View Full Version : Avatar Contest: St. Patrick's Day

Well, since changes have finally gotten completed, it's time to get back in the groove. Let's start off with an Avatar Contest, which we haven't had in a month.
Consensus seems to be that the contests should be held only once a month. (If demand picks up, we may extend that.) But here's the theme for this month's contest: St. Patrick's Day
It can be anything Irish or connected to Ireland. (just be tasteful and not offensive, okay? You know what I mean.)
To recap the rules:
To participate in the contest come to this thread and put up a note. If the avatar is obscure, tell us a little about it.
Next Saturday (the 16th) we'll lock the thread; contest is over. At that point anyone on the boards (participant or not) will get to vote on the avatars you liked the best. To do this, send an email here (tzmovieclub@yahoo.com) listing the three posters in this thread who you think have the best avatars:
* Give the person with the best avatar 3 votes.
* Give the person with the second best 2 votes.
* Give the person with the third best 1 vote.
Voting closes the night of Tuesday, March 19.
I will then tally up the ballots and announce the winners and the honorable mentions.
NOTE: I will be participating, but since I'm the official score-keeper, I'm going to rule myself ineligible. So don't bother voting for my avatar, folks, it'll just be a wasted vote.
For this to work, you have to leave your avatar UP and UNCHANGED at least until the 19th. Don't change your avatar just because the thread closes; you have to give others a chance to look over your avatar when they go to vote. (In previous contests, I suspect some people lost votes because they changed their avatar too quickly.)
If you have any questions, you can post them to this thread also.
Remember, this contest is entirely voluntary.

Okay, my avatar is about as far removed from Ireland as you can get without being totally unconnected to it. It's "Lucky Captain Rabbit King" from The Powerpuff Girls' great episode "Jewel of the Aisle." "Lucky" is the key term; the cereal that mascot hawks is advertised as "for the Irish seafaring nobleman in you!"
That's why it works as a St. Patrick's Day avatar.
I guess.

Just wanted to say that you're gonna make everyone wait a really long time just to find out the winners for this contest if you're announcing on Halloween :p

Yeah, I c&p from old posts, and often miss things that have to be changed or updated.
Thanks for catching that for me. :)

Molly.
She is a morbeg.
What is a morbeg, you ask? And how is he/she/it related to Ireland?
The Morbegs (http://www.rte.ie/tv/morbegs/index.html[/url) is a children show from Ireland. Molly and Rossa are the stars, along with the Magicians.

Here's my submission. It's a triquetra , a celtic symbol which can mean:
Christian Symbolism:
The Triquetra represents the Holy Trinity: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The unbroken circle represents eternity. The interwoven nature of the symbol denotes the indivisibility and equality of the Holy Trinity. It symbolizes that the Holy Spirit is three beings of power, honor, and glory but is indivisibly one God.
or
Pagan/Wiccan/Goddess Symbolism:
The Triquetra represents the threefold nature of the Goddess as virgin, mother and crone. It symbolizes life, death, and rebirth and the three forces of nature: earth, air, and water. The inner three circles represent the female element and fertility.

My avatar is Queen Beryl...a ravishing, albeit totally evil, lass. She's got the prototypical Irish girl's pale skin and vivid red tresses...and a bit of a temper on her as well. A guy could totally lose his heart to this wee colleen--in more ways than one, I'd wager.... ;)

It's a long shot but... this is a green fairy (I love fairies!) I found on the cover of a book. Since Ireland = green, well, you get the idea. I added the text myself. You like?

How's that?
I wasn't sure if you meant that you couldn't crop down the image, or that you couldn't access the image to change your avatar. So I did it all for you.
Hope you don't mind. :)
