While this animated program was announced ages ago, I didn’t hear of it until recently and searches on this forum yielded no results. Apparently, “Kid vs. Kat” is going to air on Disney XD; it was originally scheduled to air on Toon Disney as part of Jetix, as was “Jimmy Two Shoes”, but the name change doesn’t seem to have affected any previously negotiated deals. Of course, since Disney practically owns Jetix, it makes it easier for them to air Jetix’s shows on their network.

http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n147/The_Huntsman/Cartoons/kid_vs_cat_jetix.gifKid vs. Kat is about the exaggerated conflict between a demonically malevolent cat and the beleaguered ten-year-old boy to whom it has taken a demented dislike. When Coop’s spoiled little sister Millie brings home Kat, a stray kitty of mysterious origin, his idyllic life is turned upside-down. It’s obvious to Coop that Kat wants to annihilate him. The problem is he has no evidence to prove it as by the time his Dad comes onto the smoking, debris-littered scene, all evidence pointing to Kat is gone.

Here is the episode summary for the first episode, for those who wish to learn more about what the series will be like.

Let The Games Begin: When his little sister Millie bring home a strange hairless cat, ten year old Coop Burtonburger discovers that his once happy life will never be the same again.

Night Of The Zombie Cat: After Coop defies his dad and stays up late in order to watch a horror movie, he finds that his home has been invaded by an army of zombie cats

Ho-hum:yawn: The episode summaries in the spoiler tag: These storieshave been done before but better. The one thing I like is the fact the show's premise is similar to Tom and Jerry. I wouldn't mind seeing the characters in animated shorts but I don't think that this series will last long on Disney XD if the channel acts like the original Disney channel and kills the show after its second season.

If anything, I believe people should be happy that Disney XD is even going to have new animated content. A lot of people were concerned that the network would be full of live-action and old leftovers from Jetix’s library, but with this and “Jimmy Two Shoes”, the network is at least making an effort.

Meh. If Disney is trying not to impress me, they're doing a good job so far. Kid vs Kat sounds like a one-joke premise that will probably get stale and tired really quickly. Plus, based on what I've seen and read, this appears to be yet another motherless TV family for Disney. Pass.

I would like some new content but nothing that we haven't seen before. I know that the entertainment biz is running out of ideas but I just feel like Disney XD haven't tried hard enough to create new animated programs. They instead rely on old basics to set up a premise but then the episodes become mediocre.

Oh well, it can't be any worse than Captain Flamingo.

This doesn't sound like anything I'd go out of my to watch, but I agree that if nothing else, it's good to see that Disney hasn't entirely given up on producing original animated programming for their channel.

Now if they could just come up with some better concepts...

This show sounds so weird. I might have to watch an episode before I can judge it.

I'll give it a chance, but it looks a bit Tom and Jerry-like, and looks like it'll have a bunch of stories I've heard before.

I found this faux trailer (http://vimeo.com/1859029) that was created for the series; I can only assume that it was what they showed at MIPCOM or another event of that sort. I figure this could allow people to get a better understanding of what the series is like. I also found the title sequence online, but it appears to have been uploaded by a fan and I’m not sure what our rules are exactly when it comes to linking to title sequences. I know bumpers and commercials are fine, but a title sequence isn’t either of those.

Also, I found the episode summary for the second episode, for those who are interested.

Trespassers Will Be Persecuted: Old Lady Munson has banned Coop from her yard; an act which Kat exploits in hopes of getting him into trouble.

Oh Me-Oh Meow!: When Kat is forced to wear a conditioning collar in order to make his behavior more tolerable, he decides to force it on Coop instead.

The current trend of Disney animation would seem to be taking 1-joke premises and turning them into endless series. If this and Jimmy Two-Shoes are truly the best original animated programming that Disney XD has to offer, then this channel is in trouble.

It just seems like something that would only be good for a single episode, but wouldn't be funny time after time and would lose it's sting after a couple of episodes.

I know how hard it is to be original and try to think of something that's never been done before, but neither of these ideas seem to have any kind of staying power and will be quickly gone and forgotten. Kid vs Kat even more so than Jimmy Two-Shoes. At least the latter has the "trippy" factor going for it.

But as it's been noted before, these cartoons weren't made for me. I'm not in Disney XD's target demographic, and haven't been for some time, so it matters not what I think of the series. If kids 12 and under will be watching it, that's all that Disney will care about.

“Jimmy Two Shoes” was the top rated series at MIPCOM, which had 1,143 animated programs submitted. It beat out “Batman: The Brave And The Bold” and numerous other animated programs, so it must be doing something right. I understand where you’re coming from, but really, you could say the same thing about most animated programs. Of course, when it comes to “Kid vs. Kat”, I’m a bit more understanding of your criticism; the plot has been done before. Quite recently, in fact, with My Goldfish Is Evil (http://www.cbc.ca/mygoldfishisevil/). However, I’m willing to catch a few episodes before I cast my judgment.

I'll probably try to catch some of both shows, just to say that I've seen them, although Kid vs Kat really doesn't sound like something that I'd be interested in, and it certainly doesn't sound like something that I'd want to watch on a weekly basis. Mind you, I initially felt the same way about Rocko's Modern Life and Duckman when each series was only being previewed, to update the story both of which are currently among my all time favorite TV shows, so you never know.

As for Jimmy Two-Shoes, given the positive reception that the series has (apparently) received, it may play better than it reads, but I just plain don't like cartoons that deal with the whole heaven/hell thing. It has nothing to do with my spiritual beliefs or anything like that. I just find most of them to be disturbing and unsettling.

I had to turn the trailer off half way through. I might try to watch an episode but I don't have high hopes for it.

The trailer was okay but the cat gets to stay with the family just because a girl's cries can make the ground shake and cause the end of the world?

If the animation style was different, then maybe. But overall, the trailer was pretty interesting.

I did not watch the trailer, but just from reading the description of it, I too will not watch this show. Yuck!

Man, this whole show will be 'Kid never catches a break' won't it?
