Man, big drop for Friday the 13th. :( Hope I can catch it this week.

Really glad to see Taken is holding in there near the top. Word of mouth must be taking affect. I've said it before, but I really enjoyed it and thought it was a nice little action flick.

I'm not too happy about Madea taking the top spot since I hate those films but I'm certainly glad Taken is still going strong. That movie was awesome.

The film was alright but I wouldn't call it the best that we've seen this year. We still have other contenders like Disney*Pixar's Up and Sony's Planet 51.

Remember, this is the last week it's being shown in 3D, which has been a lot of this business.

Not that there'd be anything bad about seeing it in 2D. The 3D effects are really stunning for about 20% of the film but much of it doesn't look very different from a regular 2D projection.

Ah Madea, my favorite minstrel show.

jk jk (uh...maybe?). I really do hate those movies, though. I can't completely hate Tyler Perry, though...he's pretty much the only person giving black actors and actresses in Hollywood jobs.

Eh I don't expect to see Street Fighter do exceptionally well next weekend. It hasn't received much publicity and the trailers make it look like a glorified DTV production.

Eh... from the trailers for Up that I've seen, I'm not really looking forward to it. It looks a bit funny, but there's just something that... I don't know, turns me off.

As for Planet 51, I've never heard of it actually. There's sadly not another single movie coming out this year that I want to see.

Which is why the 3D was brilliant. My opinion on it resembles Wil Wheaton's, in that 3D is often times just a stupid gimmick. Most 3D productions make the thing just jump out at you, which is something I don't like. But with Coraline (and The Nightmare Before Christmas as well), the 3D is much more subtle, and is beautiful when it needs to be.

Diehard fans will see it for sure, especially since SFIV just came out last week. But other than that...yeah, can't see it doing too well.

It doesn't really look that interesting, though, in any case. At least the Tekken movie looks laughably bad.

I'm very happy to see how well Coraline is doing. I'm still not overly thrilled with the movie itself, but this is a good thing for traditional animation as a whole.

Besides...it's gonna get beat by Jonas Bros.
Oh wow, yeah. It has no chance. But I guess it wouldn't capture much of the Jonas crowd anyway.

While it's possible the Jonas Bros. will be #1 next weekend, I don't think it'll do the business the Hannah Concert Movie did. That just came out of nowhere in limited release and just grew from there. I think Disney's going all out with the Jonas Bros. Concert movie, thinking it'll do twice the business, but the truth is they just don't have the popularity Hannah does.

As for Planet 51, I've never heard of it actually. There's sadly not another single movie coming out this year that I want to see.

James Cameron's Avatar (not the M Night movie), Inglorious Basterds, Ponyo on a Cliff by the Sea, Watchmen, Where the Wild Things Are, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, 9 (the animated sci-fi movie), Nine (the Daniel Day Lewis musical), and The Lovely Bones don't appeal to you?

I'm not talking about things jumping out at you. The parts of the 3D I liked were when it seemed the scene was going away inside the screen. The opening with the doll being pulled apart? Stunning. The tunnel extending outward from the door? Beautiful. The layers and layers of slowly abstracting trees? Perfect. Those scenes looked like you walked right onto the set of the film. Too much of the movie, however, didn't achieve that effect, and if a technique doesn't even seem to be working toward it's intended effect, what's the point?

I think most of Tyler Perry's recent movies have just been adaptations of his plays, so it's probably a copy of the original play that was released as a tie-in.

I can care less about Tyler Perry's works but what makes me mad is that you're considered a racist for no reason just because someone says Tyler Perry sucks.

I've personally never encountered that problem, but then, I'm not white. Things have gotten so sensitive now that nobody wants to be on the wrong side of a racial issue.

Myself, it irks me when my so-called 'brothers and sisters' claim that I should "support a fellow black man" and watch Tyler Perry's stuff just because he's black. Um, how about no? Why should I pay to see the works of someone whose work I consider to be unwatchable garbage just because he's (ostensibly) the same color as me? I watch what entertains me, period. What color the people in it or behind it are is of no consequence to me. If they're African-American and the project is worthwhile, then that's a plus, but it's not a requirement for me.

But however, I'm very happy to see Coraline doing well. Word of mouth must've been great.

That and maybe it's just that good. Sometimes the quality of a work can speak for itself. ;)

I'm quite surprised to see Tyler Perry at #1. I didn't even realize it was coming out, 'cause I haven't seen any TV ads for it. But, maybe I'm looking in the wrong places...

The Jonas Brothers took the 3D screens, which had been the majority of its earnings.
Yeah, I noticedthat when it's showing that I went to see on Friday without 3D had only 3 other people there, although that could also be due to the fact that it was a fairly early showing(6:05) at a less-popular theater then the one where most in my area go to.
