Hey everyone Dreamworks just posted up a new trailer for their summer movie Spirit:Stallion of the Cimmarron. The animation of the trialer looks really good and over all it's starting to shape up like it could be a pretty kewl flick to go see.

Looks interesting, though I didn't like the music for the second half of the trailer. It'll be interesting to see if this can compete with Disney--though Disney hasn't really been putting up much of a fight lately in the box office.

Also, time for me to nitpick--they used a Red-Tailed Hawk screech for the Bald Eagle. What were they thinking? :p

I thought the trailer was spectacular and the animation just looks phenominal. After all the CGI we got last year, it's nice to see some cel-animation that looks this good. I was so impressed I grabbed a few screen shots and posted them on my site: www.animatedbliss.com

As far as competing with Disney, I'm not really sure that's going to be an issue...not for a whole month at least.

Spirit comes out May 24th and doesn't really have any major animated competition as Ice Age will have been out close to 2 months already. Lilo & Stitch, however, comes out 4 weeks later on June 21st, but by then, Spirit will have probably made a good $100 million.

Disney probably has more to worry about with the Hey Arnold! movie coming out the following week on the 28th and then the Powerpuff Girls movie being scheduled two weeks later on July 3rd. Both of those movies will certainly take away from Disney's Lilo & Stitch box office totals.

I'm really hoping that this movie tops the $100 million dollar mark and proves to be a success for Dreamworks. Currently they only have one other cel-animated film on their plate (this being Sinbad) and like four or five CGI films for the next 3-4 years. If this film does good enough it could cause them to realize that there is a lot of profit potential in cel-animation still and that Disney isn't the only one that can dominate in this market. Overall this is the most amount of cel-animated movies to reach the market within the same time period in a very long time and it should be interesting to see how everything plays out. Who knows, this could lead to an eventual explosion of cel-animation or an ever further recession of these features - this summer should be a huge influence in the amount of cel-animation we see over the next couple of years.

And what were they thinking using a Red-Tailed Hawk screech? ;) Probably for uneducated people like myself that don't realize the difference. :D

Is me or does "Spirit" look like "Lion King" western style?
