As we can all see clearly in the 'What did you buy this month' threads, many of us spend probably hundreds on Anime and Manga a month, many being on box sets. Curiously, I'm wondering--with life 'n all--how y'all do it.

Pssh, when you've got anime, who needs the boring shackles of life?
Well when it comes to me, I usually spam as many episodes as possible within two-three hours which lets me see maybe 5-7 episodes a view and I do as much as I can watch within a week.
(Yeah, I'm maintaining my GPA somehow too)

I just watch and read them as I finish them, but then rest my eyes and take a break and do other things, then get back to them again, but then again in my opinion there's nothing good on TV these days

Easy: I don't watch bad American TV.
During Spring, Summer and Winter breaks from school.

During the week I stick a MAX of only 2 episodes per day.
During the weekend I usually do 5-12 episodes.
The only exceptions I make are when I get a REALLY good box set, example being the YYH boxsets, I sat through season 2 in like almost 1 sitting lol.
As for manga, I usually read half and then the next half the next day. Unless its a really good manga, then I could read like 3 in a whole sitting.
On vacations when I have time to watch anime, I usually watch a lot of it.

An episode or two before bed on weekdays, and two or three episodes on weekends.

Well, besides having the time to watch all of that anime, you guys are all really lucky that you can even afford it. As for me, my family has never had much money, and I'm too busy studying in college to watch too much anime, or get a good paying job to buy anime with, so my family and I make it a point to save as much money as possible (especially with the current state of the economy in the U.S.).
So, I'm lucky if I can even afford to get 1 anime DVD a month. :p

To be honest, I still have some movies built up from last year that I haven't watched. I usually don't get far behind with my anime, but I am terrible when it comes to manga. I buy a bunch and then I don't read them right away.I tend to get caught up when college is in session though. I don't linger around until it's time for class, I just go right away and get some reading done.
Since I don't have as much free time as I used to,I usually watch an episode or two at a time,so it usually takes me at least 2 or three days to get through one DVD....and,I'm behind on my DVD watching right now  ...I still have Tsubasa volume 10,Saiunkoku season 1 volume 2,and Ouran High School Host Club volume 2 to watch, and I got those a few weeks ago....

I use my time badly. But, usually, it's just one or two episodes a day.

Simple, when nothing good on TV, bored with the internet, and have nothing better to do, I just break out the DVD's. I had time last night to watch Bardock special because CN was reairing the Superman movie.
I have absolutely no problem putting aside EVERYTHING or anyone else in my life just so i can read the newest manga chapters of the many manga (or Manhwa) that i read or to watch the latest of the very few anime i watch (im more of the manga guy). No joke, the real world (or anything/everything that takes up time in my life) be dammed when there are such fantasy worlds to immerse myself in.

I watch when I have time, plain and simple. I don't have a lot of time, though, so I take advantage of weekends and breaks from school. Weekends especially seem to be my time to get through episodes/chapters of stuff I'm following. Occasionally I'll also stay up later than intended to watch something I've been dying to see, but it really depends on my schedule. But I don't put my life on hold to work through my backlog as, well, I have a lot of things going.

After I do my homework and what not, I watch a nice episode or two. Really there is nothing that great on tv most of the time so eh.

I don't really find the time.
I've got atleast a 100 DVD backlog, some of which I have taken so long to get to it's since been boxsetted.
Manga, I keep up pretty well on though I'm behind on reading some series.

It's not that hard. I watch something as soon as I receive it (or fairly soon after), and don't buy more until I've finished it. And unlike Hollywood movies, most anime DVDs don't have very many special features so I don't have to devote hours to that in addition to the main program.

I usually try to watch the DVD (or boxset) right after getting it - if I don't, it might be months (or in some cases, years) until I do. It's not that I don't have the time, I just don't have the motivation, even if I actually want to watch it.
When I do watch, it's almost always at night. That way it's nice and quiet, there are no distractions and I have nothing else to do.

That's me as well. For anime, I'm WAY backlogged. No clue how many DVD's I'm backlogged on, but it is a lot (though I suspect less than 100). I do watch anime, but often, I find I also want to watch something else in my DVD collection. Right now, that's going through the previous three seasons of the current Battlestar Galactica.
For manga, I find I have an easier time of things. For starters, I'm only collecting a few titles. I generally read them before going to sleep.

Watch everything before you go to bed. You're not gonna be doing anything anyways.

I watch 2-3 episodes on average when I'm eating, and usually more when I'm at a friend's house on the weekend. I still have a tower of my still-mostly-shrinkwrapped backlog of everything I've gotten after Christmas, and most of what I got for Christmas is still unwatched.

Some of the shows/books I own are barely watched or read. It'll probably amuse some to know this is especially true of my Gundam stuff, most of which is bought in a 'get it whilst you can' sense so I can safely say its in my collection for later reference. A good example- I'm not a big fan of the MSG dub, so most of that hasn't been watched.
Further, I haven't ever really been in a position to buy stuff other than what I'm familiar with because I don't have the finances to gamble like that. Gundam? Collect whichever DVDs get released. Excel Saga? A friend let me borrow the first two discs, bought the boxset in NY. Nadesico? Saw it all on Sci-Fi Channel. About the only series I did take a gamble on was Galaxy Angel, which thankfully payed off (a 'cute girl' comedy series which isn't just a lame fan service vehicle...amazing).
There are some shows I'd like to try once I can land a job, like Overman King Gainer and Fate/Stay Night.
It's pretty much the same with manga. I got into Keroro Gunsou because of the Gundam links and then found it to be a genuinely amusing series on its own merit. A friend bought me the first volume of FMA and I liked it enough to carry on (there was actually a phase about a year or so ago where I was heavily into it, but this waned as the time between volumes has gotten wider).
For me personally, I probably spend more time discussing shows and working on related model kits. Those allow me to do something more personal with my interest in the show. Specifically the latter, I have a degree in Model Design and working on kits allows me to increase my professional skill set.

Pretty interesting way to go through a haul, but yeah you should definitely watch Overman King Gainer (which has an epic theme song)

Well, I like to schedule myself - I mean, I usually have a spare hour or two every weekday (at least), so it's not much of a challenge to stretch two 13-episode boxsets to two weeks of solid watching.
Like, my current schedule - Yu Yu Hakusho Season 4 just arrived, with 28 episodes. I'll watch half of that over the next two weeks, leaving me with 14 episodes. I'll save those for when One Piece: Season 1 - Third Voyage arrives, where I'll spend the next two weeks burning through that (with the commentary on the end), the rest of Yu Yu, and the end of my Rurouni Kenshin re-watch.
I started this last Summer, with YYH S1 and the first batch of RK episodes; one of each every night for an entire month. If I pace myself and only buy what I absolutely want, then I have good shows every day (except for Sundays, though I double up on Saturdays) and no big backlog. It's like my own little nighttime Toonami.

Ah, now that's some awesome Toonami, with Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, and One Piece, all completely uncut, and all with great English dubs (assuming that you are watching the FUNimation dub of One Piece, of course :p ).
As for me, I am currently still watching through my season 3 set of YYH, as well as the huge complex of episodes from my Batman: The Complete Animated Series set. That alone will be more than enough to keep me busy for months. ;)

I buy when I have the money, watch it when I have the time or feel like it. When I didn't own much manga or anime, I would watch or read immediately. Now it goes straight to the shelf after buying it.
This helps a lot with manga series (and regular books), because I find the wait between volumes can make me forget what happened before. I'd rather read it in a straight run than get sidetacked.
I also don't watch much TV, other than the news and a tiny handful of shows. Most days I don't watch at all. ;) I'd rather pop in a dvd.

Well, I usually don't buy anime DVDs too often. I'll ask some box sets for gifts on Christmas and for my birthday, but it usually takes a long time for me to actually buy something on my own. It isn't a matter of money since I have more than enough to go on an anime shopping spree if I wanted to. It's more like I need to make sure that I can buy the DVDs without feeling gulity of spending my money. I'm sure that sounds odd, but I often feel weird buying for myself.
When I do finally buy something for myself, usually a box set, I watch an episode or two every weekday for every set that I get. Maybe even more depending on how I feel after watching one episode and needing to know how something turns out. I continue doing that until I'm done with the set and then I move on to the next box. I actually don't watch any of my DVDs on the weekends since I use more of the day for my school work. Besides, it's not part of my usual routine on the weekends.
As for manga, I actually don't buy that much too often. I only have a couple of titles I'm interested in, but I may try to get into more. When I buy them, I read them right away. I'm a fairly fast reader so I could a whole volume or two within an hour and a half at the most.
I can't stand having an anime box set or manga just sitting around unwatched or unread. Nowadays I rarely buy either unless I'm MAJORLY into the series and will be willing to go through it multiple times. Usually I breeze through a manga the second I buy it, whereas anime series I usually try to watch an episode or two a day.

I've graduated college and am currently looking for a job thus I have plenty of time to watch the stuff that I buy.
Sunday, for example, I watched 14 episodes from 3-4 different series of mine.
You set up a queue.
I actually have hundreds of Anime DVD's and Manga in my queue right now. Also, their is my Novel queue, my Video Game queue (still working through 90's SNES RPG's, just finishing Lennus2 and Z:Parallel Worlds), etc. In Fact, every inch of living space seems to be filled with stacks of something I'm behind on.
Some things I watch/read/play right away, as they are more important. I actually blind buy most DVD's and Manga.
I like to finish collecting something before I start watching, so some things have sat on shelves for years. I generally Marathon a series when watching it. You can watch a full 26 episode series in a day.
