View Full Version : Batman/Superman/Beyond Trivia Quiz

The success of the Quote Quiz threads got me thinking that bringing back another classic game might be fun, so allow me to present the Batman/Superman/Beyond Trivia Quiz! :)
The rules are simple (and basically the same as the Quote Quizzes). One person (and please, one person only!) posts a trivia question, and the first person to get the right answer gets to post the next question. Any trivial fact from Batman: The Animated Series, The New Batman Adventures, The New Superman Adventures, and Batman Beyond is fair game. Questions from the animated comics (Batman Adventures, Batman & Robin Adventures, Superman Adventures, Gotham Adventures) are allowed, but please keep them to a minimum (not all of us read the comics :)). Mainstream comics, movies, Justice League, Justice League Adventures, and Smallville are out.
That said, I'll kick off with the following question:
In the B:TAS episode Night of the Ninja, what martial arts belt rank did Dick Grayson hold?
Have fun! :)

I think it was green. If I'm correct, someone please post a query for me.

Your are correct. And here's The Penguin posting a query for you:
What was the name of the theme park tycoon that busted Mr. Freeze out of prison in BTAS's "Deep Freeze"?
Anubis C. Soundwave

Grant Walker.
If I am correct, please highlight the spoiler block for my question.
How many children does Ra's Al Ghul have, and what are their names?
The Dark Knight

I think his only two children mentioned on the show were Talia and Jonah Hex. If I'm right but not online then someone else can post the next question.

Hey, wait, weren't Talia and Arkady Duvall the known children Ra's al Ghul has had? :)
As for the famous poets in BTAS, the only one I know of that Batman himself quotes at some length is William Blake and his poem, "The Tiger".
I can't recall if he quoted any Lewis Carroll, though; Jervis certainly did.
OK, so here's my question:
[b]What is the address of Wayne Manor? I'm not looking for the street name, but, rather, the numercial address?[b]

Hey, wait, weren't Talia and Arkady Duvall the known children Ra's al Ghul has had?
Oh crap, you're right! How did I get Jonah Hex and Arkady Duvall mixed up?!
Oh well, too late now, I guess.
As for the poets, another one was Robert Frost (from I Am the Night).
What is the address of Wayne Manor? I'm not looking for the street name, but, rather, the numercial address?
I don't know about anybody else, but I don't understand the question. What's a numerical address?

Alright, by the "numerical address", I'll use Sesame Street as an example. 123 Sesame Street. The numerical part, of course, is the 123 part, not the street name. I know I didn't make it very clear - which isn't much help, since this is a tough question. :-)
Alright, I'll give you the answer, it's 1007. I believe it's in HEART OF STEEL.
Let's do another one. Where does Poison Ivy get incarcerated first? Arkham, Stonegate, or elsewhere?

Poison Ivy was first imprisoned in Gotham Penitentiary, which I think was later renamed to Stonegate.

Ehhh, close enough, I guess. Poison Ivy was obvious, and yeah, Harley was in the photo album, too. Look really closely and you'll also see that much-reused picture of Bruce Wayne and Harvey Dent shaking hands (from PRETTY POISON) in the photo album as well - so that's the three.
So Mr. Powers, the questioning is in your hands.

I know I'm guilty of this too sometimes  , but please folks, when you get a question right, post a new one promptly. Just a day or two delay can drop this thread off the front page and into oblivion.

Hi torifel! Welcome to the game! :)
Your question wasn't a repeat, so don't worry. The answer is Selina Kyle.
Next question:

P.S: Just so we don't have multiple questions floating around (my fault, I broke my own rule, sorry :( ), Gaff Morgan drove a Studebaker.

The map to the cave on Mount Kajiki (sp?) where Yoru Sensei's great-great-great-great grandfather hid the scroll containing the only set of instructions for Ki Bano Hoko (sp?), the incredibly dangerous style of martial art he had developed. Is that specific enough? ;)
P.S: Kiayi (sp?) was not Yoru Sensei's daughter. She was his star student, and like a daughter to him, but they were not related. :)

Well, for starters, there was Rocco and that other paunchy guy (not sure if his name was ever called out loud) from "Joker's Favor".
Then Captain Clown (robot thug) in "The Last Laugh"
Donner & Blitzen in "Christmas with the Joker"
Then there was Murph from "The Man Who Killed Batman"
Rocco and that other guy returned in "Harley & Ivy"
Then Vinny, Knuckles, & Kowalski in "Make 'Em Laugh"
Rocco and his pal showed up in TNBA in "Old Wounds"
And finally, we had Lar, Mo, & Curl
TimTwoFace
03-23-2002, 07:44 PM
Yeah, I think those are all of 'em. The two paunchy guys (from JOKER'S FAVOR, HARLEY & IVY, and OLD WOUNDS) were Rocco and Henshaw. I'm not sure if either of them are spelled that way, but that's how it sounds phonetically.
(So...did I spell "phonetically" right, now? I'm not sure.)

In "Joker's Favor"
When Joker noticed the bomb explode from outside, he shouted out to his henchmen.
I thought he said: "Rocco!!! Head sharp! I smell a Bat!!!"
I thought he said "Head sharp." so Rocco would be on his toes.
So he actually shouted: "Rocco!!! Henshaw!!! I smell a Bat!!!"

Name all of the old villians(from Bruce's time) seen or mentioned on Batman Beyond(not counting Bruce Wayne's artifacts in the BatCave).
TimTwoFace
03-26-2002, 12:44 AM
NOT COUNTING the artifacts in the Batcave, these villains have either appeared or have been mentioned on BATMAN BEYOND:
OBVIOUS CHOICES:
-The Joker
-Harley Quinn
-Mr. Freeze
-Bane
-Ra's Al Ghul
-Talia
-I GUESS that Derek Powers would still count, right?
MENTIONED:
-Catwoman
-The original Royal Flush Gang
I don't know if you are going to include the following categories, so...
IF WE ARE INCLUDING THE TRAINING SCENARIO IN "Terry's Friend Dates a Robot"...
-The Riddler
-Two-Face
-Killer Croc
IF WE INCLUDE THE VILLAINS SHOWN IN THE "Out of the Past" PLAY:
-The Joker
-The Penguin
-Two-Face
-Catwoman
-Poison Ivy
-Harley Quinn
I THINK I'm right here, so I'll come up with a new question:
Of all the villains in the rogue's gallery, which one has visited the Peregrenator's Club most often?
-Tim
M'ral
03-26-2002, 01:56 AM
Harley Quinn. She visited the place twice--once, with Joker in Joker's Favor, then with Poison Ivy in Harley & Ivy.
We all know that Batman studied and mastered many styles of martial arts, but in the animated continuity, he's only ever specifically mentioned one style. Name it.

I don't think that the Joker killed anyone in any episodes of BTAS until it made the switch over to the WB. (In fact, the only people I think they let die during the course of an episode were John and Mary Grayson.)
That said, my first Joker victim will be Salvatore Valestra in MASK OF THE PHANTASM.
(If you want the first person he killed, it's Carl Beaumont, but if you want the first person we SEE that he killed, it's Sal "the Wheezer" Valestra.)

In the episode Joker's Wild, when Bruce Wayne is playing cards with the Joker, he replaces a card in his hand with one from his sleeve. What game are they playing, and what is the sum total of Bruce's hand before he replaces the card?
TimTwoFace
04-01-2002, 01:24 AM
The game was Blackjack, but I don't know the sum total of the cards in Bruce's hand...but it's under 21! I know that. That's why he smugly says, "Hit me". Oh Bruce, you sly dog, you.

.. and if i'm correct, bruce replaced the 9 with an 8 to help clench the victory...
M'ral
04-02-2002, 03:05 AM
Bingo (or should I say, Blackjack)! Bruce was dealt a 9 and a 3, sum total 12. Joker actually sent him over 21 by dealing him a king, but our hero couldn't stand to lose even a card game to his arch-enemy and cleverly switched his 9 for an 8 from the deck up his sleeve! How he managed to fit an entire deck of 52 cards up his sleeve AND choose exactly the card he wanted without tipping off the Joker remains a mystery. :)

Maybe I'm just tired. The first thing that came to mind was "Rose Cafe", but obviously, that's waaaayyyy off. :P

I'm hoping somebody will beat me to it because I don't expect to get it anytime soon! :D
EDIT
Oh, wait a minute, "rock crystal" was mentioned in A Bullet for Bullock! Yay! One down, one to go! :)
EDIT
I think heroin was mentioned somewhere too, in one of the Rupert Thorne episodes, but I can't remember which one. Argh!!
murmur
04-16-2002, 03:34 PM
I think if any drug was mentioned in a Rupert Thorne episode, it would be the one where Arnold Stromwell is on the road to reform. His kid is in critical condition due to some drug or another. I really don't know for sure though or what drug (plus I sadly forgot the ep. name). Someone still has to make a solid answer...
Alternate answers not yet given to old questions:
The first Tiny Toons magazine was first featured way back in Nothing to Fear. A security guard is lazily reading it as the Scarecrow slips by and gasses him.
There is indeed a Shakespeare quote in Batman:TAS. It's at the end of Prophecy of Doom. Bruce says "As the Bard wrote, 'Our fate...lies not in our stars but in ourselves.'" "The Bard" is a historical nickname for Shakespeare. The quote itself is from Julius Ceaser, in one of Cassius' monologues (Act 1, Scene 3, I believe). The original quote is actually "Our fate, dear Brutus, lies not in our stars, but in ourselves." Interestingly, Cassius is generally considered villainous in the play, and the quote was given in a rebellious context. In Shakespeare's times, people did believe that outside influences such as astrology controlled human behavior. Nostromos would have done much better in Victorian England! (I hope that tangent is still considered indirectly on topic...)

I'll give ya all a hint or two on the drug question
Venom is not a commonly traded street drug so that's not what I'm looking for.
Somone, not saying who, had the right episode but the wrong drug.
The other episode that has yet to be brought up... It's not a popular episode. It was once referred to by the creators as "A good Tuesday show. Not something you want to start or end the week on, but it passes the time."

No, you said Batman, not Bruce Wayne... Superman was in the Batsuit, so I would say that counts as Batman... I emphasized that in my answer... either way... it really doesn't matter... it really depends how you look at it. From Bane's point of view, I'd say he fought Batman twice. The Casino is located in a specific part of Gotham, or, more specifically, on a specific boardwalk. What's the name of the boardwalk on which the casino was located?

Okay, it's the Gotham *something* Boardwalk

That's not her sister...
That character's name is "Toby."
In the comic book series, she is Maggie Sawyer's *uh-hum* "long-time companion."
I thought it was one of the nicer and more subtle "adult" touches added to any of the animated series. And it held true to it's comic book reference.

Technically, you still got the answer right, BatChick. You knew who Maggie's two visitors were. Besides, nowhere in the episode do they come out and say that Toby is Maggie's lesbian lover, that was a strictly a nod to the readers of the comic book.

:D :D :D Are you kidding me????!! I have never had a turn in one of these quizzes. Just luck I guess. My blood type is O+. I guess I have a lot in common with Nightwing. Here's mine:
3-Part Question:
How did Superman know that Batman was once under mind control, who did he ask for help, and where did he find Batman?
M'ral
05-02-2002, 07:02 PM
Part 1: He and Robin figured it out after Roxy Rocket informed Superman that Batman was missing.
Part 2: First Robin, then I guess you could count Mad Hatter too.
Part 3: Technically, he didn't find Batman. He found Bruce Wayne in the launch bay at Wayne Aerospace, where he was preparing to launch Brainiac's ship while under the alien's control.
All of the above happened in the episode Knight Time.
Since I can't come up with anything better at the moment, I'll stay in my current vein. :D
What is Barbara Gordon's blood type?

I'm not sure on this one, but it's whatever Nora Fries' blood type is...isn't it "AB"? I'm not sure. Come on, I just bought the Sub-Zero DVD today, I should've paid closer attention!
I won't ask another question 'til M'Ral gets back to us. ;-Y

That's the one! Barbara Gordon and Nora Fries share the same rare blood type, AB...well, technically, AB-, but I won't nitpick. ;) Just be glad I didn't get into her height, weight, address, etc, which were also featured in Sub-Zero...not yet, anyway! :D
Anyway, the floor's yours, Tim!

This might be considered nitpicking, also, but I don't think that Superman learned about the actual mind-control until he discovered the nanites at Bruce Wayne's office.

Sorry for my absence. I agree with toddman. Again, this may be nitpicking but Superman didn't discover the mind control until after discovering the nanites on the phone. I intended that to be part 1 with the Mad Hatter being part 2. Part 3 is technically Bruce Wayne indeed, sorry. :D

Oddily, they have four -- I always thought that was weird, I figured it was an animation fluke. I'm pretty sure that this is right, so here's the new question (ignore it if I'm wrong):
Bruce usually leaves two red roses at his parents' grave and in Crime Alley, name an episode where he leaves roses of a different color.

The Batman Beyond episode Ace in the Hole. I had to play that scene over five or six times before I was satisfied that my eyes were not deceiving me and yes, indeed, the roses were white.
I can't think of a question at the moment, so somebody else please post one for me. :)

Are we sure Napier wasn't going to post a question? He might of just been waiting for confirmation that his guess was correct before making a question. It's really more polite to wait at least a day, or ask the person if they're going to post a question or not, instead of just assuming they aren't. But those are just my thoughts.

I believe that was in On Leather Wings, in the scene when Harvey Bullock, Harvey Dent, Commissioner Gordon, and Mayor Hill are discussing what to do about Batman. I'm not sure though, it's been a long time since I've seen that episode, so I'll wait for confirmation.

Fox censors wouldn't allow Timm and co. to continue using a direct smoking reference just as they wouldn't let them show Batman's blood. But in both cases, they didn't force them to change the pilot. If you want to be careful though you should probably wait for additional conformation because I don't actually remember seeing it; I just don't see how it could be any other way.

You might be right about the cigar thing (even though I can't remember if Bullock had a cigar in "On Leather Wings" or not). Fox did let them give the Penguin a cigarette and cigarette holder in all of his appearances, although it was never lit.
The blood thing is a little different situation from what I remember. Before the first episode had aired, there was an interview with members of the creative team in "Comics Scene" magazine. They talked about the fact that the Fox censors gave them a "blood quota" they could use throughout the course of the season. They said they used almost all of it in the first episode. It seems like they used more than that though, since no blood at all showed up in any of the other 84 episodes that aired on Fox.

He was in the Ace Chemical Factory ("Beware the Creeper") and had gone there to film a segment on the 7th anniversary of Joker's transformation. Ryder was then flushed down the drain and emerged from the sewers.

No, sorry. Maybe the way that Terry broke it will help. He broke it with his head. His hard, hard head. In fact in this episode Terry took such a beating there should have been enough strawberry jam for everyone.

Sorry, no on both counts. *sniffle* I hadn't thought it would be quite this hard (the statue was very distinctive and in "Judgment Day" was the setting for most of Act III).
Hints. Hmm. If I give you the villain it would give you the episode. But how many villains are physically capable of breaking something so big? (The statue, not Terry's head) :D

Alrighty, here's my Q - Despite Robin's assertation in TNBA's Knight Time that Bruce Wayne never ever smiled, he did many a times in BTAS, even when in costume. Name 5 occurences that Batman (not while he's in Bruce Wayne persona) smiled in BTAS. (I've found 15)
*note, this does not include times Batman is in costume but speaking as Bruce Wayne, say, over the phone or something; but it does include times Batman isn't in costume, but not pretending to be Bruce.

~Barb
Borg4of3

My list isn't complete, so I'll have to recheck those; but Beware the Grey Ghost counts - Bats smiles when he's showing Trent his own collection of Grey Ghost memoribilia, and so does Christmas with the Joker, as he's holding Joker from falling into the vat. And Make em' Laugh, as Joker's falling with his pants down and boxers showing :p (who couldn't smile at that) - Just to help me recheck, if possible, could you be more specific of when it happens in the ep?
Barb Gordon
05-22-2002, 01:13 AM
Ummm, no, not really. I was just making educated guesses, lol. I felt pretty sure that three of the eps I listed had Batman smiling somewhere in them, I could recall scenes where it would happen. But as for the other two I listed, I was just assuming/hoping that he could have perhaps smiled in someway in them.

Heyo - an update!
Batman also smiled in If You're So Smart, when Robin comes out of nowhere and knocks away a Riddler goon when they're fighting in the flaming Wasteland club. But Harlequinade, even tho it got tons of laughs from me, didn't have one smile from the Dark Knight (in fact, the strongest response from him was beating his head on a table trying to black out :p )
So, one more to go!
Barb Gordon
05-22-2002, 01:43 AM
lol, and that's the one ep I thought for sure had him smiling! Though I remember him beating his head trying to black out quite well. Okay, I've got one more guess, even though I'm thinking of on episode while at the same time thinking of the wrong title. Anyhoo, let's try: The Laughing Fish

Pretty close, Tim. It actually was Animal Act, but not Tim Drake. It was that scene when Dick is sitting in his loft flipping through the photo album of pictures from the circus. Batman comes up behind him, to which Dick angrily responds "You could knock."
Since you got the episode right, I'm pretty sure the next question is yours. :)

OK, here's an awkward question worded with awkward words:
On one episode Batman returns to the Batcave from the scene of the crime to analyze some evidence. Batman asks Alfred a rhetorical question about his activities that night. Alfred makes the suggestion that the Riddler might be involved...but ultimately, he isn't. Which episode is this from, and what villain is behind the plot?

Does Borg have any I don't that are correct? If so, then he can go ahead and post the next question if he would like.

Darn those ISCs! :p
Alrighty, thanks for the props, so here it goes! I don't know if this'll be hard or no, but I've already got a hint lined up, just in case.
What is the CC-100?

Shot in the dark....
Isn't that the destrucive prototype weapon seen in Off Balance? The one that Vertigo stole from the hands of public officials and that Batman was sent to retrieve, only to run into Talia.
Again, complete guess.

Hmmm...that's a pretty complete list. There are some dead nameless guys in HOLIDAY KNIGHTS and JOKER'S MILLIONS, if you're counting.
Are we including the three animated movies, too? If so, we have:
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
-Chuckie Sol
-Buzz Bronski
-Salvatore Valestra
-Carl Beaumont
-Artie Reeves (actually, he died in a comic-book follow-up, if that counts)
Batman & Mr. Freeze: Sub-Zero
-the entire submarine crew
-Dr. Gregory Belson
Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker
-Bonk
-The Joker, twice, kinda
For a show that doesn't let people die, we sure saw a lot of death now, didn't we?
