My response is usually that i like the plots and the well thought out story....has any1 else had this problem?

I had it a few times. It's always in good fun though, cause my buds are all dorks. I know some were just intrigued on why I was...oh....a bit obsessed as the say, about it. But, I have other friends, like Carnage...actually the only one, lol, who likes the same kind of thing, comics and cartoons, though even he would probably say I'm obsessed, lol. I'm 18, only 2 years behind you, and I of course, think there is nothing wrong with you liking Batman, I think it's awesome. Most of the people who really seem to enjoy Batman are in their 20s it seems, heck, all the peeps at the comic stores I go to are that age, at another one they're like in their 30s or 40s. Everyone gets heat about something or other, whether it's comics, cartoons, video games, reading, etc., but as long as their are other peeps who like it as much as you do, then who cares about the others that don't?

Yeah I (At 19) have also noticed the trend that people into comics and stuff seem to be close in age to the 20s. I mean when I was 11 people my age were buying comics with me. I guess nobody filled in that next generation... or maybe the young kids just go to comic shops at special times that I dont know about...

But anyways, everyone has thier little things. I dont get much heat from my friends, but my family tends to be weird about it from time to time. There are worse things to be obsessed with than superheroes though. Much worse things.

Surprisingly, I don't get dissed for liking Batman at my age - 22. (Oh, the duality gimmick lives on!) This is provided that I don't admit to having any feelings whatsoever towards BATMAN & ROBIN, though.

I hang out with an "artsy" crowd - not the stuck-up type, just the open-minded type - and most of them are either film or creative writing students. They all love the dark, dreary stuff, and many of them share at least a passing interest in Batman, be it the comics, old series, animated series, movies, or whatever.

I think I'm lucky to have it this good.

Though if anyone ever saw my room, I bet you'd think I'm just some big child. Hehe.

It's weird - I do get the odd comment about how I'm "too old for Batman" (not the irony right there), yet no one says anything about my interest in Spider-Man as well. I wonder why Spider-Man is "safe", yet Batman is seen as mor eof a juvenile thing. Odd. But I don't really get raged on. Only a couple times in high school when I wore a Batman shirt to school and a friend made the comment.

But not recently. Up here at Uni, I got a wide variety of friends who aren't as buttoned down and constricted as my pals are at home. More open minded and they enjoy the individual quirks that we have. I'm not really sure if we're an "artsy" crowd, but we are intelligent... :)

Nah, I've never been hassled... in fact, most people I know like B:TAS, even if they don't watch it regularly. There really are people who don't freak out over animation, trust me!

"Aren't you a little old for that?" - My grandpa last Christmas after I showed him my book Batman: Animated that I had just gotten.

Oh yeah, and that's just from my grandpa. My friends all make fun of me 24/7 for liking Batman. I'm on two sports teams (football and lacrosse) so they give me a hard time in the lockeroom for it. It can be tough, but hey, life is tough.

My parents used to give me hell about collecting comics when I was in my late teens - I think they felt I was going to be some outcast of society for the rest of my life if I continued to read them. Then I got a girlfriend who didn't mind that I read them, and that kind of shut them up. Then, eventually, my g/f started collecting them as well. That really surprised them. Now they're completely comfortable with it, and in fact support it, buying us comics and toys for Christmas again!

I'm 40 years old. I have been into Batman since I was a child. (probably around March 66 if memory serves)

I don't live with my parents. I'm not a virgin. I've been married to the most beautiful woman in the world for the last 14 years. Our dog's name is ACE. We have 2 cats: Strat & Puddin'.

I spent the last 20 years in the Navy. We'd pull into exotic foreign ports, and while my friends would be looking for the nearest bar; I'd be out hunting cool bootleg Batman toys & other treasures. (THEN I'd go to the bar!)

I've since retired and moved back to rural Pennsylvania. I have an entire room in my new house that has nothing but Batman, Guitars and my computer. People never tease me or make fun of my hobby/addiction. Mostly praise the pure sensory overload they get when walking into the room unprepared.

Friends and relatives help me out. They get me things at yard sales & flea markets, just in case I don't have one already.

My wife let me get a Batman tattoo for my mid-life crisis.
(WHOOPS! I mean my 40th birthday!)

It's possible to defy the stereotype put on us. No matter what our age.

if you'd like to take a look. They're from about 3 years ago at the old house. Things have grown since then.

Since wen are both of you married to my girlfriend? Sheesh! This is news to me! :)

Seriously though it is so cool, jimi5150, about that. I couldn't help but smile when I read your post. I hope I'll end up like that - with a room dedicated to the best hero this planet has ever seen. Very cool...:)

Here's a way to look at it:
Have you ever seen the Blind Melon video for "No Rain"? The bee girl is lonely and sad, searching the world for someone like her.
And, hey, at the end of the video, she finds others in bee costumes, and she is ecstatic.
So, what do we learn from this?
One day, everyone will "find their bees." Sometimes it just takes longer than expected. :)

When I was in my 20s I took some flak for being a Batman fan. As a teacher, my colleagues did not understand. But my students at the time thought it was pretty cool, and now that I'm 37 they still do.

I've learned not to worry about what people think, especially those whose opinions I don't respect in the first place.

Never been teased about it or anything. When someone asks me why I read comics, I give them my copy of WATCHMEN or FROM HELL, and they always come back with a new respect for them.

Wow Jimi, that is one impressive Batcave collection you have there. It sort of reminds me of my room, too; if I didn't have a bed in there it would be absolutely packed with Bat-stuff. :)

I get flack from my mom. Does that stop me nah. Batman is cool. Although trying to get my mother to equate the bat to the Beatles is kind of tough.

My best friend knows to not call me when anything batman is on. Now if I could only get mother to do the same i'd be all set. I tend to just let it roll off my back. There are alot of worse things I could be into.

Plus my uncle who is in his 50's watches Batman and JL so I figure it's in the genes to like cartoons, even at 26.

as a HUGE Green Hornet Fan (i own literally every poster, comic, card, clock, tshirt and even a green hornet mask that was put out by NOW comics) some of my friends see my stuff and occasionally ask why i like him so much

ive got some superman stuff too

ive never caught heat for liking comics -- actually when people see some of my stuff i usually find out THEY still collect comics too

everyone has a vice of some sort-- romance novels, mystery novels (most of which tend to be BAD) wrestling (which i watch some times myself) or things like that-- so if they give you guff for your love of a good animated adventure (especially something of the quality of Legacy or Apokolips NOW) then give them some guff for reading bad romance or mystery novels until they realize just how wrong it was for them to make fun of something as awesome as comics

The Green Hornet

also someone mentioned that they never see "middle" teenagers in comic stores-- and i have to agree

i see younger kids (8-13) come in to buy/play pokemon and magic and buy an occasional Xmen comic

i do think that somehow comics missed a generation of readers and im not QUITE sure how it happend (garbage like Red/Blue superman and the Clone saga perhaps?) but i am SURE it happened

its a shame really
