Some awesome news from www.comingsoon.net/http://www.alienexperience.com/Total FILM UK :

Sigourney Weaver really, really wants Alien 5 to happen. Total Film learned that the 52-year-old star of the megabucks sci-fi series approached Ridley Scott last year with an eye to "do another one". And Scott has let one "earth-shattering" (his words) piece of news escape: "Well, James Cameron is involved in it now."

What role Cameron will actually take in the new adventures of Ellen Ripley is undetermined (will he write, produce...direct!?), but Big Jim is definitely interested and the prospect of the Aliens director collaberating with origional helmer Scott will make fans drool as much as the alien creatures themselves. It seems the Titanic director was also approached by Weaver, who is either desperate to revisit the character of Ripley in order to fulfill her artistic needs...or fancies pocketing an expected $20 million for another outing.

As for Scott's involvment, the dour Geordie is still weighing his options. After nabbing an Oscar-nom for Black Hawk Down he's Mr. Popular, and both pirate swashbuckler Captain Kidd and historical epic Alexander The Great are battling for his attention. Be he is giving Alien 5 serious consideration, possibly in a story that visits the home planet of the grisly monstoids from his 1979 masterpiece. The less-favored option is to continue from where Alien: Resurrection left off (Aliens reaching Earth).

Whatever happens, if Ripley does return Weaver has insisted it will be her final installment. To which we proffer one reasoned response: chinny reckon.

I know Scott has been confirmed for Tripoli, but this is still definitley interesting.

Comments? This could turn out very cool...

HOLY CRAP! I've been following the Alien 5/Scott/Weaver story for quite a while now. Cinescape posted a story a couple of weeks ago that Scott had decided to pass on Alien 5 in favor of doing a movie based on The Crusades.

This is the first I've heard of James Cameron involved in Alien 5. Aliens is one of my all time favorite movies and Cameron himself is one of my favorite directors (excluding Titanic). The Alien series itself is my all time favorite movie series. I've been wondering what movie he is going to do next. I know he's involved right now with some IMAX thing and Titanic again. He's been going back to visit the Titanic and filming. God, I hope we hear more about this soon!

Sounds good. Lets just hope the flic's more like the first 2, not the latest 2. While the aliens are cooler than ever, the mediocrity of Alien 3 and Resurrection is hard to beat :(

I'm not entirely sure what can be explored in another Aliens film - the shock is beginning to wear off.

I think the Earth scenerio is the logical choice - this is what Ripley has been fighting to prevent throughout the movies. IF 5 was the last, a final reckoning on Earth would make sense - plus having the Aliens on our homeground might give the film added chill factor - but this would HAVE to be it!!!

I don't know whether to be happy or irritated. They've done almost everything you can do with aliens vs humans confrontations. Having them invade Earth is interesting, but I'd rather see an Aliens vs Predator movie. Like that'll happen.
