I was shocked at this news but we lost not only a valuable voice actor in the animated film industry but we also lost a brilliant singer as well Eartha Kitt passed away at the age of 81.

Not to mention Catwoman on the Batman live action series.
While I was never familiar with her singing career she was pretty good actress (especially her role as Yzma in Disney's The Emperor's New School).

My condolences to her family :crying: .

The fact that she was active in the industry up until her death says a lot. She was one of the great ones. R.I.P., Eartha. A lot of women have played Catwoman over the years, but you were the best of them.

Damn, this is a depressing year for deaths. Eartha Kitt's work was amazing, but it's also noteable how she continued her career even to this age. So not only have we lost the voice of Meowth, Maddie Blaustein, we also lose an actress who played Catwoman on the Adam West Batman series only a week or two later. Terrible irony right there. RIP Eartha Kitt.

I didn't even know Eartha Kitt was having health problems.

I loved her voice. There was something sexy, yet wicked about it.

I will always remember her as Lady Eloise from "Boomerang". Marcus, darling :anime:

Today? Wow, of all the well-timed deaths, this is right up there with Charles Schulz. "Santa Baby" came on the radio during the family Christmas feast and it was by someone else, and I remarked "If they're not Eartha Kitt, they shouldn't sing it." I had no idea she'd just passed.

I'll leave a present under the tree....for you.

Omg, she was that lady that voiced Yzma from Emperor's New Groove?!:crying: :crying: This sucks...

Exactly how many famous people have died already this year, besides her and Heath Ledger?

A dastardly amount, for sure.

If you go to Time Magazine's website, I think they had a retrospective on the famous deaths of this year. Over 40 listed, IIRC.

Hmm....I forgot that at the top of my head, I just remembered that Maddie Blaustein died. That's who voiced Meowth in the Pokemon series up until 2006 if nobody knows.

I was suprised to read this as well, I didn't even realize she was in her 80s...she looked younger than that to me, and so healthy too!

The singer of Santa Baby dies at Christmas...that is sad irony there. :crying: :crying: :crying:

You will be missed, Eartha Kitt.

Whoa, that was unexpected, it seems Hollywood is losing a lot of greats this year. I hate to say, but I never really saw her in much (except when she guest starring as Catwoman in the 60's Batman series and providing the voice for Yzma in The Emeperor's New Groove).

This is sad, it's a shame she died on Christmas... I'm sure it's tough to loose a loved one, especially on the holidays. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and loved ones.

RIP Eartha Kitt

Damn! That's just terrible, especially on a day like today. I've only heard her voice on The Emperors New Groove and she did a great job as a villain so she will definitly be missed. R.I.P Eartha.

Honestly I never knew her as anything besides Catwoman on Batman and Yzma on Emperor's New Groove, and the latter is the only thing I ever actively watched her in. She had quite the charming voice, for sure. My condolences to her friends and family.

I live in South Carolina, and we got the news that Eartha, who is originally from SC, had died.

Looks like the original Feline Furies (Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether and Eartha Kitt) have now been broken up with the passing of this beautiful actress named Eartha Kitt. She was a fine performer in both the musical and theatrical genres, and she will damn sure be missed!

Thank you Ms. Kitt for everything that you have done. Now go on and join Cesar, Burgess and Frank in Heaven, and tell them we said hi.

Rest in peace, Eartha darling. WORD UP!!!

Another legend in the entertainment industry has passed away. :( There will never be another "sex kitten." Or another Yzma.

RIP Eartha Kitt. You will be greatly missed. :crying:

You know while, Julie Newmar might be the look of Catwoman that we all remember, it was Eartha Kitt who gave Catwoman her voice, I mean look at Michelle Piefer(sp) in Batman Returns and Adrienne Barbeau in Batman:The Animated Series and you can see the shades of the tone of their vocal performances. Ms. Kitt had the sexy tone that just drove men wild and that was her legacy to one of my all time favorite characters.

I wonder if Adam West got a chance to interview her for his Batman project before her health started to take a turn for the worse.

One of the things the I loved the most about Eartha Kitt was the sense of fun she brought to all the projects she was invovled in, she seemed to bring the best out of everyone.

Rest in Peace Ms. Kitt, and thank you for all the wonderful memories.

Why are all the dope acting legends dying all too damn soon? Charlton Heston, Paul Newman, Heath Ledger, Majel Roddenberry, and now Eartha Kitt?

Like I said before, thank you for everything you've done Eartha. Rest In Peace you sexy mama!

Wow, I can't believe the voice of Yzma has died. That really sucks. She was also the voice of Vexus, the queen of Cluster Prime in the Nickelodeon toon series My Life As A Teenage Robot. I read on the Disney/Pixar discussion forum board that The Emperor's New School has aired its last episode in November prior to her untimely demise. She'll be sadly missed.

This is such a shame. I knew that she was Catwoman on the Adam West Batman series and she voiced Yzma from Emperor's New Groove, which was the only role of the two that I saw, but I never really saw her in anything else. It's so sad to hear about this and I didn't know she was sick either. I hope that she is at peace now and I send positive thoughts for her family and friends at this time of loss.

RIP Mrs. Kitt and thank you for all you gave us.

Though she's gone, she'll never be forgotten.

Although I've always thought "Santa Baby" was the worst Christmas song ever, Eartha Kitt was easily the best thing about The Emperor's New Groove.

I agree with whoever said they hoped Adam West was able to interview her for his upcoming project.
