I don't know much about this yet, but what I have heard sounds great. Simply the fact that the subject involves an old man attaching balloons to his house, which allows it to fly, indicates the true potential for awesomeness that this movie has. I believe that Pete Doctor of Monster's Inc fame is directing but I'm not sure.

I think that it has an interesting premise. I really want to see it.

The old geezer's house flew all the way into outer space. He would've suffocated under the lack of air, but he flew into the sun before he ran out of breath. Mr. Old Guy was roasted into a crisp, and made into a McDonalds hamburger, like all old people are eventually.
THE END
Seriously though, I'm excited for this movie. I'm not sure how Pixar can top WALL-E.

If theres one thing we've seen throughout the years is that PIXAR never dissapoints. I'm sure UP will be no exception.

I'm for any CG movie that has people as the main characters as opposed to animals and other objects.

Can't wait for this movie. It looks so odd but I guess that's one of the reasons I'm intrigued.

To WonderWall:
WALL-E was the oddest film Disney has ever made, and nothing can ever top it in the weirdness factor.

I highly doubt that. PIXAR has been very innovative as of late, and I think their movies are going to keep pushing the boundaries

Honestly, I think PIXAR's jumped the shark with Wall-E, but that doesn't mean they can't still crank out a good film. ;)

Have you heard of Pixar's future projects? "Newt" and "The Bear and the Bow" sound pretty weird if you ask me.

It's not as weird as a G-rated version of I Am Legend.

I think Wall-E sounds weirder than both of those

It's too early to jump on the bandwagon, but I just saw the Disney Channel promo from New Years Eve. Russel's sub-plot sounds great. Plus, Carl is still cute as heck, despite being an old guy. Ah, what the heck...
*officially jumps on the bandwagon*
WOOO!
A CGI movie where the main character is a normal human being?
Wow, that's certainly unusual. Looks pretty cool, though.

Are ticket pre-orders on sale yet? I want to make sure I'm at a 3D showing before it sells out.

If you're going to the New York Comic Con, they're going to show the first 50 minutes of UP there.
http://www.mediumatlarge.net/2009/02/nycc-and-disneypixar-present-first-50.html
It's probably going to be packed, however, and I'd prefer to watch it all on the big screen so I'm going to give it a pass.

Converted this to an official news thread for all things Up.
I am definitely planning to cover the Up/Surrogates panel earlier in the day. Between all the other stuff I have to cover and the security checkpoint where they may not let me bring in my camera and iPod (even though I will have a press badge), I may not be able to make the screening. Having it so close but so far makes me crazy, but I'm sure by that time of the weekend, I'm going to be insane-o nuts just trying to keep up.

Yeah, this one has tickled my fancy...definitely let us know what you see!! Think there's supposed to be a preview, at least...so, I'm curious to see how the film has come together.
Saw some bits and pieces a while back from set-shoots in Massachusetts, I think...

Definitely keep an eye on Toon Zone News (http://news.toonzone.net/) over the weekend for Up news. In addition to the panel and the screening, we'll be participating in a roundtable discussion with Pete Docter (!) that will be going up as soon as I can get it transcribed (which may be Monday).

A sneak preview for the forum readers of the writeup that's coming:
When a movie can manage to make you cry less than 10 minutes after the lights go down, and then make you laugh uproariously less than 10 minutes after that, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences might as well just get it over with and pre-announce Up's nomination for Best Animated Film of 2009 now. But, really, I don't think you want to know much more than that until May 29, 2009, when we all buy our tickets to see the thing. And you should find out a bit more why later tonight when the full report goes up on the News.
EDIT: And there it is (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=28394).

NYCC2009: A Roundtable Discussion with "Up"'s Pete Docter and Jonas Rivera (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=28452)
Took a little longer than I wanted to get it up, but here it is: talking with the (co-)director and producer of Up. The two were a whole lot of fun.

Sweet!!
And, what about the Surrogates presentation? Were you there for any of that??
I heard that they had some robotic-clone-models or something like that...And, passed out cards to some http://chooseyoursurrogate.com site??
Any confirmation?

Don't know exactly when they posted it, but Apple has a second "Up-isode" with Russell and Carl (http://www.apple.com/trailers/disney/up/). This one is called "First Aid." That same page has the earlier one ("Animal Calling"), plus all the ads so far, including the latest full-length trailer. Also offers all of them in HD.

but i knew pixar an ace up its sleeve. a buddy comedy with a grumpy old guy and a cheery kid, cranked up a notch with a world wide adventure to places around the world.
this movie is gonna be awesome!!!!

Ronnie del Carmen just posted some images from the children's book My Name is Dug (http://www.ronniedelcarmen.com/blog1/2009/03/up-my-name-is-dug.html), which spotlights the dog now seen in the trailers.

Just saw that- excellent news for Pixar, and the animation genre as a whole. I think that's a huge honor to open up such prestigious festival. Looking forward to reading the reviews out of their after the premiere. What do you all think of the photo Pixar release with the announcement? I think it's a great image that captures a ton of action.

Surprised this hasn't bee posted yet... what's everyone think of UPisode # 2 "First Aid" (http://www.apple.com/trailers/disney/up/first_aid_medium.html)? I thought it was a fun little clip. Helped fuel the excitement for the film, which seems like was its purpose.
