As expected, the new sci-fi flick The Time Machine was at the top of the box office, easily beating out Mel Gibson's war epic We Were Soldiers. Also, the new Ice Cube movie All About The Benjamins made a fair size splash coming in with just over 10 mill for the weekend. Below are the stats:
1. The Time Machine - $22,500,000 ($22.5 mill)
2. We Were Soldiers - $14,500,000 mill ($40.8 mill)
3. All About The Benjamins - $10,100,000 ($10.1 mill)
4. 40 Days & 40 Nights - $7,100,000 mill ($22.9 mill)
5. John Q. - $6,000,000 mill ($59.1 mill)
6. Return To Neverland - $4,700,000 ($41.7 mill)
7. Dragonfly - $4,100,000 ($24.9 mill)
8. A Beatiful Mind - $4,000,000 ($144.3 mill)
9. Big Fat Liar - $3,400,000 ($43.3 mill)
10. Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings - $2,600,000 ($291.1 mill)
Next week, three big movies are battling it out for the top. The DeNiro/Murphy comedy Showtime is expected to be big, as is the new animated Ice Age. Resident Evil is expected to top the box office. Expect The Time Machine to take a big tumble as the competition starts to get feirce...

So who here has seen Time Machine yet? I have heard pretty awful reviews on it.

I saw Time Machine and really liked it with the exception of two things. 1) It needed to be longer. It was only 90 minutes. Waaaaaay too short. So much more could have happened. And 2) The ending was not the best. They could have ended it so many ways. All in all though a pretty good movie.
I don't think Resident Evil will top the box office next week. I just don't think it has that kind of movie going power behind it. I think Ice Age will be number 1 with Showtime at number 2 and and a close tie for 3rd place with Resident Evil and The Time Machine.

You Guys are forgetting the BIGGEST movie coming out next weekend(unless I'm mistaken). Blade 2 . It's going to number one, guarenteed or I'll eat my hat.
Show time, Ice AGe AND Resident Evil are all films I want to see but Blade 2's going to be better than all of them.

Heh I thought so. For some reason, my head keeps telling me nextw eek is going to be the 22/ Thanks for clearing that up.
I've got to get my plans ready for resident evil then, because i have these 2 friends that I go to just about every movie with and it's usually majority rules and I know they are going to want to see RE over ShowTime or Ice Age.

Good to see LotR back on the top 10. I can't wait to see Blade 2 myself, from the looks of it, it's going to be great. I also plan to see Resident Evil over the week with a couple of friends. I don't expect it to be to good, after all, I've yet to see a video game movie that's any good (even though the first Mortal Kombat was decent).

I checked out Time Machine. Not very good. Bad acting, HUGE plot holes and logic gaps. There were a couple of very nice parts, though. The first time Alexandre goes into the future was handled fabulously, and the part where the audience sees both the future and past meld into one scene was very good. I also liked Jeremy Irons' character, though it was poorly developed. I just liked the tragic nature of him.

I'm sorry I contributed to The Time Machine's opening. I liked Guy Pearce's acting, but I didn't like where the story was going. It looked like it could have been good in the commercials...

The Time Machine...
H.G Wells has a right to be pissed off. None of what he tried to get across made it into the movie. Guy Pearce did a fantastic job, but this movie was just too rushed, and there was too much that didn't happen.
