Dish Network and DirecTV are both fine, the crap about signal fading when it rains and snows is nonsense.

If I may interject, Dish Network and DirecTV are satellite services, not cable. Whole 'nother animal.
That said, I've had DirecTV since 2004, and have had no real complaints. I've even upgraded to HD in late 2007. Can't say about Dish, though.

Ehh, that depends. That happens to me whenever we get a thunderstorm or snowstorm. But all in all, I think Dish Network is okay.

This is the first case I have EVER encountered hearing about this. I have sold DirecTV and Dish Network services for a few years while working in retail and have had them myself and know many who have and as long as you have a clear path to the SW and a signal rating of 70 or higher than you are all set. Odd.

My brother has Dish. He seems pretty happy with it. Their DVR seems pretty nice. I loved DirecTV when I had it a few years ago.
Your more likely to get rainfade if you have a low, borderline signal. But even when I had a relatively good signal, in the 90s, it would still go out for a few minutes every couple of months or so if there were thick enough rain clouds to the south. It was like a storm detector because usually the gathering rain clouds knocked it out. When they were overhead and it was raining it was usually fine. On the balance, however, my DirecTV going out for a minute or two about once a month or so was a lot better than my Grandma's cable, which would sometimes go out for a whole day.
Snow fade was much more rare for me. The only times I actually got snow fade where when the snow filled the dish, and since mine was low enough I could fix that very quickly with a broom.

With our DirecTV, we've lost our signal due to weather conditions more frequently when we were only getting an SD signal. After we upgraded to HD, it hardly ever happens unless it's a really bad storm, and even then it's only blacked out for a few minutes, and usually just certain channels. We've never lost our picture for a whole day or anything like that. I've only encountered that problem with cable.

I hate dish. My future mother-in-law has Dish Network, and she loses the signal if there's bad weather. Also, one of the boxes in the house controls two different tv's I guess. Because there's one tv in the house that doesn't have a box, but still gets the signal. And that tv has problems sometimes changing the channel and stuff. I don't understand how it works at all. Cause imagine trying to use a television remote, but there being no tv there. How does it work?

That sounds to me like the original signal has been split, which is to say that the TV without the box is sharing it's signal with the one with the box. Since the TV set without the box is only sharing the signal with the 1st one, it can't broadcast the stations independently; if the TV with the receiver changes to a different channel, then the TV without the receiver would change also. The solution to that is to get the other TV it's own receiver.

Is that an introductory rate? It sounds like it could be.

But I would suggest to get cable instead.

Cable is OK, if you don't mind their prices being completely off the chain. I switched from cable to satellite back in 2004, and I haven't looked back since. Before that, we had Comcast digital cable, but we had to give it up because their constantly climbing rates were killing us. It had reached the point where we were paying close to $200 a month for our service. Even with a discount for Comcast high-speed internet, it was still too much. I say, if you want to switch to satellite, go with DirecTV. The notion that satellite loses it's picture with the slightest drizzle or gust of wind is bogus. My picture only goes out during a really heavy storm. I've never had Dish Network, but I've heard about them dropping certain channels for short intervals due to legal reasons.

If you only have two tvs and are using a dual-tuner receiver, you would not have to pay the $5 2nd tuner fee if you plug your receiver into a phoneline.

Which package did you have?Top 200 I think. When we switched back to cable last year we were a lot happy with the locals never getting knocked out.
