Mysterious NEW Capcom Game revealed: Lost Planet 2

From the official Capcom blog. (http://www.capcom-unity.com/snow_infernus/blog/2009/02/19/capcom_announcement_on_xbox_live_feb_23) All we know is that a trailer for it will be on the Xbox Live Marketplace on Feb. 23 (aka this Monday) and Gametrailers/GameVideos/IGN/Game Spot/etc will have it up for the rest of the interwebz once they encode it. Everything else? Your guess is as good as mine.

While I hope for MVC or Power Stone, mentioning Legendary Wings makes me want to see a next-gen revival of it...and play the original...

Mmmm. I know it can't be a new Breath of Fire game since Capcom said they weren't gonna make anymore games from that series. A new Dino Crisis maybe? Mega Man Legends 3? Strider? Perhaps that rumored Sega vs Capcom game from last year?

Darkstalkers?This would be gold. I'm sure the original was just the street fighter engine with a different theme, which should have been relatively cheap to produce. No reason to not try to milk the new engine as well.

I know, but I'm still going to hold out hope anyways. I think it's also a bit too soon for a Marvel vs Capcom 3 as well. I'm sure Marvel wants to see if the SF franchise is truly revived before they partner up again.

Honestly, the last one came out six years ago and wasn't that popular. And it was the only one for that console generation. This should not come as a huge shock.

But, then again, maybe they've changed their minds and this will be the announcement of the mega-awesome Breath of Fire VI for Xbox 360! They did say the series wasn't necessarily dead, just that they had no plans to make any more games soon.

Anyway I been thinking that mystery game could also be a new Clock Tower. There supposed to be a new movie coming out in 2009. Perhaps is related to that.

I know, since I made a thread about asking for a new MML game and I got OVERWHELMED by thousands and thousands of ANGRY MMX fans that insist that the game SUCKED and it's one of the worst insults to the MegaMan Franchise EVER

and the whole fact that there wasn't a single MML game or even a compilation of the original games (Would it been too hard to cram Megaman Legends 1 & 2 plus the tron bonne game into a single DVD-ROM?) for the PS2 and also the fact that there were like, 3 MMX games for the PS2 kinda proves it :mad:

Although they did get PSP ports which were never brought over here. It's safe to say that series is dead.

Just like Rival Schools, Tech Romancer, Breath Of Fire, and Power Stone. I severely doubt this announcement is going to be for any of them, but I hold out hope.

Now for pure dreaming:

Looking at the trailer, the game remind me of Monster Hunter only with snow. I just hope the multi-players stuff is optional and the game has a solid solo campaign.

This is terrific news. The first Lost Planet was a great game. I wonder though, if there are forest environments, if the thermal energy would even be needed anymore since it seems kind of weird to still need to collect it in a non-freezing area(ignoring the indoor and cave portions of the first game).

You know, the big problem with Lost Planet was that there was a medium amount of cool fights with giant bugs slowed down by a buttload of boring, run-of-the mill fights with snow pirates. If they could switch that ratio around in the sequel it might be more worth fooling with.

I think Mega Man Legends III is the direction the series needs to go, actually. A full-on highly polished 3D game for the next-gen consoles. I say that as a giant X fan who has beaten all of the X games except for 6. I even struggled through the awful X7. I didn't finish 6 because saving all those damn reploids before they get killed by those ghost things is too much of a chore, and I'm too obsessive a gamer to let even one die.

I think it needs to go fully 3D with Metroidy lite RPG elements, either in Legends or better yet a complete restart, for one reason. I played Mega Man X8. I thought X8 was a great game, but you could take a game like X-8 and polish it with the most beautiful next-gen graphics you've seen, and as long as it was locked into a 2D perspective only a few gamers, like me, would be willing to play it.

If they want to grow the brand beyond handhelds they need to move to something more accessible to a wider variety of people. It's not 1996 anymore. The problems that plagued early 3D platformer action games have been mostly worked out for years now, as is easily evidenced by the Ratchet and Clank Series. In fact, they could take a page from the third Ratchet and Clank game and have some 2D perspective levels or level segments in the game to appeal to old-school fans.

Well, it is a Capcom sequel after all. They tend to iron out the kinks of the first game and make the follow up a superior game. Especially when Inafune is involved.

Look like Lost Planet 2 is 360 exclusive (http://kotaku.com/5159984/capcom-says-lost-planet-2-is-being-developed-for-the-xbox-360#viewcomments). I guess that explain why the trailer was on Xbox Live only.
