For most of that time, he admits, few took his argument -- that an economic and moral collapse will trigger a civil war and the eventual breakup of the U.S. -- very seriously. This guy may have been an expert on US-American relations, but he doesn't understand is that America has already through one terrible economic struggle. If this country enters another Great Depression, it won't dissovle, the people will live through it again. This is very possible. I recently saw another similar article by a Russian... and when my dad and I were visiting people at his old work a few days ago, one of the Russians there was talking about collapse... These are people who lived through a collapsing empire, and they know the signs.

However the new "countries" are fairly unrealistic. If this were to happen, I'd say that Canada would take over Alaska, Idaho, Washington, and Oregon, too, and California, Arizona, and (possibly) Nevada would become part of Mexico. I also think Canada would take over the Northeastern states. What will happen to the southern states is an enigma, but they will probably become a sort of new confederacy, due to disallusionment with the election of a black man to the country, blaming him on the country's collapse. This would take up all the light blue states except Texas (which would become part of Mexico) and New Mexico (same fate as TX) and potentially Oklahoma, which would become Native America (due to the large Native American population).

This is all just speculation though and in all probability my potential countries will be just as wrong as this guy's and America might even stick around (although the sort of imperialism of post-WWII America will decline and Canada may or may not absorb parts of the country, most likely the northeastern and midwestern parts... maybe the same with Mexico and the California-Arizona-New Mexico-Texas area... especially Cali, considering their recent state bankruptcy... and again, maybe not).

Can someone change.the title of this thread to "Russian Profressor Says United States Will Disintegrate in 2010" for sake of being more accurate. Because nothing is set in stone, this is just one man's theory. Just like people said the Large Hadron Collider would destroy the world. Even if the country does dissolve, I'm pretty sure there will be more than enough patriots willing to recreate the nation.

Honestly. The Eastern U.S., joining the EU? And no, a breakup isn't likely. Give me a break. I guess predictions like this become more popular in the midst of economic troubles, but it's just nonsense. We have issues, but it's nothing compared to the really serious problems of American history. For example, if you ever hear or read anybody comparing 2008 to the Great Depression, that's a sign that you should not take that person seriously. You want serious hardship, it's right there in our history books.

Dude take it from someone who lives 5 minutes away from Mexico and crosses over daily, Mexico couldnt take over Carson City, let alone the southwestern United States. Mexico has its own problems that even if the United States were to collapse, Mexico would still be worse off...sadly enough. You know i dont even know if any of what you just said was you being serious or just joking, cause that read like some kind of history fan fic story. I mean, when the Soviet Union collapsed I dont ever recall the United States stepping in and taking over Russia. I dont recall China going in there, or the country itself splintering off into different little countries. I dont recall a massive civil war either. And seriously, even if the US disintergrated, that doesnt mean are nuclear capabilities would disappear, or our armies would vanish. I mean let's go back to History and look at who had what before we accquired these lands that are today our United States.

The Original 13 colonies would go back to the European Union (So States like Delaware, Rhode Island, etc) which made up the original 13 states would be EU.

Maine would end up in Canadian hands as would Michigan, Wisconsin, North and South Dakota, Minnesota, and parts of Montana

Tennesee and Kentucky would be Independent thus their own states (the Only States that are in fact were founded by original colonists. West Virginia would go independent as well (During the Civil War, West Virginia was in fact the western most counties of Virgina (Who were Confederates), who sided with the Union

Florida would either go to the EU (Spain) or Mexico.

Louisiana and most of the Midwest all the way to the State of Montana would go to the French (The Louisiana Purchase) thus the EU comes into play again

Washington, Oregon, Idaho, along with Alaska would be Russian Controlled, Not Chinese. (Oregon Expansion)

States Like Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, and Utah would be under Mexican Control.

Hawaii would either be Chinese or Japanese Controlled, although the original state was independent as well.

In short, Look over any history book and then match up the pieces that made up this great country of ours and you will really see who gets what.

Mostly anti-war Quakers that ran from West Virginia through Pennsyvania. To divide a Nation you need to kill government money. Our Nation would divide into far more sections than that. Then it would reconstitute depending on where the heavy armour and rockets are located with the National Guard are. Anarchy roughly breaks down by who can kill who.

Here's my hilarious prediction for 2010:

Hawaii, Arizona, and Oklahoma will become their own nations.

Michigan will become a socialist nation called New Michigan.

Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia will become a Disputed Nuclear Zone.

Louisiana, New York, and most of Florida will all be underwater. The remains of Florida will be an island that looks like the letter "W".

California, Oregon, and Washington will form into it's own democratic nation with San Seattle as its' capital. Most of the people will start rioting there.

New Mexico will be controlled by the Mexican Government. Maryland will change it's name to East Virginia. New Hampshire will become The Republic of Hampshire. North and South Dakota will join and become a nation called Great Dakota under a constitutional monarchy. South Carolina will start drifting into the Atlantic. Alaska will split into two, the northern half will go to Canada and become a new province called New Saskatchewan, and the southern half will become Old Alaska. Southern Texas will become Dubyaland. The rest will be given back to the Native Americans.

Here's my hilarious prediction for 2010:

Louisiana, New York, and most of Florida will all be underwater. The remains of Florida will be an island that looks like the letter "W".

for New York, you mean New York City, I guess upstate New York (Buffalo, Adirondacks mountains) could join Canada.

I'm not sure where to begin in terms of tearing this theory to shreds, but here are some things that I would likely mention in said tirade.

State lines in many cases, especially in the western U.S., really don't denote major differences culturally.

Eastern Washington and Oregon have much more in common with Idaho than they do with the western parts of their states.

The BosWash megalopolis (15% of the U.S. population on 1% of its land) would be more likely to break off from their respective states than be part of a country with, say South Carolina and Tennessee.

Florida really throws every scenario like this into the fan, as its northern sections are much more southern in character than the southern parts.

Arizona is a heck of a lot more likely to end up under Mexican influence than Georgia and Alabama.

Sorry for the disorganization of my thoughts, I just had to get these out there.
