This is the talkback thread for Oliver Postgate, "Bagpuss" and "Noggin the Nog" Creator, Passes Away at 83 (http://news.toonzone.net/article.php?ID=27481) .

Oh man, what a piece of news to hear. The Postgate and Firmin series have been personal favourites of mine since I became a full-fledged animation fan, even the ones I never saw as a kid.

Shame that, despite their popularity in their home country (Bagpuss plushes are a common sight on car dashboards 'round these parts) they're kind of underappreciated by the animation community. Honestly, they're easily up there with the best of Hanna-Barbera in my mind.

Read his comments on the current state of kids' TV here (http://www.oliverpostgate.co.uk/archive1.html).

I remember Noggin. Wait, is he the one that looked like a clown because that might be Noddy.

Noddy was the stop-motion character who looked like a clown; Noggin the Nog was the cut-out Norseman.

A sad day for all concerned. "The Clangers" is an absolute classic that has inspired shows to this day. British animation was enriched enormously by this splendid fellow.
