Why did they cancel it after one season of 13 eps?

The same reason the red sky seasons of TMNT and the rest of CBS's Action Zone shows got canned: They had no educational value. At that point, the head honchos in charge at CBS had made it clear that every show had to had some level of education/morality tacked on.
Which is why the shows that followed next season sucked. Look at the short leash they'd put Weird Al on when he got his own show.

As memory serves, Skeleton Warriors & WildC.A.T.S. were 2 weeks late in debuting (1994) for some unknown reason. Traditionally, CBS holds back their new toon slate until after the US Open Tennis tournament concludes, meaning new shows start either the 2nd or 3rd Saturday in September. In 1994, that would be the 3rd Saturday, but SW & the Cats didn't start until the end of the month, and were lucky to make it to Spring.

Can't they revive the concept with a new series?
Who owns the rights to the franchise? Maybe they could re-launch it, it seemed to be an interesting concept.
I only watched like 2 or 3 episodes and I liked them when I was a kid at least, haven't watched them since. The song was catchy too, great designs, fun toys and an interesting story. I loved the toys, I had all the skeletons which were basically the only figures worth it and man they were amazingly detailed for kids toys. So its hard to believe it failed..
From what I've read on fansites before when I've googled Skeleton Warriors years ago they mentioned it was because parents complained about the show and the figures. Also he first wave of figures only had the villains which many parents refused to buy to kids. I'm not sure how reliable that is but I guess its the only thing we have.
I've also been wanting a SW revival or at least dvds of the show.
I guess off topic but my Skeletor figure of the new adventures of he-man was part of the crew and since I just played with them as being the new villains for the Ninja Turtles. :D

It was frightening, plain and simple. Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMU1_ctXthM) is the opening. It was too scary to keep going, but toning it down would mean changing the whole show.

My guess is the toys didn't sell that well.
That's usually the case in these sorts of things.

Man, I saw the show as a kid (I think I was only 10 when it aired), and I didn't find it scary.
A show with all Skeletons as the villains? Awesome.
I really wish the concept were revived for a new series.

I don;t think that I have ever seen this show, but the theme did seem a tad frightening for a children's show. I can understand why parents didn't like it.

Here's the full story of the toyline and why it bombed: http://www.bigredtoybox.com/cgi-bin/toynfo.pl?skeletonindex
I rented the pilot from H'wood Video some years back. (think it was one of their free VHS rentals) Now, skeleton armies are cool. They rock, whether fighting the Argonauts or the kid from Shaman King.
But the show reminded me so much of He-Man (the heroes aren't so different from Adam, Teela, Man@Arms, Man-E-Faces), that I did miss the variety of villains. It's not as special if it's just skeletons. The latest Skeletor figure probably wouldn't have sold out in under 2 weeks if he were surrounded by just skeletons.

A very interesting read, I enjoyed it. Skeleton Warriors was one of my favorite cartoons of the 90's and I'm glad that they at least got to finish the season one storyline, which in it's way was a nice close to the series.
I really hope one day it finds it's way to the land of DVD, love to add it to my collection. And I can see the comparisons with He-Man.
