www.animated-movies.com says that according to Moviehole, Disney has greenlit a sequel to the 1942 classic Bambi, and a new Winnie the Pooh movie to follow the 2003 theatrical release Piglet's Big Movie... If you expected The Eeyore Tragedy, you guessed wrong -this one is reportedly called The Heffalump Movie!

Also, Disney has also announced that the 2003 sequel to Disney's 101 Dalmatians will feature the voices of Barry Bostwick, Martin Short and Jane Alexander.

It just never ends...

Oh my God! Have these people no shame? A sequel to Bambi? I didn't like the first, but it's the principal of the matter.

And a Piglet movie? Piglet's big movie? The Heffalump movie? They've destroyed the magic of the original shorts and the decent prime-time specials. Not to mention the decent Saturday morning episodes. I never saw the Tigger movie, and I won't see this one.

Oh, for the love of cake, will they just STOP with these sequels already? I mean, sheesh.

For the love of chocolate cake, mint chocolate chip ice cream, and every other sweet that people hold dear! Why won't they stop tormenting us!!!!!! WHY?!?!?!?!?!?! It's so DUMB how they're gonna make the sequels.............but hey, I LIKE PIGLET! So I would want to see that movie....... :p But, they need to stop with everything else! How could they ruin so many great movies by making sequels that SUCK!

Well, GREAT! What's this next movie sequal gonna be like? HUH?! Is it going to be a bunch of nazi's are plowing down the forest, and It's up to thumper to see the magic fairy and bring Bambi's mother back to life? HUH? IS THAT HOW IT'S GOING TO BE? Then are they all going to go get ice cream with their new, converted, ecologist-nazi friends? TELL ME DISNEY! WHY?! WHY ARE YOU DESTROYING MY CHILDHOOD?!

Di$ney could suprise us all and make "Bambi vs. Godzilla". :D

Sticking in my post from the other thread --

Bambi?

BAMBI?!?! What are they going to do for a sequel? Have him track down the hunter who shot his mother and gore 'em with his antlers?! Or better yet, have Bambi's daughter stop some eco-terrorists from destroying the forest?!

Why are we even surprised anymore?

Instead of listing all the films that are being given sequels, by now won't it just be easier to list all the ones that aren't?

Subtle, Jim. Very subtle. :D

With all these Disney sequels in the works, I am hard pressed to think of all the movies of the past they have yet to defile with a lame sequel or at least announce one in the works.

The only one that comes to mind is Fox and the Hound. I don't think they have planned a sequel of that yet, have they?

I was waiting for someone to get that! Good eye, Maxie! Good eye!

Also, expect more sequel news next week. Apparently, Disney isn't stopping there? Oliver & Company 2 is also being considered...

Getting a little cynical in your old age Maxie - what kind of impression will that give the youngsters? :)

Furthermore - if that was the case, our topics here would dry up pretty fast...

Oh my god.

Oh my god.

Okay- if they want to butcher their fine works with crap like Return of Jafar, that's okay. Lion King 2? Knock yourselves out Disney. Hunchback of Norte Dame 2? Eh, whatever.

But when they take classic Walt Disney Masterpieces like Snow White, Cinderella, and now Bambi, and make these awful, bastardized DTVs, it makes me sick. Someone should have their knees taken out with a baseball bat over this.

It's an absolute travesty- an embarrassment to a fine company. Disney may be hitting hard times after 9-11, but that doesn't mean to butcher their classics to make some money. Get an original idea, and come out with a movie. There are limitless possibilities. But no- someone thinks we need to see Cinderella 2. Snow White 2. BAMBI 2. The mother's already dead! What's going to happen!

To say I'm... enraged by this is beyond an understatement. This is sad. Disney is horrible. Horrible.

...Horrible.

It is ok in its (about) 60s run time but I don't think the idea would work if streatched into a movie.

Okay, lets see if i've got this list straight now:
Cinderella 2
Snow White 2
Aladdin 2 & 3
Hunchback 2
Pocahontas 2
Lion King 2
Little Mermaid 2
Peter Pan 2

and now Bambi and 101 Dalmations....

Its official, The disney corporation truly has no soul.

You know what's really sad? I already know the plot. I don't even have to think. Bambi's daughter (and possibly son, but disney is into the daughter thing right now) is a wild little thing that won't conform and when the forest is threatened by evil humans she will find a way to save it and all the animals. The humans will mysteriously disappearand no longer threaten the forest until the next sequel. The daughter will somehow find her niche in the midst of all the chaos. The End.

I had heard about this news earlier and while driving realized what the plot should be - Bambi stumbles upon an intergalactic time rift in the forest and is warped back to his childhood. Not remembering anything that had happened to him before his entire adventure is the same and has the exact same consequences. This way Disney would only have to animate a couple of sequences and could reuse all of the old footage from the original film.

Whoops! Hope no Disney execs read this as it might actually give them an idea for yet another terrible DTV.

Uhm....my question is "Where is God?"...I mean...I thought making Bambi 2 was a sin. Really...It's Bambi...you..just don't make a sequal about Bambi. All the other movies...o.k, I don't think it's right..but, I'll live. But...Bambi 2? Disney...Disney is the Devil....

James Harvey

I agree. It is a sin to be making Bambi 2. And we all know this is a stepping stone to a bigger evil - Snow White 2. That right there should never be. I can understand Disney making sequels, but dear god - there are some movies that should never, never, never be touched. This is one of them.

So my question still remains unanswered: Did they or did they not make a DTV sequel to "The Fox and the Hound" yet? I could have sworn they did, and it's starting to drive me nuts now.

"Alice in Wonderland."

That is one that they haven't announced a sequel to. And if they do, I won't be responsible for my actions.

Not because the Disney version was a classic. It wasn't. It was an awful, cynical, pointless travesty of the book.

But if that's the case with the original, can you imagine how hideous the sequel would be?

Sigh. We can always have MORE Disney sequels. What a pity that we can't have LESS.

I feel that way about Hunchback 2 being made. Victor Hugo is spinning in his gave over this crap. He never meant his book to have a sequel.

Good Gravy! Why would you give an entire movie to Piglet?!? Tigger I can understand, but Piglet?!? Heck, Porkey Pig could make a better film than Piglet!?! This is just another example of Disney milking A.A.Miles characters for all their worth. Mickey Mouse can be overrated sometimes, but he's not nearly as overrated as Pooh Bear! I'd rather see Disney make another DuckTales flick, or give Darkwing Duck his own movie for crying out loud!

It's a travesty that Disney got the full rights for Pooh! That's another piece of English hertiage sold down the drain to make some very fat, rich, old men lots of profit - probably feed Mickey's vices for a while too...

Disney is disturbing period and the annoying thing is that seem to have no interest in creating sequels which actually are worthy of the originals. Just cash, cash, cash. Pity they don't spend that 'cash, cash, cash' on the sequels and actually make something that, for once, is worth watching.

Funny, I predicted the plot for Peter Pan 2 before I even knew what it was, and I was pretty much correct.

Bambi 2? Is nothing sacred? It makes me sad, it really does. Sure, I don't really like the Bambi movie, but that's not the point. It was something I watched as a child and thusly it shouldn't be messed with! At all! If they mess with any more classics that are waiting to be ruined any day now, I can't be held responcible for my actions.

I just saw Cinderella II yesterday, and boy was it corny! It wasn't even historically accurate! Stewed prunes? Dressing Lucifer like a disco king? What the heck?!? And the plotlines... "Ewww!" - Cinderella

I have a question about the Disney sequels.....

Could it be they are doing this to secure the copyrights for these characters? I recall reading that Disney was in danger of losing many of their characters to public domain once the copyrights on them expired. Copyrights expire after a certain period of time (78 years, I believe) and Disney may be wanting to keep the copyrights fresh for these old properties, therefore they create a deluge of sequels.

I actually don't know enough about copyright law or their reasons for doing this, but could that be one reason?

Mr. Obsession
03-10-2002, 01:23 PM
I think under current copyright law extension gave protection to all current copy rights for the life of the author plus about 70 years.

I know that there are some groups that are going to go before the Supreme Court to try and get Congress' limitless extension of Copyright protection declared unconstitutional. Their goals are mostly admirable: get works that are collecting dust in studio vaults into the public domain so that they can be restored to their original condition, and so that people can actually enjoy the works.

But if it happens Di$ney could loose their exclusive rights to all their original classics (including Mickey and Donald), WB could loose their exclusive rights to the Loony Toons, and DC could loose their exclusive rights to anything created before the 50 - 60's (a.k.a. Batman AND Superman  ).

Things should get interesting in the next year or so.

Maxie Zeus

Jerry Beck has a note about the copyright law (http://www.cartoonresearch.com/comments.html) at Cartoon Research.

James Harvey

That is an interetsing reason to explain these awful sequels, but they could simply renew their licenses by putting them in quickie cameos (like in the drweadful HOUSE OF MOUSE). There's no need for feature length movies. I big reason for these sequels is the money. They cost $10 million to make and gross upwards (after video sales) of $150 - 200 million bucks. That's alotta profit!

I know this thread is a bit old but I give you an update.
I saw the Heffalump movie a few weeks ago when it was 60 precent
done at a company license screening.
I must admit the character Lumpy is way cute! He will be Roo's best
friend, a way to get Roo in the story more. Future children's product
will push Lumpy, who has an adorable British accent. Lumpy will become
part of the cast from now on and will be in a follow up Halloween video
in 2005. I look forward to a time when I can use him as my avatar.

General rule of thumb- try not to bump up things much more than 3 months old, since old messages can be about things no longer relevant to the present discussion.
