Never seen the show but sounds interesting from what I heard.

I am somewhat confuse is it the 4KIDS version or is it a new dub?

Edit- Reading through ANN forum it seem it is a new dub. However they seem to have change the names of main characters to Natalie (Nagisa) and Hanna (Honoka).

So...is Toei doing their own dub of the show?

Either way, pretty interesting. Wonder if it'll ever show up in the United States.

Huh, that's quite a surprise. Good. It's at least as deserving of TV as any show of this genre. I'm sure some will hate the name changes, but Sailor Moon did it too and got by just fine.

Yeah, but we had lower standards back then, and barely anyone had access to the original versions...Not that I have a problem with these changes, just saying.

But awesome that PreCure is finally getting an actual english dub and is airing somewhere. I doubt we'll see it pop up here in the US, but you never know.

Man, is the only way anime is going to get on TV these days going to involve editing it and Americanizing it like it was in the mid-late 90's?

How long until we regress completely to that point?

I'm happy PC is finally getting on TV, but there better be uncut DVDs in the deal.

I wouldn't be too hasty to judge. I'm all for keeping integrity, but this is a kid's show being shown to kids and I can deal with giving the girls names that viewers will relate to. That particular change doesn't necessarily mean that there will be substantial editing as if it were Yu-Gi-Oh.

I'm surprised this news hasn't been reported on this site's headlines. Seriously, this is big news.

No, considering its airing on YTV, it will have a Canadian dub cast, so it will either be dubbed Vancouver or Toronto.

Anime isn't doing so hot anymore in North America, so its kinda lost some clout here. The only North American outfit Toei could sell this series to is a Canadian kids cable channel, so that series doesn't have a huge demand. At this point, beggars can't be chosers.

FUNimation could still get the DVD distribution rights or something else. And if this is like Toon Disney's deal with Toei Animation for "Digimon" then maybe YTV just has the broadcasting rights and Toei Animation is in-charge of the English dub. It could just as easily be from either America or Canada.

I dunno if premiering on a Canadian kids' channel is reflective of how big the demand is, YTV is a pretty big station. Shows usually only premiere on one station/region first and others follow later.

Well, YTV is a huge station as far as Canada goes, so this exposure will be significant. I just hope YTV has the sense to not put it on Bionix, since it's very unlikely the series would find success with a younger audience there.

That's really why I'm so excited about the fact that this series got picked up. How long has it been since there was last a kids show on the air that didn't involving fighting monsters or cards? In all this stigmatization of localizing anime, people seem to forget how important it is to keep good programming on the air that reaches the 6-11s. In YTV's case this could work perfectly, since it could be a reflection of Sailor Moon's success in the 90s. Of course, it could just as easily flop. We'll see.

I've never seen Pretty Cure. Is it as... well, is it like Sailor Moon? If so, I think I'll pass; that stuff doesn't appeal to me. But if it ever does come to the US, it'd be interesting to see how a girl's cartoon fares these days.

It's like Sailor Moon except with less love and more butt-kicking.

The first season was directed by the same guy who did Dragonball Z :). They fight bad guys primarily with martial arts, not special attacks (although they do always end up finishing them off with a special attack).

The animation's also surprisingly fluid in PreCure. The storyboarding, at points, looks like it belongs in Bebop or Champloo, not a magical girl show. I think YTV might be able to do a lot with this, if the amount of localization is nominal. Canada's a diverse enough place that names like Nagisa shouldn't throw anyone for a loop, and there really isn't any content in the show that should raise eyebrows. Just put it out straight, make money, use it as an opening for other shoujo series.

Personally, I'm ecstatic about this news. It's been a long time since we've finally seen a good magical girl anime and Pretty Cure seems like just the right show to do it.

I'm hoping that YTV is going to try the same approach like they've done with Sailor Moon back in '95: premiere and run the show in the lunch hour with the encore in the after school block. To this very day, I consider that to be the greatest broadcasting decision that YTV has ever done.

YTV is a pretty small pond though, let's face it the Canadian market is vastly smaller then the American one.

Anyway I doubt Funi is involved, if Toei sold it YTV first, they would insist upon a Canadian dub, so they can write off the series as Canadian content and get government funding.

If you don't want to watch the dub version the show is already available uncut on CrunchyRoll. They got 8 episodes out so far.

I just recently got YTV too :p however I haven't watch PreCure since the third episode I think so I dunno if I'd be a loyal viewer.

If in Canada

Guessing either Nevlana or Cookie Jar entertainment will do the dub version.

Ooh, sounds interesting. And having the director of DBZ just makes it sound even better. Guess I'm gonna have to check it out then.
