The Hollywood Reporter says that Warner Bros.' "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" and New Line's "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" have blasted into the realm of the worldwide top 10 highest-grossing films in history.

"Potter" has become the second highest-grossing film with a worldwide gross of $941.7 million and counting, bumping 20th Century Fox's "Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace" ($925.5 million) into third place.

"Rings" has catapulted into the eighth spot with a worldwide boxoffice cume of $749.6 million. Expect that total to get higher when the speek peek of LOTR: The Two Towers comes into theatres on March 29th.

Fox and Paramount's "Titanic" remains the worldwide boxoffice champ with $1.83 billion worldwide.

Who says fantasy movies won't sell? I hope this inspires more. (Unless they're cheap knock-offs in the vein of Krull, in which case never mind.)

I never saw Harry Potter, but i had a chance to see Lord of the Rings, (LOTR is a very good movie)

I tip my hat to everyone involve in making these two movies. They deserve all the credit in the world.

That's so awesome!!! I'm glad LOTR and HP are really busting it out in the foreign lists. I know that LOTR has gotten recognized for awards here and there, but HP really hasn't, and there were a lot of awesome things going on with the movie. Glad it's getting recognized in something. I really need to go see it again, it's been like a month...it'll either be more 4...or maybe my 5 time, I can't remember. Need to see LOTR again too, can never get enough of Aragorn!

i don't think that it is a "fantasy" movie thats the problem. the problem is poor story and poor production value that leads to bad "fantasy" movies. LOTR and HP were done very well not because they were fantasy but because they were done well.
