Series when it is hard to tell hero from villain

What animes / manga's make the line between good and evil so vague, it is hard to tell?

My choices so far.

Code Geass R2 - mainly the second half, it gets confusing over who to root for. It is just so confusing.

While I know who the main heros are, and the main villains are, let me mention:

Blue Dragon: Tenkai No Shichu Ryu - I know Shu and friends and their allies are good guys, and the Investiture Beings (well the organisation itself and it's leader. Some individuals might be good) are bad guys. Everyone else is hard to tell, maybe if I ever see it subbed. It is hard to tell if Rosekstan and the White Brigade are good guys or bad guys.

I agree with the suggestion of Death Note. During the series, I didn't know whether to root for Light or not.

Death Note also came to my mind right away. Light seems to have good intentions, but his ways aren't pure, L, although obviously a good guy has his mysterious moments. I remember that I jumped into the middle of the series, and I couldn't tell who was good or bad.

I jumped in the episode before L appeared and I couldn't tell either.

Yeah, but during the L arc, both sides had very good points in their goals and very notable flaws.

Once it hit the time-jump, Light let his ego turn him into some kind of human/shinigami hybrid, and then it just went downhill for him.

Though, honestly, I didn't really root for any of the main players during the Mello/Near Arc. The only ones I was still rooting for were the (Japanese) Kira Investigation group and Misa, and the latter was more of a "get the hell out of there while you still can" situation.

I don't agree with Death note either, Light from Well Intentioned Extremist to a fascist, Knights Templar psychopath with a God complex in a second.

Death Note is a clear example of gray vs. Black morality L is the gray character, not Light.
