Oddly enough I was in my comic store today and the owner/manager was telling me about an interview that Joe did and how he posted in the message boards responding to Joe's interview and how Joe himself responded. I come home and see Jim's post here about the interview and sure enough, the poster Seric is infact the owner of Camelot Comics here in Newberg, Oregon where I live. Pretty damn weird!

I have to agree with "Seric." Marvel's no overprinting policy REALLY sucks a big one. I don't know how many times he has needed more copies of issues because he has run out. And I know for a fact he really doesn't want to take the chance of ordering a lot of a Marvel comic and then they don't sell. But back when Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate X-Men came out, boy did he need second printings of those! Same with Origin. Even though he ordered a lot and they sold, there was still a demand after the sell out for more, and of course Marvel wouldn't reprint. He told me tonight that if he had more issues of #1, #2, #3, etc. UXM, and USM he would have been able to get more people to read the series. A lot of new readers according to him don't want to get into a new series unless they can read the first few issues to see what it's about. He's gotten customers to get hooked on a lot of Crossgen's comics because he can re-order past issues and that way he has the complete series so far for customers to buy.

It has made it harder to get some books but I think it's doing more for the buisness long term. In the Mid 90's all the big books were seriously over printed. Because of that everyone with a dozen copies of Spider Man #1 has a book that will never be worth much of anything because there are millions of copies out there. It has brought some life back into the comic back issue market that was in serious need of help.

I'm one of the supporters of the "no-overprint" policy. In terms of comic book reading, I'll admit it sucks. But for comic book collecting, it's awesome. It FORCES me to get to comic book shops to get what I want. Also, it makes comics live up to the hype of "being worth something in the future." Take GREEN ARROW for example. More hype on that than any DC book in awhile. It's worth $6 now. You look at ULTIMATE X-MEN, which didn't start that long before GA, and it's worth $20 now. Although I don't collect for money, it's cool to see return on stuff like that.

Also, if you can't get one of the comics, there's a good chance a TPB's on the way.

I like this interview more than the semi-bzarre Bill Jemas interview. As for the no-overprint policy, it doesn't really effect me. I visit my comic shop on a weekly basis already, so I don't really think twice about it. I do make sure that my comic guy has some copies put away for me so I get them. I will agree wthis has brought a bit of life back into comics. They were ridicuously overprinted in the 1990s (ironically, a trend started by Spider-Man #1 and X-Men #1) and I ma glad to see things getting straightened out, and better.
