Oh boy, when your second to last episode is a Green Lantern parody, you know the writers thought this show was going to go on for another season.

Hehehe Al Gordon.
Not bad. I like the new Justice Force designs. The Green Mantle was a cool homage to the Green Lantern.

I was think they were running out of ideas.
Poor Mikey, always being left in the dust.
Welp, according to next week's episode preview, we'll be having a big cast reunion, as well as Khan returning. No sign of Cyber-Shredder, though. I REALLY hope he doesn't end up being a dangling plot thread, too, but knowing Ninja Turtles, I'm sure he will.

If we got just one more 13 episode season, it wouldn't matter. This show really needs one more season just to properly wrap it up.
BTTS was written as if it was going to last 26 episodes, not 13. It really does feel uneven if it ends with next week. Its a damn shame that it didn't get 26 eps like FF.

As long as next weeks episode does not end with Karai finding the location of the Utrom Shredder in the last minute of the episode as a Cliffhanger I will be happy. Yes I actually fear that will happen.

Well if that does happen they HAVE to wrap it up somehow. Maybe another DTV then at least.

How so? I don't see the connection.
Anyway, I missed it because I set the timer on my VCR to record the episode at 6:30am (which is when the DirecTV on screen guide said it would air), but my local CW affiliate ran the episode an hour later, so I slept right through it. I'll have to catch this one in reruns. Too bad for me. I enjoy watching superhero parody episodes.

If the writers thought this was the last season, I doubt they'd make the second to last episode another Turtle Titan filler. There are other plot-centric points that could have been done.

I don't remember if it was Raph or Mikey who said about them taking down Shredder, but they should've remembered that he's not so easily killed. Anytime they assume he's dead, he comes back. Let's count the times.
- He gets crushed by a watertower
- He gets decapitated by Leo
- He survives the TCRI building implosion
- He survives the Foot tanker being sunk
- He invades their 2nd lair, only to find out that he is really a she since Karai took over the role as Shredder

I missed it
I'm pretty sure it'll be up at 4KidsTV.com along with the other 11 episodes that are up already from this season. So you definitely have options to still see it.
CW4Kids.com has the first 1/3 of next week's episode up. I just got done watching that. I really won't be all that disappointed if next week's episode does end up the final episode. This has been my least favorite season. I actually enjoyed the Fast Forward season more than this one.

So do I, so do I. For Fast Forward at least it felt like the Plot line (The Dunn and Shokonabu plots anyway) was moving forward and advancing. Here the plot just seemed stuck.

This was obviously a transition season. If the first ep was any indication, it was build-up for what would have been an arc about 3 Shredder's, which will now never come to pass. I doubt that was meant to be an alternate reality or something.

I really enjoy how within this TMNT universe they've crafted their own superhero legacy, and continue to add to it with each episode. Despite this not being part of the main storyline, it was a good time.
One thing I won't miss when this show ends though, is Mikey and his childish attitude. This incarnation of Mikey gets more juvenile with each season.
I actually enjoyed the Fast Forward season more than this one.
Fast Forward at least got one consistent vision, whereas this season just seems torn between being fan-friendly and toy-friendly.

Not a bad episode but this should not be the second to last episode of the season/series. Even if there is more Turtles the second to last episode of a season should not be like this. I kind of miss the multi part season finales this show once had.

Agreed, it does seem strange a filler ep would be the second to last ep.
They never really did something like this before. I am starting to fear the finale will end with a cliffhanger...

Serves the gits right. I hate to sound mean but rule 101 of Television is "know that a show can be canceled at any time." I'm not in the biz but even I could have told them that. Even worse is that this happened to them with Fast Forward and they still didn't learn their lesson.
If the next episode ends with a cliffhanger I'm going to laugh at them for being so foolish and cocky. And if its revealed the Shredder Wars was the plot for season 8 I'm going to laugh at them again for writing so many filler this season.
Now about the episode, I liked it. One of the better Turtle Titan episodes even if it was a semi-rehash of the last one.
The thing that sucks is, the TMNT writers have ended pretty much EVERY season on a cliffhanger:
1- The Turtles get transported to space.
2- The Triceraton forces approach Earth.
3- The Ninja Turtles return home after a close encounter with Shredder.
4- The Ninja Tribunal appears.
5- No cliffhanger.
FF- The Turtles don't return home.
I agree with ToD. The writers should have realized that the show was obviously running out of steam and should've been prepared in case it got nixed. And knowing them, they probably ended this season on a massive cliffhanger, as per usual. They should take cues from the writing staffs of other TV shows like Justice League.

Who's to say they wouldn't end it on another cliffhanger with dangling plots? I like the people who work on this show but some of their decisions are just plain terrible.

Because if they were told right from the start this would be the last season, they would make every episode important and wrap up everything possible.

No one needed to tell them. They were partnered with Playmates after all, and those guys were responsible for most of the series bad decisions. They should have assumed Playmates would screw them over yet again and thus prepare for the worst from the beginning of season 7.
That's what I would have done anyway.

Season 3 had no cliffhanger. The series could've ended right there (though really, that was the worst cop-out finale ever).
Fact is, we really *don't* know what the thinking was behind planning this season. All the other seasons that ended on a cliffhanger did so because the crew was given a green light well in advance of the usual season pick-ups, and just continued writing. The only times this backfired was when A)the Ninja Tribunal season was held back and B) when season 2 of Fast Forward was stopped during pre-production.
Everyone here wishes the show got another season, but there's no proof that the creators were led into believing they had more episodes to work with, then got the rug yanked from under them. It's more simply a case of the show being produced under different mandates and guidelines now, and the higher-ups just don't care for big, epic finales.
For that matter, do we know this week's episode was supposed to air in this order? City Under Siege could actually be the penultimate episode and was just aired before the usual holiday break.

Exactly. And people tend to forget that most of the original staff working on this show are gone now (a lot of new faces jumped on board around Ninja Tribunal and Fast Forward), so we shouldn't expect this to be the same show anymore. The current writers today aren't going to write the series the same way it was done five years ago.

Lloyd Goldfine is still the head writer/director though, and he's been there since the beginning. He was at the Comic Con too.
Lloyd still makes sure how the season arc progresses, which is odd the way this season was paced.
I really don't know what to say at this point other than to hope for the best with the finale.

Justice Force filler episodes always tend to be the worst... and right before the finale too. Ouch.
I actually would have preferred the series ending after 3, or 4 with some altered writing.
While I haven't been impressed with the season's storyarc, I've really enjoyed this season's "filler" episodes; they may not be epic storytelling, but they're light, fun affairs which I find contribute more than yet another Shredder story.
Random thoughts:
One of the most dissapointing things about this season has been the drastic hit it has taken in the voice acting department area, where it really feels that the creators have only ten people to work with, and eight of those are Sean Schemmel. This episode was particularly noticeable, since nearly all of the Justice Force members were recast (and/or, alternatively, were directed very differently from before, which I think may be the case with Stainless Steel Steve), and it's hugely noticeable. While in some cases it's not really all that important--Ananda was never more than a bit part, even in her debut--was it really that hard to get Terrence Archie and pay to reprise the Silver Sentry? It actually makes me fear next episode's cameo-fest a little.
Even so, it was nice to see some familiar faces. Another thing that has been bothering me this season is how self-contained it feels--even more so that Fast Forward--so seeing the Justice Force again makes me happy.
The Green Lantern parody, on the other hand, was a bit too on the nose, particularly for someone who may show up again. I wonder if he'll bond with the other cop-turned-superhero Nobody. On the other hand, I love the idea of an extraterrestrial tailor.
Nobody has a jetpack! He is so turning into Batman--more than he already is, anyway. Give him another appearance and I'm sure that we'll be seeing him breathe in space.
I was somewhat surprised to see the cops and robbers actually use real guns in this episode; the lasers had been so ubiquitous since season 5, I half-expected real guns to have been in 4Kids "off-limits" list again, and that the show then missed the boat when they became acceptable again last year.

I always find it odd how that one TurtleTitan ep in Season 1 evolved into this.
Just think, this all started with Silver Sentry and Mike trying to be a superhero for one episode....and the idea constantly expanded through every season, adding new heroes, forming the Justice Force, Mike becoming a member, and even in FF it inspired Sentries' grandson.
Wow. Way to take a filler and stretch it out into a subplot over the course of 7 years.
I really enjoy the superhero episodes, personally. Can't understand why everyone else hates them so much.

I'm pretty sure the cops in this show always had real guns, its just that they hardly ever pull them out. The Larid cop in Samurai Tourist had one but he didn't fire it.

Same here. I actually enjoy the superhero episodes, but then I've always enjoyed goofy superhero stuff, especially when it doesn't take itself too seriously.

The Laird cop in Samurai Tourist had one but he didn't fire it.Yeah, but that was back in 2005, before violence and content were toned down for the series. After Season 4, realistic firearms didn't appear in subsequent episodes, until now. And even if more recent shows (Dinosaur King, Huntik, and Spectacular Spider-Man) haven't been subjected to gun edits (well, Spider-Man was, but that was a creative decision and had nothing to do with 4Kids), I wasn't sure the production schedule would have allowed them the time to realize that guns were apparently OK again. So I was surprised.

I remember this season doing a couple of other things that surprised me - nothing overly extreme, but enough to raise an eyebrow on what is a very kid friendly block. Hun threatening to chop off April's finger for that engagement ring was one, I think.
I always find it odd how that one TurtleTitan ep in Season 1 evolved into this.
More odd considering that Silver Sentry would be considered a C-list recurring character on the series, and now even he gets his own recurring villain with the second appearance of Malignus.
Still not a fan of the original Turtle Titan episode, as even today the stand-alone stories in the early seasons just screamed "filler" between the major arcs. But it really started to build once the new Justice Force arrived in season 3.

I really enjoy the superhero episodes, personally. Can't understand why everyone else hates them so much. My problem with them is they're basically mindless fluff. The concept of superheros in the TMNT world is an interesting one, but they never pop up outside of the filler episodes. Well, they did have a cameo when the Triceratons invaded and tried to stop them, but aside from that they never get involved with the turtles and fighting Shredder or anyone else, where that could lead to interesting dynamics. They're really underutilized.

They had a role in helping take down Demon Shredder in the season 5 finale.
They just revealed a more detailed synopsis for the season/series finale on the official site:
With Master Splinter rescued, it’s time to celebrate – and what better way than by having a wedding?! So, at Casey’s Grandma’s farmhouse, the Turtles and Master Splinter prepare for April and Casey’s long-awaited nuptials, but little do they know there’s about to be an unexpected wedding crasher… the Shredder!
This quells my fears that the Shredderwasn't going to show up again for the finale. The episode page also reveals the other "guests" of the episode, including Stockman, Leatherhead, Mortu (!!!), the Fugitoid, Karai, Gen, Usagi, and Renet. Here's hoping the series at least goes out with one awesome knock-down, drag-out fight to the finish.

Well that gives me hope. Too bad it couldn't be two parts though, or something.
I went to the site to look at the information of the episode, and the list of the secondary characters that will be involved is quite long. I blurred my vision so I could look at it and get an idea of how big the roster of secondary characters is, without being spoiled. So this episode might deliver after all.
mumbo
02-24-2009, 12:00 AM
Yeah, at least bringing in all the old characters like that, Casey and April getting married, and taking on Khan and the Shredder makes it feel like an actual finale, even if some things are left open at the end. I bet we see Serling go back to the future in the episode as well.
I could have done without this Justice Force episode, although I did happen to like it somewhat - as far as filler episodes go, and hell, as far as Justice Force episodes go too.
