He never did in any of the animated series- but that doesn't mean the meeting never happened. ;)

I know they didn't encounter each other in the animated series, I was wondering if they ever met in the comics.

They met in an alternate future in the JLA story "Rock of Ages".
Darkseid: You overcame DeSaad? Do I know you?
Batman: We've...shared a few laughs. Everything you know, everything you own: I'm taking it all. Look up.
Darkseid toasted Batman with the Omega Effect after complimenting him on successfully breaching his defenses and destroying his zombie factory on the Moon.

Yeah, that was a great story. Any JLA fan would do well to pick up the trade paperback. It's so cosmic it'll make your head spin. (One bad part - Superman was in his lame electric blue suit at the time.) And Batman realy does stand up to Darkseid. He even gets in a great insult before the Omega Beam hits. I won't spoil it here. Nor will I spoil the two unlikely Leaguers who actually defeat Darkseid!

Well, Batman's arleady encountered Hades, so why not? Why not have him meet Darkseid in Justice League? No one said Batman had to take Darkseid on in a physical fight; obviously, he'd lose, and I think Batman is smart enough to know that.
Batman wouldn't have to be alone either; why not have Superman, Green Lantern, et al, there as well?

you know why batman stands no chance againts Darkseid?
its because Darkseid wont fall for Batman's macho head games

In Rock of Ages, Batman organized no less than the defeat of Darkseid himself. It was a suicide mission. Batman acted as a distraction, while Green Arrow fired a flare arrow bearing Atom at Darkseid. Atom was at photon sized, and rode the light of the arrow into Darkseids eyes. From there he travelled to Darkseid's brain, and basically nuked himself.
All three heroes died, but Darkseid was lobotomized. Not a bad way to go, two unpowered and one shrinker taking down a New God.

That was an awesome spoiler! Especially since (1) I wouldn't know how to find that comic book, and (2) even if I did, I couldn't afford it (yes, I'm that poor right now). But what was the great insult Batman got in on Darkseid just as the Omega Beams hit him?!? Another spoiler please!!! :D

sigh is there anything the batman cant do?
id love to see someone truly cut him down to size by pointing out all of his shortcomings to him and forcing him to evaluate just what the batman is and why

Green Hornet, I think I have the answer to your question. :D
Ever heard these two classic military expressions? "The brain is the ultimate weapon." and "Superior thinking has always won against superior force."
Batman's superpower IS his brain -- he has one of the greatest, if not THE greatest, analytical minds on Earth (or perhaps in the whole DC Universe?) -- so in that respect, he's actually MORE powerful than most of the other heroes.
Batman's smart. He's a thinker, a planner. He does his homework. That's why it doesn't matter what superpowers you have, Batman will find your weakness, then exploit it against you. :D
Then there's also the fact that Batman's just a really popular DC Comics character; an iconic American character even, if you will. :D

the problem is that hes become rediculously powerful
hell they revamped superman under byrne b/c everyone thought he was too powerfull
its time for the bat to meet the same fate

Well, I see what you're saying Hornet. But I think they have to keep Batman that good so a non-powered human can stand next to guys like Superman and Green Lantern and still have something to contribute.
As for the insult, I'm at work right now :p and Rock of Ages is at home. I kinda remember it, but I want to get it right, so I'll post it up later. Basically Batman calls Darkseid one ugly S.O.B.

"How small you are, yet...you have hurt me. I respect that. Therefore let me show you mercy. Those are merely the 'Finder Beams.' Next comes the Omega Effect." - Darkseid
"You want to know why you're surrounded by all these 'maggots,' Darkseid? Because you did what you said you'd do; you recreated the whole world in your image...and what you see in them is your own ugly faaaaaaaaaaa.... - Batman

And how, exactly, would you "depower" Batman?? Make him stupid??

i realize the need to make him "keep up" with superpowered heroes , but isnt it just as bad to make him some kind of analytical god who can defeat anyone no matter what if he has time as opposed to making him be unable to go toe to toe with some of those villians/heroes?

The Rock of Ages is a great story. I just happened to have re-read those issues about a month ago. Green Hornet, I don't know if you read the comics but in a related note to JLA's Rock of Ages, after that story arc came a 2 issue arc featuring a new villain Prometheus who took down Batman, which was sad for me to see, but did what you had asked earlier. Maybe those two issues will make you happy if only to see Batman defeated.

At least Batman won the rematch.

I don't think he hates Batman. I think he hates the way he is on JL.... Calm down, dude. It's not that big of a deal. Like I told Hornet earlier today in the diffrent thread. "People are entitled to their own opinions."
(And for the record, Batman is my fav too!)

i was wondering when someone would ask me that
i *DONT* hate batman-- NOT AT ALL
as a matter of fact if it werent for BTAS i never would have watched STAS at first
i like him, his supporting cast and his rouges gallery
however what I *DO* absolutly totally completely hate is the way he is written to be better than every other hero out there no matter their power no matter what the situation
hes not all powerful and im tired of him being portrayed that way
DC did a complete reinvention of superman, his powers and his history because he had become "too powerful"
just something about the way he is given all power over all things annoys the heck out of me
whats worse he was beaten by BANE who wouldnt be able to hold a candle to almost any other hero if they fought, but somehow the batman can beat every other hero AND darkseid? i dont think so

Ahh but you're forgeting. (Kinghtfall spoiler) Bane let all the inmates in Arkham loose. Batman was very weak and tired when Bane broke his back.

hmmm true i guess
Edit:
you know thinking about it
it wasnt until after knightfall and then his return that he started to become overly powerful and jerkish to other heroes
something about being broken over someones knee i guess

I agree with Green Hornet, I mean Batman makes the other superheros look bad and it shouldn't be that way.

The way to depower him is to have him fai lfor once. That's why I want to see Tower of Babel made into an episode. It's shows what happens when Batman fails.
I think that Batman Beyond would have been so much better if instead of what happened in Rebirth, where Batman resorts to using a gun, that they didn't tell us what happened, and then like second or third season, we find out that it was something really terrible, like he got Jim Gordon killed or something.
I think what they should do in Justice League is show us that being a Superhero isn't all glorious, that it there are consequences that these heroes have to pay for the lives that they have chosen. Because they have so much power, there is much more at stake in every fight. I don't thin kthat people realize this because the heroes always win.

i think that is one reason i really liked BB -- it showed that hte Batman is only human
when Kal-El met Bruce again in The Call i LOVED that scene-- you could tel bruce longed to be young again just at the sight of the neigh-immortal Superman

Batman first encountered Darkseid during a JLA/JSA team up that took place in Justice League of America 183-185. I don't have those issues but it was referred to in various DC Comics and Batman was in that story. I believe they also encountered each other at the end of the Legends mini-series.
Since Rock of Ages was an alternative future, that doesn't count.
As far as animated contiunity, as of yet, they haven't met yet but in the Batman Beyond episode, The Call, Bruce mentioned that he hated Boom Tubes which suggested that he did encounter the New Gods at some point in that reality. Big Barda was depicted as a member of the Justice League Unlimited but it is unknown if her membership was concurrent with Batman's.
Of course, as far as I am concerned, BB is an alternate future and I only consider the shows that takes place in the present as part of the continuity unless proven otherwise.

Yes, but is Rock of Ages a Alternate future that WOULD have been the permanent future if they did'nt fix it?
Anyway, it was cool. Was'nt it suggested that Batman not only took out Desaad, but pretended to BE him for several years? Now that's some serious undercover work.
Depowering Batman leaves the poor man with NOTHING. That's like De-Superizing Superman. Not as strong, yes, Still strong? YES! At least when he's surrounded by Superbeings, he came the main man with the plan. Other than that, most heroes are self-obsorbed and need a slap of reality. Batman poses the constant reminder that, IF most humans on earth wanted to save THEMSELVES they could, and the need for Super powers would not be needed. If Batman were dumb, they'ed kick him out of the league.
And the Towel of Babel is'nt a defeat in my eayes, all of Batman's gadgets took out the whole Justice League, as planned. Only thing Batman lossed was the trust of the group.
