name of a show (man turns into robot)

Hi,

I've being trying to find out the name of a show I used to watch when I was younger. Late 90s I believe (although it could have been reruns)

All I have to go on is some plot points from what I believe was the first episode.

It takes place in the future. I recall a girl finding this guy, and him being passed out in the back of a space ship. They get attacked by the bad guys (giant robots), and the passed out guy in the back ejects himself out the airlock and becomes a giant robot himself (robotron-ish if my memory serves me).

I might be able to conjure up some more information if need be.

I would love to know what this show was and if anyone can pick up on whatever it is i'm talking about that would be great.

It sounds for some reason like Tekkaman Blade (aka Teknoman in the American release)

Aurgh, that's what I was thinking, but I didn't think the enemies could be called 'giant robots' so I didn't suggest it.

yeah clearly I had forgotten what the enemies looked like. BUt once I watch teh opening for it on youtube I realized that was it.
