I think the Yellow and Green Lantern Corps will have to team up in order to fight for their own survival :D .

Great stuff from Johns, as always. The two month delay was well worth it.

just finished reading it, spot on issue like previous issues. Nice introduction to the blue Lanterns. Though I wonder what cost there is to be a Blue Lantern.

I hope sinestro's daughter isnt Natu. PLEASE that is too cliche!

Red Lanterns? Is this going to be like "The Red Hulk"?

Nice follow-up to the Rage one-shot.

Kind of feel they're really pushing it with the "hope" thing with the Blue Lanterns, power-level wise. It's one thing to have hope be your source of power, or to leech off the hope of others to get it. But to have the ability to recharge a sun or, more importantly in the long run, recharge a Lantern ring, seems a little excessive to me.

Still interested to see where this goes, though.

I personally hope they bring back G'nort to fight the rage cat. :D

Given Johns' position within the Superman titles, I'm equally hoping for a Rage-Cat vs. Krypto match myself...

Can this get any better? I didn't think so during the "Sinestro Corps War" as that was so riveting, but the slow build-up to "Blackest Night" is pure gold! Introducing the new Corps' one by one over the course of months was a good move.

Although I have no doubt that Hal will not become a Blue Lantern, personally, I secretly think it would be pretty cool - if even only for a short stint :p I do agree that they seem a bit too powerful, but there has to be a catch. I take it when the newest Blue Lantern was donned, the talk about his fate wasn't only meant in a positive way..

We've yet to be introduced to the Orange and Black Lanterns yet, so the build-up is far from over and I'm glad, because I'm loving every minute of it!

Great look on Sinestro's face closing the issue of, by the way.

I'm still waiting for the introduction of a Star Sapphire (Violet Lantern) Corps to the Green Lantern books. I'm wondering if they would look as hot as the original Star Sapphire, Carol Ferris?:D

In celebration of Geoff Johns' Week (http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?p=3118150), we're stickying this thread to the top of the forum!! With the opening part of this storyline now out on the stands, what are your thoughts on it?!?

Is Geoff Johns taking this whole "Rainbow Lanterns" concept too far, or is this the best Green Lantern's been in years?!?

Is Geoff Johns taking this whole "Rainbow Lanterns" concept too far, or is this the best Green Lantern's been in years?!?

The introduction of the other 5 Corps was, in retrospect, inevitable given the introduction of the emotional spectrum in Green Lantern: Rebirth and it's exploration in the preceding "Secret of Star Sapphire" arc. However, I'll acknowledge that I wasn't fully sold on the concept of the multi-colored Corps when SCW concluded last year. It just seemed too ambitious a step to take.

Now, a year later and I'm more sold on it than I was. I'm glad that Johns has created enough of a difference between the MO's and operations of the Corps. (Sinestros are terrorists, Red Lanterns are akin to rabid hounds, etc.). My concern now is how far his ultimate game-plan for the Corps goes (assuming they're not all annihilated come July.

It's just you.:D

Well, it's officially a hat trick! That's three issues (including the Final Crisis special) of awesomeness in a row, ladies and gentlemen, and we've still got one more to go before the coming of Agent Orange...

These new Corps are working great. Each one has a very strong and distinct philosophy, yet at the same time they all possess the same flaw. Each Corps believes that they are the strongest/truest/best. Saint Walker expressed this perfectly by declaring the Blue Lanterns as "Saints of the Universe."

It's easy to see how this will break down into war. Too bad about Laira, though.

Okay, I'll bite: Who's the hot girl on the cover of this issue, and why is she spewing blood? Don't tell me the "Red Lanterns" are all infected with the Rage Virus?!? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/28_days_later)

Laira, a former officer of the Green Lantern Corps who was stripped of her ring and rank just before the start of the arc.

The current take on the Lantern's rings is that they are channeling energized emotions, which are so powerful that they have generated their own electromagnetic/color spectrum. Willpower (Green) is the fulcrum point, hence why the GLC picked it. On the left side is Rage (Red), Avarice (Orange), and Fear (Yellow). To the right lies Hope (Blue), Compassion (Indigo), and Love (Violet). The Red Lanterns are powered by Rage and the thing is, the farther you move along the spectrum, the more control the emotion has over you. As they are at the far end, the Red Lanterns are thus little more than rabid dogs with power rings, out of control and literally bursting with energized rage; it's replaced their blood and life-force, hence the puking.

I am loving this arc and have been reading this since the Sinestro Corps War. I think that what Geoff Johns has done with the Green Lantern/Corps comics is awesome. I am totally hooked on this and am now a Green Lantern fan. After reading this issue, it makes me wonder one thing. Will Hal Jordan be exposed to the full spectrum? Which of the other rings will he recieve?

The two awesome moments of this issue:
The Sinestro Corps bursting into the fray in a splash page - totally unexpected!
The final splash of Hal in the Red Lantern get-up... you know there's no way it's going to stick any longer than the next-to-last page of the conclusion to this story arc, but wow, how cool was that? :pYou make an interesting point, witness! Hal wore some yellow power rings during the "Sinestro Corps War" and now he's simultaneously wearing a green and a red ring - the red one seems to be in control though. The Blue Lanterns want him in blue and are predicting it to be his destiny. So I guess by the time "Blackest Night" is over, we might have seen him wearing a variety of rings :) Save for black and violet though, as I don't seem him dying again and the Violet Lanterns seem to be an all-girls club ;)

Gah, I can't believe I'm reduced to waiting for the next issue again

You're probably right about Hal not getting the two you mentioned. After reading this issue again, I'm hoping that every colored lantern that they've killed off so far becomes a Black Lantern. Laira, for instance.

Not just Laira, but the other Lost Lanterns that have been KIA since "Revenge of the Green Lanterns"; that's going to make for an interesting reunion with the surviving Lost Lanterns, eh?:D

Willpower (Green) is the fulcrum point, hence why the GLC picked it. On the left side is Rage (Red), Avarice (Orange), and Fear (Yellow). To the right lies Hope (Blue), Compassion (Indigo), and Love (Violet).

They have a Indigo one? I just started getting into GL with Secret Origin, and working my way through the trades now. But at the end of the Star Sapphire story, they showed a floor plan thing, with Green in the middle, and three on each side, making seven. I assumed it was Green, Yellow, Orange, Red, Blue, Black and Violet.

Then again, I'm not reading Green Lantern Corps., so if it's stated in there, I totally missed it.

As for the newest issue?

I absolutely love how Hal's being written here, and how much it makes sense that other Lanterns are trying to recruit him. Not just because he's billed as "the best," but because of his actions.

The best of it, though, is Hal's undying loyalty to the Green Lanterns. His entire effort with Sinestro, and trying to kill him, was perfectly done. You could really feel that, with every word he said, Hal was trying to convince himself that it was what needed to be done, even if he didn't agree with it.

Love this title.

The only appearance of the Indigo Lanterns thus far was in the War of Light spread in the "Sinestro Corps War" finale. They haven't shown up in either title yet, but they'll need to before July.

And Johns has been setting up Black as representing the absence of life, death since the early issues of his run. This is key to the Black Lanterns, the unknown 8th faction intent intent upon ensuring the Blackest Night occurs.

I think you have the wrong cover and info...? Anyways, great issue again. Whoever guessed a few issues ago about Sinestro's daughter, congrats to you. It looks as if you've got it correct. And Hal Jordan becomes the first rainbow lantern! It looks as though all four are part of him: green, yellow, red, and blue. I thought only the two guardians could give away the blue rings? Even though Hal was purged of the red (red ring is cracked, but still on his finger), he looks to be in serious trouble. Carol Ferris has joined the violet it looks like too. Things are going really fast towards War of Light and Blackest Night! Bring it on!

A little predictable on a few counts, but still a great set-up for the long-run and the coming War of Light.
