Thanks for the news item, Matt, you just made my day. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Home Movies is one of the most sharply written and consistently funny shows on TV, animated or otherwise. Nice to know that quality isn't always rewarded with indifference and cancellation... Now I'm crossing my fingers for a special, all-McGuirk episode...
Mr. X out.

Well said, Mr. X! Home Movies possesses a style and whit that I've found in few other shows, animated or otherwise. Something about it (perhaps it's the retroscripting) offers such organic and human character interaction, while at the same time allowing for such outlandish situations. I'm glad to know it'll be around for another season.

I am glad round three is coming too, we've gone too far into their lives to stop now.
But its funny, who would have thought a small ordered cartoon for a low rated network (UPN) that got cancelled would end up lasting longer than most of the shows on UPN.

As long as Josie stays dead and the writing stays good, cool.

Funny, I was just thinking about what the chances of that happening were less than an hour ago.

The ghost of Josie shall haunt you for your murderous plot, Zorakfan. Beware the baby with the mark of the beast on her forhead. Vengence shall be hers...
Anywho...what wonderful news. So many quality things end up quickly dissapearing before they get a chance to reach their full potential. Why does this happen? Is it because they can't get mainstream support since they don't appeal to the lowest common denominator? Is it because networks only work with numbers and trends? Or is it just that you only notice the loss of something you're a fan of, and rarely take notice of all the other things that dissapear?
I honestly don't know, an I think I'm gonna stop talking now since somebody else already said it much better than I did.
Thank you for your time.

Haha...Josie has no ghost. You simply have to destroy your prey's soul, and then they will have no ghost. It's easy to crush someone's soul too. Right Evil Dr. Reef? (Eeeeeed.....eeeeeed....)

Awesome. I love this show. I would serve Josie with a side of fava beans, I think.

and the josie thing is stupid now. It was surprising the first time, but now it just is really old and extremely not funny.

Sweet. This makes me extremely happy. I'm glad that HM has found its niche and is getting its due. There is justice in this world. My hope is that JOSIE COMES BACK (as opposed to being served), Erik gets more screentime, and a DVD release comes out.

Yes, this is great news of course. Seeing all of our favorite characters in more brand spanking new episodes is amazing nice. Made my week (or more).

Babies don't have souls, they're like vampires, only younger.

Of course. Feeding on the mother's placenta...that's kind of like blood.
I hope she's dead dead. Not UNdead.

I never heard about Josie being DEAD! :( I Hope she comes back. Why do some of you not want her back?
Shnay

She's not dead. Its become sort of a running joke on this board (that some feel has gone on much too long). Basically, since she hasn't been appearing much at all in season 2, people began joking that they had liquidfied her in a blender and served her for dinner.
And, joking aside, I couldn't tell you why some people want her out of the show.

Um...How about because she never actually served any purpose? All she would do is sit in the background and babble in that stupid voice while everybody talked. It would make sense to maybe show her in the season finale just to prove she's still alive, but she's really a pointless character.
And...Well, why shouldn't I be happy about HM Season 3? HALLELUJAH!

I agree that Josie never served any purpose on the show whatsoever. I'm sorry, but were the writers lazy? There are cartoons that show babies in them do not just have to be background decorations. I know they probably couldn't involve her in the stories like Maggie Simpsons or Stewie from Family Guy, but I mean, geez, involve her in more than just a few shots of her making babbling noises. And yeah, that 666 on her forehead was more than just a little unsettling.
Personally, I would not miss the character if she never appeared again. It would be like other sitcoms of the past where certain characters appeared or were mentioned early on in the series but mysteriously disappeared. Such as Donna's sister from That 70's Show. She DID have a sister in the first season. What happened to her?

But it really wasn't a 66... and another one of them.
They were baby hairs. Just hairs... not numbers etched into her forehead.

We know. And we know that she didn't really get killed in a blender. We just love to joke about it!

See, I think Josie did serve a purpose, at least in season 1. Yes, all she did was make gurgling noises, but that's not the point. She didn't add anything to the show by herself, it was more that she was an accessory to Paula's character. It showed Paula was struggling to raise Brenden and Josie on her own.
It makes her money and job troubles more believable when she has a baby to raise as well as a kid who keeps asking for things like a fish eye lens.
Well, that's my opinion anyway. Somebody's gotta defend the baby (and no, I'm not doing it out of fear of demonic reprocussions).

She's usually not really a character at all -- more of a prop. Except for, of course, "Don't Stick Marbles Up Your Nose", an excellent episode.

There's more to it than that. She's part of the atmosphere. It' s hard to say how, but she increases the overall feel of this tiny family, Paula, Brendan, and Josie, trying to stick together. She added SOMEthing to the show, it just wasn't immediately obvious. I miss her prescence, and I think she's one of the things from Season 1 which should have popped up more in season 2, along with Erik and the sandbox.

Oh yeah? OH YEAH? Well, behold my new avatar! :D
Ok, gotta keep this thing on topic...gotta resist talking about the "devil child"....
Do you think the quality of the series will be sustained or even improved upon in season three?
Zorakfan
03-10-2002, 10:47 PM
Maybe. If they tone down on the Walter & Perry, Josie, and wierd Deli owning man. (Not so much deli-owning man. He's cool, but another 'prop')
By the way, nice avatar Calhoun. I see you must have performed a photo ghosting to show Josie's TRUE colors...

I think if they could somehow strike a balance between the more serial nature of Season 2 (a good idea I think, cause it equals character development) with the more simplistic premises and characters in Season 1 (generally less cluttered) then the show would be a lot better. And put Josie back in, for the love of God. She can be used as a great plot device when they try (see: Mortages and Marbles)

I don`t know if this is in any way relevant (I`m tired, so everything I say is going to sound inane. I like that word. Inane...) but when you arent looking at the screen, home movies sounds exactly like a radio show. The way the sound is recorded and the way the characters talk over top of eachother, the conversation is just very realistic... I think that`s a big part of the charm. It`s great to hear that it`s run has been extended!
When AS premiered, nearly everyone I knew seemed to think that home movies was a "crap" show and had no place on cartoon network. Now it`s grown on all of them and they love it to death. Cartoon Network just seems to have a magical midas touch... they infect whatever they get their hands on with popularity like some sort of special leprocy that infects television shows instead of people, and instead of giving the shows limbs that fall off it gives them good ratings. What was I originally talking about?

That is because it came from a crap network! Personally, the series took some time to grow on me.
