View Full Version : Disney DTV's you want

Well, seeing as how Disney is constantly slamming us with all of these Direct to Video releases that have pretty pillaged the classics I was wondering - what DTV's would everyone actually like to see the Mouse put out?
Here's my list:
Gargoyles - get Greg to do a couple of new story arcs and give the fans something they really want, a continuation of one of the best cartoons to ever grace the small screen.
Team Atlantis - Once again, get Greg back in and take a lot of the already done episodes and finish them up - releasing the entire first season (including the upcoming "sequel" to Atlantis) while including the Demona crossover in the set.
Darkwing Duck - who wouldn't want to see the duck take on a new menace - using his deetective skills to finally find the villain and take him down.
Gummi Bears - I could deal with a new DTV movie that would bring these bouncing bears back to life.
Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers - give them a new mission at the start of the video and make them reassemble the team. Could be good (can't possibly be as bad as the Rescuers Down Under).
I think all of these would be prime candidates for a new DTV movie and would give Disney a lot of freedom while not having to destroy their classics in the process.
So what are everyone else's picks?

Definately Darkwing Duck. But they would have to keep the voice actors the same.

Those are all good ideas, because unlike the movies, those are easily sequel-ized (except for maybe Atlantis...I haven't seen that). Just make another adventure with the same old team, make sure that it's long enough to justify DTV, and it's set. I would be very interested in Gummi Bears, Duck Tales and Darkwing. They could use DTVs to even bring closure to some of those old series. I remember that Gummi Bears ended with them getting close to discovering the other groups of Gummi Bears, but I don't think that they were ever found.

Duck Tales, without a doubt. I don't want it to be about offspring or anything, though. Just another adventure the way only Uncie Scrooge and the gang could venture.

I rather liked Rescuers Down Under...ok, so I just really like the giant golden eagle :P
Nearly any Disney Afternoon could work as a DTV (if the quality was good enough, one could even call them OVAs!), though Darkwing, Rescue Rangers, Gummi Bears or Gargoyles seem like the best candidates to me, IMHO. Ducktales already had Treasure of the Lost Lamp , which I found to be decent.
Of course, the title should give you a hint to where my loyalties lie.

Like I've said before, I'd kill for a Gargoyles or Darkwing Duck movie... but considering the kind of dreck Disney's D2V department has been churning out lately, I don't want to encourage them.

Definently Gargoyles and Ducktales, as well as Team Atlantis!

Ok, here's a suggestion: Go here and look for any DTV shows... Pretty sure none've hit DVD, so the voting option should be there like it was on Gargoyles.
The point is that the Disney shows have to prove they're in demand in today's market. Because if they are, Disney has a finite amount of content and will make more if it's worth their while.

There have been a couple of TV shows that have hit with DTV's - altho most of them have been done in the same vein as the Spidey one that's slated to hit on April 30th. Mainly they just select a couple of clips from different episodes and say it's a new movie - they did this with the House of Mouse and Recess "Christmas" DTV's that came out last year.
Truthfully though I think that Disney would get a much larger reception to taking some of their TV shows and doing DTV's as compared to a lot of negative press they've been getting for their "classic" sequels. Personally I think that as long as they were all done well Disney would come out looking like a champ - besides I don't think they need to worry to much about their profit's. Chip n' Dale and Scrooge McDuck are very recognizable characters and with the current lack of animated material that comes out on a monthly basis all Disney has to do is slap their name on a product and it's almost guaranteed to sell. Obviously if they were worried about quality and profits we wouldn't be seeing stuff like "Cinderella 2" - a horrible movie that has sold quite a bit because it has the Disney name. Disney has been doing this stuff for years - putting out a lot of sub par products along with one or two good ones, identifying with the good products and raking in the cash for the poorly done ones.
Here's a couple more ideas though:
The Three Muskateers project that has supposedly been in the works at Disney for a while. This project would have Mickey, Goofy and Donald as the Three Muskateers and be an adoptation of the Three Muskateers novel.
Buzz Lightyear - bring Greg (the Gargoyles and Team Atlantis guy) back in to write a full out action, packed adventure for everyone's favorite space ranger.

I wouldn't necessarily want any NEW Disney DTV's, but some of the older ones being released onto DVD would be nice. Like the Ducktales - Treasure of the Lost Lamp movie, the Aladdin sequels, etc.
If they were to do some NEW DTV's then I would want those to be pilots for new TV Series or something similar and not just new movies for old series & movies. I just don't trust Disney enough right now to treat it's old cartoon series/movies with enough respect to get quality DTV's.

I would have to agree with you for the most part joshualane - I would love to see Disney release Treasure of the Lost Lamp and the Aladdin sequels. Also, I would tend to agree that Disney probably wouldn't give these DTV's the quality they would deserve - that's why I think they should spend the extra couple of dollars and bring in the people that made these shows great in the first place. Don't give them a premandated script - just tell them it has to be this long, go to it. I think if Disney finally realized that people are more interested in quality and new ideas then marketing their classics then they would finally be on their way to being the class act studio we always thought they were ask kids growing up, watching their movies. Until that time I guess we can only hope - continuing to shovel through the dung in hopes of finding the occasional pot of gold.

Sequels to their Disney afternoon shows would be great not these crappy sequels we always see.
