View Full Version : What shows/movies would totally rock if you hadn't become so sick of them?

I was thinking about Scooby Doo today, the original series. The cartoon was always a favorite of mine growing up, and I liked it up til the time I got Cartoon Network. Then suddenly it was Scooby overkill, and every where I turned it seemed all things were coming up Scooby. And why Scooby? Hanna Barbara had a thousand other shows that deserve attention! As a result of backlash, I really got sick of Scooby Doo. While I have the Original Mysteries DVD, I can't bring myself to watch more than that. Maybe I need a withdrawal period before I can take more Scooby, I don't know, but if it wasn't for the over exposure of the character on such a grand scale, I doubt I would have gotten so sick of the show.
So are there any other shows you loved that you would still probably love if they hadn't been over exposed? I think the over exposure of PPG is threatening to make that show get some backlash for over kill (which is why I steer clear from PPG over exposure, cuz I still want to like that show!)

Three: Buffy, Powerpuff Girls, & the Toonami block as a concept.
Buffy is not just a show on my all-manhater campus; it's a fr*ggin' way of life. Yeah, it can be very entertaining, but there's just way too many people who live & breathe by whether Buffy hooks up with Spike or Reilly or some scroungy hobo. Also, a scary history professor wanted us to "be like Buffy"; since I regard Buffy herself as a pushy, obnoxious whiner, the thought that someone would actually consider such a personality a positive thing is beyond me.
PPG is just plain overplayed. I resent it intensely if only because it knocked a show I really liked out of a timeslot after Toonami kicked it out. I'd enjoy it if it were less... overwhelming on CN and in every fr*ggin' store in America (especially Target).
And I gave up hope on Toonami long ago. It used to be really great, but between DBZ (which just isn't to my taste) and Tenchi (which I've always found intensely obnoxious, like most anime romantic shows), I somehow managed to first lose interest in it and then come to loathe it with a passion. There's no hope for me with this block anymore, unless they make one that airs anime (for the really pushy otakus out there who insist that Toonami is supposed to be all anime) and one that airs American action shows (Thundercats, Bats & Supes, He-Man/She-Ra if they get it, even the 90s Jonny Quest). Maybe--and it's a pretty big maybe--then Toonami wouldn't prompt a groan of disgust from me.
Sorry if this sounds sorta... nasty, but it's been a bad day. I just found out Steve's Comic Relief--the comic shop I've frequented for almost ten years--is no more. Very, very depressing & dispiriting in a way I just can't put into words.

The Simpsons, although I hate to admit it...
Really though, the new episodes have started to nosedive in quality. But Fox will still order them as long as people watch...

Simpsons and Scooby Doo. I still love wathcing both, but it's not as much fun anymore. It's the same old same old...it's like when they have a really good song, and they overkill it by playing it all day long on the radio.

I highly agree with Simpsons and PPG. Simpsons ran out of steam years ago but people still think jokes about Homer being fat, bald and stupid count as witty social satire. PPG is a show I know I would have liked if it wasn't such a marketing tool from day one! I know its a decent show but I'm so sick of hearing about it I don't wanna even see it.

I might also add that Pokemon seemed cute and kind of quirky, but I don't think I have to explain what drove me away from that money-printing-machine.

I think I'd have to go with DBZ which is really overplayed in my opinion.
I don't find PPG to be overplayed that much, maybe I just don't watch CN enough (and I do watch it alot.)

For TV shows I'd have to go with the Simpsons... that show should have gone to bed a few seasons ago.
DBZ or PPG don't bother me, because they are not mainstream enough to bother me.
For Movies: The Blair Witch Project and The Matrix. I loved The Matrix the first two times i saw it, around the 8th or 9th time I was forced to watch it I began to truly realize how much I hated keanu reeves. But what REALLY got on my nerves was the five trillionth parody of the Blair Witch Project and the Matrix.

I like Scooby-Doo, but he's always been so overrated now that you mention it. I like the original series, and the first two video filcks. I never cared that much for The New Scooby-Doo Movies (With guest stars like Don Knotts, Johnathan Winters, and Sonny & Cher). Scooby-Dum is okay, but when they added Scrappy-Doo, the show took a major nosedive. This live action movie is only going to make things worse for me. Have you seen the ads for that Scooby-Doo stage show? Good gravy, don't even get me started on that! I love The Powepuff Girls, but they too suffer from over exposure. They get four DVD's and I'm still waiting for some Dexter Discs. As much as I love The Simpsons, they too are also overrated. More so than Futurama, and Family Guy. Fox should've given these shows A chance to find an audience, and let the Simpsons fade off into the sunset. Let's face it, the show ran it's course. However, nothing is more overrated than Friends (Let's not get into how overrated Brad Pitt, and Jennifer Aniston are. I hate them with a passion, and I would hunt them down like a mad man if i had the guts.)

Man, how could I forget Simpsons? The last few seasons were subpar at best, and this season has just been a painful string of guest stars & Very Important Social Issues (TM). I've actually stopped watching it. It's a shame--if Fox had cancelled it when it was getting weak (before actually being weak), it could've gone out with some dignity and made way for the likes of Futurama & Family Guy. But then again, this IS Fox we're talking about. ::sigh::

I really got sick quick of Sixth Sense when it first came out on DVD. At my part time job (a video store) we had to play these trailer tapes, and they must have aired that Sixth Sense trailer every five friggin minutes. At least it seemed that way. I was so sick of hearing that kid say, "I see dead people." I really wanted to watch that movie a couple times, but I could not bring myself to do it. The trailers being repeated in front of me all the time made me swear off that movie for the next few years.

I never let overcommercialization or popularity bother me... if it`s everywhere, I don`t really care either way... none of the creators of the shows expected them to be that successful :P
I like the guy who came up with pokemon... he based it off his childhood love of capturing and raising insects. He`s the old, japanese, billionairre version of me.

I guess it is just me, but I still really like the Simpsons, even the reruns. Although, I wish they didnt air the same reruns over and over, they should reair some of the newer eps. I personally think this show has always been funny.
