Hasbro CGI GI Joe Commercial! WOW!!!

Today, in the last part of Galidor on Fox Kids, they showed the CGI GI Joe commercial! It was so beautiful! My only complaint is that it didn't offer any info at the end except for an ad for Hasbro.com

I demand a cgi series in this style. If they can reproduce that for 13 half-hour episodes, I'll be ready to buy next to every GI Joe item that they sell. It will blow all of the other computer-animated series out of the water.

The millions of GI Joe fans demand a series like this!

I didn't see it. I imagine it was the same one they showed on CN, though. From what I understand, it was taken from footage made for a proposal for a movie that never got made. What a horrible, horrible teaser that was. With Ice Age, Final Fantasy, Shrek 2, and other so-so to awful computer animated projects out/coming out, the least they could give us is a computer animated GI Joe feature!

I'm going to kill somebody if that doesn't go any further than a 30 second commercial. That has to be one of the most beautiful things that I've ever witnessed on tv.

I've gotten a couple of emails from the folks responsible for the commercials so I'll share them with you now.

The first email was in response to me asking if there were any plans for MORE CGI GI Joe, whether as a series or a movie:


There has been an overwhelmingly positive response to the :60 second version which debuted at the Toy Fair, as well as the two :30 second versions which are now on television. As far as the future of CG Joe, all we can say at this point is that there is considerable interest in developing it beyond the current application.

To handle all of the inquiries, we will be setting up a press/fan site with stills, all of the completed spots and behind the scenes interviews/clips. I will e-mail you the link when it is ready to go.

The site has the full 60 sec commercial for download as well as two videos that are behind the scenes looks at making the commercials. They also have several still images from the commercial as well as a press release talking about their work on the commercial itself.

From all the stuff they've sent me, along with other information I've gathered, I have SERIOUS doubts that this was ever intended as a full CGI GI Joe feature. However, I have a feeling that Hasbro knew exactly what they were doing when they made the commercial given that their Transformers franchise was reinvigorated with a CGI series, Beast Wars. Given the response this ad has gotten, I wouldn't be surprised if Hasbro was already working on a CGI series, but everything is pretty much speculation until someone makes an announcement.

I LOVED IT! The entire glorious cast of the original G.I. Joe cartoon in glorious computer animation! (Pant, pant, pant...)

That's what I said when I saw it. There has to be something made of that footage. My jaw dropped at the detail. It almost brings a tear to my eye if it's only a commerical. That would be one of the most prodigal things Hasbro has ever done.
