Here's this weekend's top ten:

1 (+) The Fast and the Furious .... $41.6 million ($41.6 mill)

2 (+) Dr. Dolittle 2 .............. $26.7 million ($26.7 mill)

3 (1) Lara Croft: Tomb Raider ..... $20.2 million ($84.2 mill)

4 (2) Atlantis: The Lost Empire ... $13.2 million ($44.3 mill)

5 (3) Shrek ....................... $11.0 million ($215.8 mill)

6 (4) Swordfish ................... $ 7.7 million ($53.8 mill)

7 (5) Pearl Harbor ................ $ 7.0 million ($172.1 mill)

8 (8) Moulin Rouge ................ $ 3.8 million ($43.2 mill)

9 (6) Evolution ................... $ 3.6 million ($32.6 mill)

10 (7) The Animal .................. $ 3.0 million ($51.3 mill)

I was suprised to see The Fast & The Furious gross so much. I expected Dolittle2 to be #1 with about $35 mill, and Furious in a distant second with about $20 - 25 mill. This has been a suprising summer season so far...

Really? Huh. I would have also sworn that Dr. Dolittle would have done better as well.

And it looks like Tomb Raider is rapidly running out of gas. Atlantis didn't lose quite as much... it'll probably get within the general neighborhood of $100 mill when all is said and done. I wish it would have done better...

I'm betting RAIDER will end up with $125 - 40 mill in gross at the rate it's goeing. The large drop-off isn't unexpected, though. Shrek barely fell from last week's grossing. I wonder if it'll reach $300 mill.

i thought dolittle was good and that surprise me that fast and the furious got first. hey , is it just me or have their been a recent outbreak of high speed car chase movies since the year 2000. like in the mid 90s when their were all those natural disaster movies

Who is in Fast and Furious?

The movie I am looking forward to the most is Cats and Dogs. That might be the surprise of the summer. I saw an extended trailer for it on CN this morning and laughed so hard, harder than I have ever laughed at any trailer for any movie.

Since these movie reports have begun posting you guys seem to have constantly picked the wrong winners :)

I didn't go see The Fast & The Furious, Vin Diesel & Paul Walker star, because the movie theatre they currently having it play in is the historical one, which is neat a a part of history, is too small and has sub-par surround. Instead I finalyl whent and saw Atlantis.

What are people's bets for next week's top movie? Mine is AI (Not too hard), it would be hilarious if Pootie Tang came out tops though!

Yeah, this has been an unexpected summer. Everything has been going against the norm so far, but I'm sure somemopvies which are expected to be hits will still be. JURASSIC PARK 3, for example, will still open huge.

Fast & The Furious 2 is already in the works. The seeds for the sequel were planted in a short scene that takes place after the end credits.
