View Full Version : "WWE Armageddon" 2008 Prediction Thread
The Penguin
12-12-2008, 10:04 PM
The last WWE pay-per-view of the year, Armageddon is just two days away! As always, your predictions must be made by Sunday at 8 p.m. ET and cannot be edited after that time.
Armageddon has six scheduled matches, so everyone's total will be out of six. If you refuse to pick on principle, Kippy has no clue who you want, or you just plain miss it, that is the end for your pick.
World Heavyweight Championship
Champion John Cena vs. Chris Jericho
WWE Championship
Champion Edge vs. Triple H vs. Jeff Hardy
Batista vs. Randy Orton
ECW Champion Matt Hardy vs. Vladimir Kozlov
Belfast Brawl
Finlay with Hornswoggle vs. Mark Henry with Tony Atlas
Intercontinental Title Tournament Finals (Number One Contendership)
Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk
Please remember this thread encompasses anything to do with predictions. Should you feel the need to tally up your score, "challenge" people, or tell the story of the "match for the championship" that is going to fit in here, not the talkback thread for the event which will of course be posted Sunday.

1. JOHN CENA retains. Its obviously much too early for Cena to lose his championship after winning it just last month.
2. EDGE retains. Same as Cena.
3. Hmmm, this could actually go both ways. Batista like it or not needs a win, but Randy Orton just formed the Legacy not too long ago plus he may be next in line for Cena's title. So I'll go with BATISTA via DQ.
4. KOZLOV wins. This wont set up Kozlov with the ECW title. But rather Kozlov getting the requisite Big Man push at the Royal Rumble.
5. MARK HENRY wins.
6. CM PUNK wins.

Cena over Jericho. Too soon for Cena to lose, and it would be ridiculous, if not also redundant, to put it back on Jericho.
Batista over Orton. Randy won on Monday, so payback is nigh.
Mysterio over Punk. This was hard to call, but remember, too, that Punk is 1/2 of the tag champs (and the tag titles won't be defended on the card). Just apply the opposite logic, considering that Regal endorsed Punk at the start of the tournament.
Kozlov over M. Hardy. I still believe Vlad may be pointed toward the ECW title as a consolation prize after last month. Can't see Matt being the one to end the streak.
Henry over Finlay. Mizark makes it two in a row, and if I'm right about Kozlov long term, I smell a face turn for Henry, setting up a modern day cold war.
Edge over J. Hardy & Triple H. Again, too soon for a title switch, but IMPO, Edge shouldn't be champion. I'm thinking that if Christian returns, this would be the spot for that to happen, similar to last year, but subbing Christian for Hawkins & Ryder.
Personally, I'd rather see Hunter regain it and be the one to drop it to Jeff at Mania, but let's see how long the lying chump can string this out.

1. Cena retains, no question about it.
2. Edge retains. I think he'll hold onto the title until Mania, where he'll drop it to Jeff - who I think will win the Royal Rumble.
3. Batista wins. I'm split on it but I'm going with him because Orton's team won at Survivor Series.
4. Vladimir Kozlov wins. It's non-title and Matt is not going to be the one to end the streak, so easy pick here.
5. Finlay wins. Hard choice here but Mark Henry got the win on Tuesday, and it's no DQ so the shillelagh will likely be the finisher here.
6. Rey Mysterio wins. I think we're getting Punk and Kofi vs. Miz and Morrison, so.
7 (just in case). Team McCool. I'm expecting there to be build-up to the Michelle McCool/Maria angle for the Diva's title, so it's only logical for one of those two to get the pinfall.

Meltzer is reporting that a Santa's Helpers diva tag match has been added. Penguin, Kipster, do you want to amend and add this match? No. Once the thread is posted it is extremely rare to make any additions to it. I tried it once when just two or three picks had been made and even that was a chore to make it fair to everyone. We had six matches on Friday so everyone's total will be out six.

Cena Sometimes it pays to be a "pandering, patronizing sycophant" and this is one of those times. Sorry, Jericho.
WWE Championship
Champion Edge vs. Triple H vs. Jeff Hardy
Edge This one is a tough call, but it's always hard to bet against Edge (even if you want to).
Batista vs. Randy Orton
I think what this match really comes down to is who you think will get the World Title shot at the Royal Rumble. I guess I'll with Orton.
ECW Champion Matt Hardy vs. Vladimir Kozlov
Kozlov Without the ECW Title on the line, I'm confident the streak continues.
Belfast Brawl
Finlay with Hornswoggle vs. Mark Henry with Tony Atlas
Henry I can only hope. The Brawl promotes Hornswoggle and Atlas being involved, but with the shillelagh being a legal part of the match, its effectiveness should go down.
Intercontinental Title Tournament Finals (Number One Contendership)
Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk
Mysterio Punk may have just lost his belt, but with Rey as the underdog in a match with Regal just sounds more interesting.

I'm a little ticked at the WWE right now. I picked Rey Mysterio to win the IC #1 contender's match solely because CM Punk was half the world tag team champions. Instead I learn before the match that CM Punk and Kofi Kingston lost to The Miz and John Morrison on Saturday night while reading the results of the match. I hate it when they change a title at a house show and basically alter the entire PPV because of it.

I came away 4-2. They really blew Hardy winning the title IMO, should have been the main event of Wrestlemania!

I'm shocked they're finally giving Jeff a title run. He deserves it with all the hard work and the moves he's made. I'm just surprised they made Edge a transitional champion.

Orton!?! I picked Orton!?!
I had the best opportunity all year to go undefeated, to end the last PPV of 2008 6-0 and I blew it. I thought Edge was going to keep the belt till WrestleMania (Like everyone else) and I was in a hurry today so I just copy pasted Majin's picks and forgot to changed Orton to Batista!!
In the words of Ron Simmons

3-3. I guess they had to give Jeff the title to pacify the haters after the Survivor Series. Edge should never have won then, and got exactly what was coming to him. I guess Kozlov's back in the mix after beating Matt.
I guess also that the plan all along was for CM Punk to win the tournament, but don't you think they should've found a way to have him & Kofi drop the titles before Saturday? Like, this again exemplifies the lack of forward thinking in the creative office.

Thanks again and be sure to return next year to make your predictions for the Royal Rumble!
The Intercontinental Title Champion is decided by a calculating who has the highest percentage of correct guesses over the three most recent pay-per-views. The Heavyweight Title score awards points for correct guesses (no penalty for wrong guesses) for the six most recent pay-per-views. The points system for the heavyweight title is weighted such that more recent pay-per-views are worth more points. Click here (http://www.geocities.com/kippy925/armageddon08.xls) to view the spreadsheet used to make these calculations. Please, please check my work!

Whoa! I'm shocked. I knew I was hot the last 5 PPV's, but I didn't expect it to propel me to the IC Title! I'll try and get the tag standings up a little later, but I sense great things for both Spike and myself within the TWE in 2009. Sooner rather than later we'll be the ones owning all the gold!!!
