tastefully chosen, i.e. I'd have love to have heard Joe Montana in any of his four championship sets, but there are certainly so many factors in choosing, most importantly personal availability and the classic motivator: $.
So, a panel of experts ranked the teams in terms of the 20 best Super Bowl champions ever. Here was their cumulative ranking:
SUPER BOWL CHAMPION TOP 20 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America%27s_Game)
So, two questions in the poll:
On a 1 to 5 scale (1, do not enjoy 3, enjoy as much as any average show 5, enjoy immensely), how much do you enjoy the show?
Also, do you agree with the rankings? Why or why not?
The Steelers recent championship in Super Bowl XLIII will likely be produced into an episode of the series. Who would you interview, keeping in mind that they normally want to represent multiple sides of the ball (defense, offense, coaching) and the season itself? I'd go with:
-James Farrior (or Dick Labeau if Tomlin doesn't interview)
-Ben Roethlisberger (or Santonio Holmes)
-Mike Tomlin
-(if there is a rare 4th interview) Hines Ward
