Was anyone else thinking of one of the Simpsons Halloween specials while watching this one?

The first story was actually the least impressive. It's an old tale in which a warrior meets two mythic beasts, one that lies and one that tells the truth, and uses logic to counfound and defeat it. Only here both the beasts were lying, and Jack was made to look like a fool at the end ("So is this where I get my wish?" he grins, looking over a "room" full of old geeezers.) Plus that worm's voices made my skin crawl.

The second one was much better, but very disturbing with the cannibalism aspect. It also answers that warrior's code query someone asked here a while back--Jack strikes both the woman and the hag, but only in self-defense, and only realizes what they are when the gypsy girl's face falls off. Jack, watching the display of doglike savagery in the end, looks positively ready to vomit.

In the third installment, did anyone else think the gargoyle looked a lot like the stone monster Jack fought in an earlier ep, who was the trapped soul of a Viking? Here Jack also looks a bit of a dupe--he acts without thinking in putting his hand through hte force field, then kills the gargoyle who is the only one who knows the incantation to release the wish fairy. Again, really disturbing as the beast smiles when his arms are cut off and his body falls to pieces. But Jack redeems himself by showing an amazing willingness to sacrifice his own happiness for hers with those last few words. Though if in Jack's position I'd have wished her to be lifesize and indebted to me as my companion--she was adorable. This shows how selfless I am not. ;)

ehhhhh....i hated this episode, the first episode was boring cuz it was all dialogue with no fight scenes, the second was ok, i dont understand one thing...they all knew they were made of metal, and they ate each other, how come they didn't just eat each other earlier(yummmmm), and the fairy thing, jack free's his hand by wishing he was free, why didnt the fairy just wish herself free before jack came?

The specials, and an old sketch from Monty Python's Flying Circus, where a sexy woman locks a young man in a room full of old men (which may have inspired Act I of tonight's ep).

Not one of SJ's better episodes, IMHO. I turned it off after fifteen minutes, not because it was a terrible episode, but because the static noise drowned out all the dialog and music (my next door neighbor's car had just pulled in, which blocks the CN signals so I can barely hear the picture--you know how it is with TV antennas!)

Either my antenna needs a good pre-amp, or I need to borrow Jack's sword to slice up my neighbor's car (just kidding, of course,
but not about the pre-amp!)

BTW, I was the one who asked about whether or not fighting women was permitted in the Warrior's Code (thanks, Lyra!)

In stories about wish-granting creatures, the rule seems to be that they can only do that for another, not for themselves. The genie in the original 'Aladdin' story is an example; he had the power to do just about anything *except* free himself from the lamp.

I thought this episode was quite humorous, well except for the metal eating robots which was just disturbing! Any episode of Samurai Jack where it gives me something to quote for the rest of the week is just fine with me. This week its,
Jack-"When does the magic begin?" (Looks around to see trapped victims, and begins to pout)
There's no magic is there.

I even liked the fairy segment, but the cannibalism one...it just freaked me out!

I LOVED the cannibalism scene. It wouldnt have been half as beautifully gruesome if the metal was any color but red. I was giggling insanely through the whole thing.

They knew they were made of metal, but the SIGHT (or maybe smell?) of it is what drove them crazy. In real life, a lot of predatory animals will turn on one of their own the second it gets injured or cut... their minds are just programmed to eat whatever smells of blood.
