This is something random I thought about the other day. I remember asking my grandma about 15 years ago if Goofy has a real name. She said it was something like Gizmo and he used to be really smart. The older he became the dumber he got, so people called him Goofy. I also remember something about him fixing bikes when he was a kid. I have honestly heard no referance to this anywhere other than the story my grandma told. Does anyone here no of any Goofy backstory like this? One theory that I have is that she may have been thinking about his nephew Gilbert.

In his very first appearance, Mickey's Revue (1932), Goofy was named Dippy Dawg. later, some artists at Disney studios nicknamed him Dippy the Goof, or just "The Goof". In his later shorts from the 1950s, Goofy sometimes went by the name G.G. Geef (His 1950s wife would often call him "George"). In the pilot episode of Goof Troop, Goofy recieves mail under the name G.G. Goof.

I don't think that Goofy even has an official name. He's just referred to as Goofy, but I personally call him Goofy Goof (since Goof is his last name in Goof Troop, one of the first times I remember seeing the character).

I'm not one to take anything in one of Disney's TV series as canon to be honest. He's Goofy, plain and simple.

"An Extremely Goofy Movie" has a scene with Goofy in an unemployment office, where he is called "Mr. Goof" so I think that's his last name.

If I'm not mistaken, even in "A Goofy Movie" Principal Mazer called him "Mr. Goof" on the phone.

I have no clue. Beginning in 1949, they changed his design to make him look more human-like, including smaller eyes with eyebrows, a little smarter, flesh-colored skin and occassionally no ears, gloves or the buck teeth. This Goofy would last until mid-late 60's when they brung back the pre-1949 Goofy. But, the smaller-eyed Goofy would return just for Goof Troop.
