Tonight at 10PM On Comedy Central We Have A Brand New South Park And This Is The Talkback About It. Normally I'd let other people make these (especially since the last one I made got merged with Mugen) but I have to be the one to make this one. Find out why...

SOUTH PARK EPISODE 180 TALKBACK!

SYNOPSIS: "Stan realizes he could lose Wendy if he doesn’t get on board with the latest fad to hit South Park Elementary. Cartman would rather kill himself than succumb. But, when Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman all realize that Butters is now more popular than they are, they have no choice but to give in to peer pressure."

This is a High School Musical parody! Something that only a few people (Mad TV and surprsingly My Gym Partner Is A Monkey) have tried aping on. I hope that this is one of those full out parodies and dosen't have some kind of weird twist to it since really this is one of those things that just need outright mocking from Matt and Trey since I don't think they'd want to spin it saying that they actually like HSM or anything like that.

Oh thank God. This may be parodying something current, but it sounds like at it's heart it'll be a good old-fashioned "kids being kids" type episode. And I'm looking forward to that.

At what? Suckage?

To be honest, I don't really know what to think of this episode based by the synopsis. It could be either really awesome as South Park usually has fairly good musical numbers or fall flat like most High School Musical parodies do.

I will give it props if it gives Cartman a song. He's good at those.

I'm hoping this drama with the new kid doesn't interfere with the awesome first act. I realize it's for the sake of parody, but I'd much rather focus on Stan, Cartman, Kyle, and Kenny. But still, I'm lovin' it so far. Hitting the nail on the head as far as the WTF-ness of those movies are.

I laughed when Cartman said he was going to kill himself after watching High School Musical (I've seen the first one.....while it's not great,I also didn't think it was THAT bad)...

...and also laughed alot at the new kid's musical-loving father, who kept slapping people for "disrespecting" him....

...and the ending, where all four of the boys are into HSM mode (and Kyle's without his hat),only to find the girls are now interested in basketball, since the new kid is...

All in all,a pretty good South Park episode...

Though I thought Chimpokomon was better.

Neo Ultra Mike

This IMHO seemed like a much more complete parody then... well anything they attempted in the last few episodes. Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull = Indiana Rape. Cloverfield = Giant Guiena Pig Monsters. And the 2008 Election Is... A Jewel Hiest. Some ideas worked better then others (though I think we all can agree on what didn't work) but none of them actually felt like Matt and Trey were there, actually knew what they were expierencing and actually gave an honest feedback about it. Okay yeah Kids aren't going around and singing and dancing everywhere but otherwise the HSM Franchise was parodied quite well: The movies and DVDs have been selling like hotcakes and all the kids know the songs and are now more interested in singing and dancing then they have been in ages. And being more of older tastes it's taken awhile for Kenny, Cartman, Kyle and Stan to actually find out and adapt. I really liked they're reactions to first hearing about and then seeing HSM and promosing themselves they weren't going to do it, and then breaking that in an attempt to be popular when the fad was over. Usually the boys are into fads that Matt and Trey personally dislike (Pokemon, Metrosexualness) but obviously this was one they wanted to do everything they could to avoid until they had to. From threathening Suicide, hanging out with lesser kids and being more seclusive then usual. Lots of good stuff. I also liked the Brytan subplot with the kid wanting to do Basketball but being forced to sing and dance (from what I heard of HSM the first movie did the reverse of that in a way with the guy wanting both but being told he coudln't sing and dance at first) from his jerkwad father who slapped everyone and the guy finally being punched. I was waiting for someone to do that and glad it was the son and mom who actually ended up shutting up the guy who found solace in basketball gaems having a form of that as well. Defintley a full on complete parody that was enjoyable. It probably dosen't have the same can stand the test of time value like "Breast Cancer Show Ever" but like "Chimpokmon" and "South Park Is Day" does a good job satrizing a current fad and actually showing the boys only submitting just to try and be popular. Glad they didn't have to go through with it long.

One of the best episodes of the season! HSM is really stupid. If this honestly what kids think is cool this day then we should all take Cartman's advice, heh. I loved that part and Craig still upset about Peru. Reminded me of that joke where Kyle was still upset about Indiana. I guess the kids at South Park can't let things go until after a while. An awesome ending to the episode with Kyle whipping out the jewfro and everyone just leaving to watch the kid play basketball. Oh and Stan talking over the credits. :D

Pretty fun episode.

My favorite lines were Craig's only line which was a great callback to his Pandemic unhappiness (although Im surprised he joined the fad.) But the best line was Butters happy about being a stand-in. That was typical Butters gold.

I wish they would have mention that HSM is not that original. There was a movie about 30 years called Grease that was about high school kids singing.

Grease was about hormones, though. This thing is more about peer pressure, friendship and romances that -at best- are sweet and innocent. At worst- Chad and supposed Condi-type (as described by the movie costumer in USA Today) who speak to each other no more than 5 minutes per movie, never kiss or sing together. Now that wouldn't be half bad if Chaddo didn't have a duet followed by a clothes swap with this guy in 2:

I'm surprised at how the episode managed to stay a parody while referencing the source work and not completely fall into the ripping it to shreds territory.

I liked the moments with the guys hanging out with some nobody because of their dwindling popularity. I never really thought they were that well liked, especially since Craig claimed in the last episode that the kids don't like being around them. Maybe it was just Stan trying to rationalize to the guys as an excuse to help him win Wendy back.

Oh yeah, the dancing father and his slap-happy attitude were great too.

Awesome parody episode(my most favorite:D),

As much as I hate that HSM garbage,it's good for Trey & Matt to do some HSM bashing to make it hilarious.

Highlights:
All the kids singing from HSM.
Wendy has a great singing voice:anime:.
Butters participating in the musical, your always awesome:).
Heidi's appearance(I like her whether she was a major jerk in the slumber party episode in "Margarin").
I love the new characters Brytan & Scott the diabetes kid(Scott's voice cracked me up:D).
Good to see Jason(kid in purple shirt)get a speaking role.
The boys' reaction to High School Musical.
Stan's jealousy over Brytan.
Craig still upset about the Peru part.
Jimmy's singing which he always makes me laugh:p.
Cartman hating HSM saying that he wants to kill himself:p.
Brytan's musical jerkoff father was hilarious slapping his wife & many people:D,but his bashing from Brytan/his wife was the best since Cartman's from Wendy:p.
Cartman ripping on Scott:D.
Return of the woodshop teacher(nice to bring back characters from the earlier seasons).
Brytan an awesome basketball player:eek:.
The four boys finally singing.
Kyle bees hatless,but needs a haircut:D.
Stan talking in the ending credits(his jealousy returns:p).

Overall, another awesome episode next to the previous episodes(except for that horrible crappy Indiana Jones fantasy rape episode).

He was continuing talking as the show blacked out and the credits started. Something along the lines of: "Wait! What? No! We just got good at this. Augh!" Was only a few seconds into the credits.

Not exact, but you get the idea. Was pretty funny.

I'm glad this wasn't a really direct parody, because I'm not at all familiar with the source material. I would've felt left out, just like the four kids did at the beginning of the episode. This episode successfully pulled off both mocking something in pop culture and keeping the characters and situations true to South Park -- a balance they haven't quite been able to strike for the past few years.

Again, the High School Musical franchise gets no hate from me. It's relatively wholesome fun for kids and families, which is rare these days. But of course I loved this episode. I don't hold this in high regards as the last school-centric plot ("Breast Cancer Ever") and I have little knowledge of the High School Musical trilogy, but the structure of it's parody is simple and entertaining; a parody without too much cynicism nor too little lack of it. Stan's not my favorite character, so I didn't feel too much plight between him and Brighton (and Wendy), but the boy tries. Brighton's father is a character in himself and remains the real gem of the episode; taking the tired ol' plot of the abusive, forceful father and turning him into a queer, slap-happy muse. He remains hilarious despite his questionable role, making it easier to absorb him and prevent this episode from turning into an unnecessary drama.

The ending, which I expected to just finish with the elementary kids having finished their HSM phase (and move onto greener pastures), turned me for a loop when they revealed the girls as merely Brighton devotees. Stan's noticeable frustration is appropriate.

If anything, I can get a kick out of it purely because it has some form of a musical genre and I never get tired of sing-a-longs, even if bubbly pop tunes aren't exactly my forte.

I dunno, this episode probably looked fine on paper, but their parodies of bad pop musical numbers weren't really any more tolerable than the bad pop musical numbers they were parodying.

Also I thought the effeminate musical-obsessed dad got old really quick.

It may be the subtle cynical tone sprinkled throughout or the South Park atmosphere surrounding it that prevented me from declaring it a complete sugar-infected story. But it's not something I'll passionately watch on a daily basis.

...Which is what made this episode signifigantly better than most recent season episodes!

I liked the episode best when it focused on the kids. The dad was good for a few gags, but did run a bit long. The opening musical number was the best, for the sheer absurdity of it. Then when Stan didn't sing, and angrilly told-off the background chorus that was forming for him. That bit really made my night...

I've seen High School Musical 2 and, much like Cartman, wanted to kill myself when I found out just how "cool" this thing was considered. Even more so when I found of HSM2 was the highest rating cable premiere of all time. And even MORE so when I found out there are a decent number of people my age that even like this crap.

The episode was fantastic. Anyone who has suffered through any of the High School Musicals should love this episode.

Highlights:
- The opening music number and how confused the boys were when it was happening
- The boys reaction upon seeing High School Musical ("This is cool?")
- When the kids were following Stan, snapping their fingers, in hopes he was going to break out into song
- Pretty much all the musical numbers
- The last music number when the boys finally broke down and gave into High School Musical, only to find out it wasn't popular anymore

No one is trying to reflect on past, present, and future generations and their transitions more than I as I get older but THAT, my friend, is blasphemy! :(

This episode was excellent South Park, and many people made a lot of very good points, although I think only 1 (maybe 2) mentioned the flipped parody of an abusive father. That was my favorite and most South Parkish part.

Super-hawt guys and pop music together apparently sell millions of dollars nowadays.

It feels like it started with Boy Bands, and then the desire for money made the group's grow larger. Nsync, New Kids, and Backstreet Boys formed their Justice Leagues, and these days there's need for the Justice League Unlimited.

Young kids need corn and music, though, so while I feel the same way the boys do about HSM, I don't think it's the childrens entertainment devil. I had Power Rangers and Animated Disney Movies growing up to get my corn and music.

Has anyone noticed (maybe someone has, I haven't been on these forums in a while) that the last few South Park episodes have not had any gross out or vulgar humor? They actually seem to be concentrating on the writing. Pretty much every episode in this half of the season has had good writing, very little filler, and none of the extreme things they are known for. I'm finding that I don't miss the gross humor, especially when it's replaced by solid writing.

It only shows that M-rated humor is not crucial to the show it is only a tool or incidental to the show. The show has so much more going on and going for it rather than M-rated humor/material.

Whereas compared to Drawn Together, M-rated trash material is all it has.
