Freddy The Freshman...did it have the gay cheerleader cut out?

Darn! I missed It's The Natural Thing To Do...man, I love that cartoon...it's weird!

In the redrawn version of Porky's Garden, they left the Italian guy in B&W! Get the Cartoon Explosion DVD and you'll be either frightened or disgusted.

Of course, a certain two Looney Tunes were left out of tonight's (this morning's?) party. We know who they are. :(

Really? I'll have to check that. MY copy of that DVD seems to have the guy redrawn....

"Freddy the Freshman" (WB)
The tune was used in both "Porky' Garden" and "Raw! Raw! Rooster!" (plus I used it in a FanFic of my own). Although an old Stalling stock theme favorite, it doesn't seem to appear in any current WB cartoons. Sad, really. Watch for the blatant Mickey Mouse and Felix the Cat (in Freddy's coat) ripoffs.

"My Friend the Monkey" (Fleischer- Betty Boop)
Watch the faces the monkey makes--weird. Poor Pudgy--he works so hard to throw the little troublemaker out, then learns that Betty's bought the monkey off the organ grinder. Unfortunately this print looked very dark in places.

"Porky's Garden" (WB)
Fav bit: the Popeye caricature, natch. Though I'm surprised Porky's neighbor hasn't been deemed offensive to Italian-Americans yet.

"It's the Natural Thing To Do" (Fleischer- Popeye-
The trippiest Popeye cartoon I've ever seen. I got a feeling the "Popeye fan club" was a code word for the Hayes office, and this was a sardonic remark on how censorship ruined the cartoon business. Basically this one is six minutes of nothing...and that's the joke! We also get to see Bluto as a masochist--very disturbing (he begs Popeye to hit him and even lets him set his a** on fire!). It got weirder because in the middle I flipped the audio to ALTERNATIVE and listened to it in Spanish. The phrase "It's the natural thing to do was translated to something like "...[i]formal natural". You have to wonder what those dubbers are smoking--they either try to be Gary Owens or run their lines excessively through their nose, rendering them too garbled to comprehend.

"Porky's Double Trouble" (WB)
The moral of the story? Dames always go for the bad boys.

"The Captain's Pup" (MGM- Captain and the Kids)
I couldn't help but notice that for all the trouble that dog caused the Captain, he still showed it affection and hugged it in the end. Aw.

There was also an Italian stereotype in the Betty Boop cartoon that came on. We'd better enjoy these cartoons now, 'cause I get a feeling they'll be shelved along with Japanese, Indian, and black stereotypes soon.

Hey, you better enjoy "It's the Natural Thing to Do," while it's still on -- Popeye and Bluto get in some pretty solid punches on Olive in the last scene, and that's violence against women, which we can't have kids seeing, because they'll want to beat up their girlfriends when they're older.

Oh well, if nothing else, last night's LNB&W featured a rare chance to hear Mel Blanc's Porky voice unspeeded near the end of "Porky's Double Trouble."

Does CN show "Brotherly Love"? Olive gets bashed at the end of that one, too.

I guess on the same coin, CN will have to ban "Porky's Romance" and "Wild Wife". The wives in them are more than quick to clout their husbands, and NOT for the reasons of self-defense....We don't want little girls growing up thinking that they can win the battle of the sexes by hitting men... ;)

PORKY'S ROMANCE is already not shown on CN, because of the scene where Porky tries to hang himself, and that part can't be cut out because the story would make no sense without it. They only showed it once, and it was during a rare, late night Bugs and Daffy.

The Betty Boop cartoon had a end title for Thunderbird Films. I'm wondering what this could be.

It means...VERY BAD FILM PRINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wouldn't be nice if Cartoon Network would show(in beautiful prints) the pre-code Betty Boop cartoons...
