Yeah one of the rare times Wile spoke.
I remember being pretty surprised seeing these shorts where he actually talked. Surprisingly, I still found them to be pretty decent. You also wouln't have considered Wil E. an intelligent speaking "genius", so it was kind of funny discovering that at first.

Did we mention that Wile E. was a genius? The double sided dynamite stick has to be a personal favorite. ;)

Whoever programmed this marathon deserves major kudos, because it's been nothing but great cartoon after great cartoon. And the progression has been great - Pre-1948s during the day, post-48s towards the afternoon, and the very best in the 7pm hour.
It's like someone at CN sat down and chose 100 of the very best cartoons as if to say "This is what you have been missing. This is why the Looney Tunes should be airing on television."

I remember two of the gags from Show Biz Bugs were reused in a Porky Pig cartoon--the trained pigeons and the "I can only do it once" gag with nitro glycerine and a lit match. (which apparently was cut)
And look, it's the Those Endearing Young Charms gag...with a xylophone.

I missed the ending to "Show Biz Bugs". What did they remove? They used to shorten the number of flammable things Daffy chugged to just the Nitro. Don't tell me they cut MORE...

Man, they do that cut of Daffy exploding and follow it up with a cartoon called "Satan's Waitin'"? Ironic much?
Yeah, the edits are really inconsistent. How are you going to edit a clip of Daffy exploding, but not edit a short where Sylvester gets killed several times?
I missed the ending to "Show Biz Bugs". What did they remove? They used to shorten the number of flammable things Daffy chugged to just the Nitro. Don't tell me they cut MORE...
unfortunately, it's CN's 2003 "Butcher Shop" edit of SBB - the infamous ending was cut completely

Ouch. That's just WRONG. "shortened" I can live with. GONE is another thing entirely.

Basically, the ending. :P
It ends extremely suddenly after the xylophone gag.
Ouch. That's just WRONG. "shortened" I can live with. GONE is another thing entirely.
IMO it's just like removing the scene from Pokemon movie 1 (also from WB) where Ash "dies" and is brought back to life (which thankfully didn't happen)
other edits that would take away a lot would be:
removing the funeral scene from the Futurama episode "The Sting"
removing the scene in Daffy Doodles where Daffy sings "She was an acrobat's daughter" (this may have happened in CT, during a circus ban imposed after a 1944 fire in Hartford, as the song was too much a reminder of the event)
removing the entire "boat race" scene from the Family Guy ep where Lois becomes a model
RSNaco
01-01-2009, 06:32 PM
And on top of that, Sylvester dies his last life by getting BLOWN UP BY NITRO as well as those criminals... way to be hypocritical in editing choices, CN.

I do. Bugs is really over rated, and in that episode where they compete on the stage, it sucks seeing Bugs do barely NOTHING to get a response, where Daffy busted his ass and got nothing.
Goofy Daffy maybe, but egotistical greedy Daffy tends to wear on you in too many doses. :)
Not to say he isn't a good character in either iteration though, I just prefer the random WTF HOOHOO Daffy more.

Well, Warner hasn't given them the new DVD prints so of course they're airing the version they have on them. I'd figure that if they made new masters off those, the edits would be much more consistent across the board.
That and maybe some of these cartoons wouldn't look sub-VHS quality, like Dripalong Daffy.
And don't get me wrong - these are just minor nitpicks. In the end all that really matters is having these cartoons on television.

Both shorts were released in the same year. The story goes is that both MGM & WB claim that one plagiarised the other. The Tom & Jerry won the Oscar that year though.

"Rhapsody Rabbit" and "The Cat Concerto" were released less than a month apart from each other (or somewhere along those lines). It is never clear if one ripped off the other, or if it was just a coincidence.
"Duck Amuck" is not the best animated cartoon ever made. It's the best THING ever made. If I were to lump all cartoons, movies, TV series, video games, books, etc. altogether, Duck Amuck would win by a landslide.

Bingo. I consider Bobobo-Bo Bo-bobo the anime equivalent.
What's Opera, Doc? may be the most dramatic Looney Tune made. It always made me sad (especially the closing moments).

Wait, are they airing the best shorts in the last hour. Because they aired both of my favorites in the last 30 minutes: Duck Amuck and The Opera Episode.
No one denies that "What's Opera Doc" is a beautifully staged cartoon, but it's probably my least favorite of the final seven. Bugs is... a little TOO comfortable in drag in this cartoon.

It really irk me that networks always have to stop marathons around 6/7 so they can show what their usual weeknight programming. Like one time that Comedy Central aired Groundhog's Day several times, but they stopped just they could show more Scrubs reruns & repeats of the previous night's Daily Show. I just hope CN will start showing this atleast an hour a day like Tom & Jerry.
